Website Upgrade from 7pm 4th May - Forum Offline |

Dear Members,
We will be making some significant changes to the FF website over the next two weeks.
The most obvious change that you will notice is our branding. We are finally switching over to a consistant design across all of our areas.
During the transition the FF site will be taken offline (from 7pm on the 4th May) for most of the night.
Once we switch over and go live, we may have some 'regular' features missing.... I'll address these duiring the days that follow switchover.
As usuall I'll try to do this through the night. As a guide - the dry run took me around 14 hours. This was primarily due to database changes.
I hope you like the changes. I am sure that I will still get a few moans/nags and not everything will be as smooth as it could be. We will have a thread in the forum for problem for any issues identified so please consider posting them on there as you discover them.

Hampshire fertility experts host free information seminar |

People in Hampshire seeking advice on fertility treatment will be able to put their questions directly to the experts next month at a free fertility information seminar to be held at The Southampton Rose Bowl on April 13th. The free seminar sees local fertility experts from Wessex Fertility clinic team up with other professionals from Infertility Network UK and Windelsham Acupuncture to offer a rare opportunity to talk face-to-face outside of a formal consultation setting.
Dr Sue Ingamells, Consultant in Reproductive Medicine at Wessex Fertility said: The numbers of people seeking fertility treatment are on the increase, with enquiries up at our own clinic and national statistics from HFEA supporting this trend. Yet there are few places where people can go in person, outside of a formal consultation, to ask questions and sift through the bewildering array of information available. That is why we have teamed up with Infertility Network UK and others to create this information seminar, which we hope will help those considering treatment to allay any concerns and answer pertinent questions.â?
Clare Lewis-Jones, CEO of Infertility Network UK, added: There are so many questions to be asked when it comes to fertility treatment and what is right for each individual. Infertility Network UK was set up to provide support and empowerment for those facing that difficult fertility journey, through our online discussion forum, face-to-face events and information fact sheets amongst many other services. This fertility information seminar supports people in the Hampshire region considering treatment and we are pleased to be a part of this initiative from Wessex Fertility.

New information for fertility patients published |

 New data published by HFEA for the first time today will give fertility patients an in depth look at the likely success of their treatment.
Choose a Fertility Clinic, launched last year, gives patients a clinic by clinic breakdown of success rates. The new in depth analysis of national data being published today will give patients a nationwide picture covering thousands of treatment cycles and their outcomes.
Patients can now look in detail at information relevant to them: by age, whether it is IVF or ICSI, fresh or frozen embryos, or using their own or donor eggs. The information then covers the patient pathway from the beginning of treatment right through to the outcome including:
* of those who start treatment how many go on to have a baby
* the likelihood of becoming pregnant with a singleton or multiples
* what may happen to the pregnancy - singleton, multiple or pregnancy loss
* and the outcome for the babies born as a result of treatment including whether they are pre-term or low birth weight
Carried out by the Oxford based National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, the analysis looks at IVF and ICSI treatment cycles which took place in 2006. Over 13,000 babies were born that year as a result of fertility treatment, 61 per cent were singletons, 38 per cent were twins and one per cent were triplets or above.
Fertility treatment success rates for women 37 and younger are much higher than for women over 37, as are the multiple birth rates. The risk of losing one or both babies in multiple pregnancy is also much higher for older women.
Prof Lisa Jardine, Chair of the HFEA, said:
"No decision is more personal than a decision about your own fertility. We want to help people make their choices by making available as much evidence and analysis as we can provide. This new set of data adds a whole new dimension to what is available."
This new information complements the data already published on HFEA's Choose a Fertility Clinic site at: www.hfea.gov.uk/guide . As well as its usefulness for patients the data will also be a valuable source of information for fertility clinicians and researchers. |
