UK’s first fertility law firm |

 The UK’s first fertility law firm opens for business today. Founded by high profile fertility lawyer Natalie Gamble and fertility and parenting law specialist solicitor Louisa Ghevaert, Gamble and Ghevaert LLP will be the first niche firm of its kind in Britain.
“The law in this area is complex and much of it brand new” say Natalie and Louisa. “At the same time, there are growing numbers of parents starting their families in unusual ways, including families with more than two parents, same sex parents, children conceived using frozen embryos or donor gametes or the help of a surrogate. Parents and fertility patients need cutting edge legal advice to help them determine how the law affects their treatment and the status of their intended family.”
UK law on fertility has, of course, recently been completely overhauled by Parliament. Natalie, widely known as Britain’s leading fertility lawyer, was a prominent commentator on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 and is well known as a passionate champion of fertility patients and parents in alternative family structures. Louisa Ghevaert is an experienced family law litigator with a specialism in fertility and children law and a wealth of experience of dealing with complex parenting disputes, including same sex parenting disputes and international surrogacy.
“Our launch of Gamble and Ghevaert LLP is timely” say Natalie and Louisa. “The new parenthood rules have just come into force, and the rest of the Act is due to take effect later this year. It’s a time when patients and fertility parents need guidance on how the law affects them and what they need to do to secure the creation and protection of their much-wanted families.”
As part of the launch, Natalie and Louisa unveil the Gamble and Ghevaert website today (www.gambleandghevaert.com ). The first comprehensive resource of its kind, it contains a wide range of information about fertility and parenting law and looks sure to become a staple resource for patients and parents.

New HFEA website launched |

The new HFEA website launched on 15 April after a major redesign of the website’s visual style and an update of its content. This is the start of a series of improvements to come over the summer.
Feedback was gathered from a wide range of audiences via a survey and user testing with patients and clinic staff, interviews with other stakeholders and through workshops. This k proved invaluable in developing a website that meets the information needs of the various audiences who have an interest in the fertility sector and the work of the HFEA.
The improvements
The improvements include more detailed treatment information, which will support patients in making informed choices and give them a better understanding of their chances of success. These changes mean that patients will now have a clear picture of what their treatment journey will involve.
The website also features real life stories from people who have had, or are going through, fertility treatment and have shared their story. The website’s structure, navigation and search facility have been improved to make it easier to find information.
On the horizon
Further changes to the website will be introduced later in the year with the release of the new online HFEA Code of Practice (the guidance given to clinics about the proper conduct of HFEA-licensed activities) and an improved ‘Find a Clinic’ based on the outcomes of the recent HFEA information consultation.

Internet Support and Coping with Infertility |

My name is Sumaira and I am a PhD research student at the Institute of Work, Health and Organisations, University of Nottingham. As part of my doctoral research I am conducting a study to explore the impact that online support groups have on the infertility experiences of individuals using online resources to cope with infertility.
Participants will be required to complete two online questionnaires about their use of online support and psychological well-being on two separate occasions. You will also be invited to take part in an e-mail interview exploring the role of online support groups in coping with infertility.
