Judicial Review between the HFEA and Mr Taranissi
Thursday, 28 June 2007

HFEA STATEMENT

HFEA Logo"The HFEA has today informed the High Court that it accepts that the statement on which it applied for warrants to search the ARGC and RGI clinics on the 15th January 2007 was not legally water tight, because it did not give a complete picture of the regulatory history.  It follows that the warrants were unlawfully obtained and the Authority has consented to the quashing of the warrants. Mr Justice Holman had already found in the permission hearing for the judicial review, that the purpose of the HFEA’s actions was not improper.

"We would wish to stress that the HFEA acted in good faith, and on advice. Our aim is to  protect patient safety and ensure patient choice and we regret any distress that may have been caused to Mr Taranissi’s patients."

"We wish to reassure members of the public that events today in no way affect the process of the upcoming HFEA Licence Committee which will be considering whether licences for the ARGC and RGI  should be renewed or granted respectively in the light of various alleged breaches including the serious allegation of the treatment of patients at the RGI without a licence."

Introducing FertilityFriends.co.uk Limited
Tuesday, 05 June 2007

The FertilityFriends.co.uk team are proud to announce the founding of FertilityFriends.co.uk Limited, the new non profit entity created specifically to promote and develop the Fertilityfriends.co.uk infertility and fertility support organisation.

FertilityFriends.co.uk was registered as a non profit company(Reg No. 06266781) on June 1st 2007.

Tony Reid, the co-founder of FertilityFriends.co.uk and newly appointed Chair said

"Over the last 5 and a half years FertilityFriends.co.uk has seen significant growth, on average serving in excess of 10 million hits per month. But we would not be in a position today to celebrate if it was not for our wonderful team of volunteers and their unstoppable dedication."

Until today, the FertilityFriends.co.uk community has not been represented by a dedicated legal entity.  With this transition, the FertilityFriends.co.uk community has solidified the team’s commitment to continuously provide free support, without the perceived risks of corporate influence.

During the transition period, several business structures were evaluated and ultimately a company limited by guarantee was selected as an appropriate model for a non-profit organisation, maintaining our eligibility to apply for charitable status at a later date if necessary.

Joanne Coombe Vice Chair said - "this is a great step forward for Fertility Friends and members can be rest assured that we will continue to provide our support services free of charge; the transition to the new business structure includes the preservation of our core values, the first of which reads "Fertility Friends will always be free at the point of need!".
