Patient Support and Information Group

CHIPS were formed in 1999 and are a Self-funding support group run by volunteers.

The CHIPS organisation covers the Brentwood, Havering and Barking and Redbridge Health authority areas.  Our members are from all areas that range from Southend to Barking.  We currently have over 230 couples who are members of Chips and this number is growing all the time.

Primarily CHIPS is a patient support group, providing an informal forum where people with similar problems can meet, chat and learn.  Where infertility can be a very sensitive issue, and most people find it almost impossible to discuss their emotions and problems with friends and family, we offer couples a chance to meet up and discuss their issues and experiences with others.  We also organise talks on different subjects and treatments on infertility matters. This has helped many people over the last few years and we have had many success stories with new babies. 

In addition to this, we are constantly trying to address the problems with under funding from the NHS for infertility treatment.  Through constant liaising with our local MP's and local Health authority we have improved the range of treatment that people have received and are now trying to lower the waiting lists. 

Throughout the year our group works very hard with many fundraising events such as discos, quiz's and sponsored cycle rides etc.  The money we raise from these events is all used to run the group and help fund peoples infertility treatment.  Over the past 4 to 5 years  we have helped several couples with funding for their treatment.

Our Goals
Provide support and advise on infertility treatments.
Advise on alternative medicines.
We raise money for members treatment through various social events such as quiz's, bowling and disco's etc.
Campaign to improve funding for infertility treatment.
Work with the local health authority and MPs to improve the services provided.
All our meetings are attended by Mr Sathanandan (clinical director of gynaecology) and sister Ann White to answer any questions.

Achievements

Various Parliament debates to increase funding.
Increased the number of Cycles of treatments of Clomid.
Obtained extra fertility nurse at Harold Wood hospital.
