Adoption leave rights
Sunday, 17 October 2004

Leave entitlement is the same as maternity leave (please see the maternity FAQ's section for more information). However for the purposes of adoption the leave, this can be taken by either partner, with the other partner getting the equivalent of paternity/maternity support leave. If your employer offers enhanced maternity leave rights, then you will also be entitled to these when taking adoption leave.

Employers are not legally obliged to give time off to attend training or social worker visits, nor for the days when you will be meeting your prospective children. Some employers may offer this as part of their policies but you should check your organisations policies.
