Some tips on changing your baby's nappies:
You will need:
A changing mat or a soft towel will do. Bowl of warm water for cleaning baby's bot, a majority of mums use baby wipes these days, water is more appropriate for a newborn as there skin is so sensitive. Nappies, you can get nappies that are made just for girls and just for boys but most pf them are unisex. Terry's are unisex of course. Cotton wool balls Bowl of cooled water to wipe around what is left of your baby's cord.
Make sure you have all that you will need before starting to change your baby. Place baby on the changing mat/towel - never leave your baby unatended (not even for a second). When taking baby's nappy off - it makes sense to wipe your baby's bottom when removing it to wipe away any excess faecal matter from your baby's bottom. Clean your baby with either the water or wipes, whichever you have decided to use. When cleaning girls ALWAYS wipe from front to back to prevent spreading any germs to the vaginal area. Wipe baby dry with a clean soft towel. Apply cream to prevent nappy rash. Now pop on baby's clean nappy (not too tightly- you should be able to fit your finger between the waist band and baby's tummy).
Above is a basic overview of how to change your baby's nappy, dont forget that these are guidelines only and everybody does something different and you will get advice from friends and relatives.
