Hi

I live in Hove and am single and contemplating IUI or IVF at either the Agora or any other clinic, I guess the Esperance is the next closest.  I am not really sure how to choose etc, how do you know which is better for you, do they both take private single women? I would also require sperm donor, is one better than the other for this,
Any help is much appreciated,

Hi Jah,

Im a Esperance girl and we commute from Portsmouth as there the nearest clinic to us that had no wait for sperm...

We looked at the Agora but they had a wait for sperm.. cant remember how long but i know it was long enough to put us off.. both the Esperance and the Agora treat single ladies.

Quick update on me... after a second failed IUI was feeling pretty rubbish TBH and wanted to push ahead with IVF, spoke to the Esperance who said I had to do a 3rd IUI before they referred me for IVF. They said I always responded well so there was no reason not to have another go and after a month off I'll be starting again next week (depending on the  ) so just waiting at the mo.........

Hi Shemonkey,

First scan is on Tuesday at 10.30am... we're very excited!! Take my last day of clomid tomorrow.

Do you know if they let you do IUI back to back or do you have to take a break after each cycle? I dont want any breaks i want to go at it hammer and tongs for 3 cycles then stop for a bit (need to save up again lol)

I had to have a break in between each cycle  but then I'm fully medicated, not sure about clomid. Here's  ing you won't need to worry about that, keep positive

hey all,

Sorry not been on , but as you will see things have been quite hard and I find it hard to talk to anyone when I'm struggling.

Wedding and honeymoon were fantastic thanks Shemonkeyand went straight back into treatment the day we flew back - icsi cycle is on a flare cycle or short protocol - therefore I needed to be seen on day 2 or 3 of my period.  Bloomin marvelous timing eh - while we were on honeymoon still!!

Anyway after 1 day down regging - I started my stimming - double dose this time - puregon and menopur - my tummy is a pin cushion!!  Had a total of 3 scans last week and news not good.  Monday only 2 folicles.  Completely gutted - Mr chui said wouldn't do icsi so if nothing more happened then would need to change to iui.  Scan wednesday slightly better in as much as  more v small follicles had grown.  Surprisingly Mr chui put the ball in our court!!

The 2 bigger follicles had grown to a good size but the little were quite small.  He said up to us to decide if we wanted to go for icsi or iui.  He doesn't normally go for icsi with only 2 but as DH had a vasectomy reversal and his sperm count was only 8.5 million last time, and motility not great, the chances of iui working for us are very small.  On the other hand icsi is very expensive even more so than ivf and chance that we could end up with no eggs fertilizing.  Nurses told us to go for a coffee and decide - what a hideous deciion to make.  The other factors they told us was that if we decided to go for icsi, then we would have 2 more doses of drugs to encourage the small folies to grow BUT that may make the big ones too big and unusable.  Other factor was that they told me my ovarian reserve is low so if we stopped and started again, I may be faced with the same thing as I had had a big dose of both the stimming drugs!!!


In the end we decided to go for it and see what happens - we are desparate for it to work but your life is in a limbo land while this treatment goes on so at least we will know one ay or another what will be.  Had yet another scan on Friday - amazingly the 2 big eggs were of good size and the 2 smaller ones had got to a size that they may get eggs out of them also there was another small one as well!!!  Huge huge relief and now face egg collection tomorrow.  Am hoping upon hope that we get 4 eggs - that would just be fantastic.

Am very nervous as to what the next couple of days will bring.  Got to be at Esperance tomorrow for half 7am and then having a general for egg collection.  Will post back when I can to let you know how it goes.

What a hideous decision to have to make, think you made the right one tho, the chances of IUI working are a lot lower and at least you'll know how many eggs you get and how many fertilise. Know what you mean about life being in limbo

Thanks Shemonkey.. we're debating on how to get there tomorrow.. not sure if to drive and risk hitting traffic at Chichester, Worthing, Brighton and poss Eastbourne... then need to find somewhere to park, getting the train or poss stay at a travel lodge tonight!!

What time do you have to be there? It's a long drive but then again not sure what the trains are like! Parking's not normally a problem but I know what you mean about traffic! I drive to Chichester a lot and it normally takes about an hour and a half to get back. Hmmm.......stay at a travel lodge I say  xx

appointment is 10.30am... We thought staying at the travel lodge but we'll prob be in the same position in a few days time again anyway so paying for a hotel 2 poss 3 times in one week seems a bit daft lol
