Hello ladies,

I've been lurking these boards for a while now but only registered today so this is my first post.

I've been ttc for 9 years, I've had 2 ectopic pregnancys (1 in each tube) I have had one tube removed due to emergency surgery. & 1 tube was saved but it was discovered last year that I have hydrosalpinx in it so it needs to come out.

I've been seeing a fertility specialist at my hospital for 5 years & only just been referred for Ivf after loosing 3 stone & getting my bmi below 30.

I was referred to Leeds seacroft 5 weeks ago,, I've not heard anything yet so just wondering what the timescale is like for an nhs patient?

Can't wait to get this process started. We have been trying for a baby for such a long time & believe me when i say I'm thoroughly fed up.

For those ladies who have been treated at Leeds on the nhs how long between being referred & starting your treatment?

Thanks & lots of love xxx

Hi ivfmamma

I too am at Seacroft.  I live in Bradford so was only given one go free on the NHS.
When I was referred, it was already known what was wrong me my, PCO, endrometriosis, eptopic, one tube etc.
I had different appointments prior to my nurse consultation which is the point at when they tell you that you can start, there were scans, meeting the consultant, testing sperm etc.  I got to my nurse consultation, was excited and then they found a fibroid and decided to do a hystroscopy to remove it which delayed treatment, but only a month or so.
You say you know you need your other tube removing.  I would say push to have this done as soon as you can, when I was going for the hystroscopy, they said they wanted to take both tubes as they were no good to me, big decision as no chance ever of a natural pregnancy but said they were of no use anyway.
Do you live in Leeds? you get three attempts there I think for free..My advice would be rather than them give you lot's of different apointments on different days, speak to them and ask if oyu can get some of the things all done on the same day.
Getting them to answer the phone on the main number is a nightmare and better to contact the nurses.
I spoke to my consultants PA often who was great at arranging things.

The very best of luck, I had a failed cycle this year and am about to start again this week, it is expensive but will be worht if if I get good news.

Hi jules,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I will push for the tube out. It's no use to me anyway so at my first appointment i will mention that I'd like it out sooner rather than later.

I'm not from Leeds I'm from Grimsby, so not sure how many attempts I'd get, my specialist told me 2 but I've heard if you have no Fallopian tubes you can push for 3 goes as you have no way of conceiving naturally (fertilty specialist at my hospital told me this, so i shall mention it at my consult)

All the best for your treatment xxx

Hi,

Ivfmamma, it might be worth posting on the tx at Seacroft thread, you may get more answers to your queries and more people in the same position as you.

Leeds is only one funded cycle but they also fund any FETs that come from this. I don't know many places apart from Barnsley in the Yorkshire area that fund more than one cycle. North Yorkshire don't fund any! It might be worth checking with your PCT.

It is quite some time since I was referred to Seacroft and have since moved clinics but the best bit of advice I would give is to keep calling them. I would call to try and get a cancellation at every stage, it can really speed things up. We also paid once to see our consultant privately during our NHS cycle as we could see him the following week.

Best of luck

Xxx

Hi thought I'd update, I've had my first consultation with mrs sharma 3 weeks ago, weve had all requested tests done over the last 3 weeks, just waiting to do husbands sperm test now.. I have my operation for tube removal in 4 weeks & then my last consultation with mrs sharma shortly after to pick up treatment plan & to have nurse consultation so things have moved fairly fast since I last posted.. Xx
