Hello Ladies, I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences having IVF at Seacroft -Leeds, and what is your thoughts about it, any advice welcome x
Hi, there's a Leeds thread on here where a bunch of ladies chat and share experiences, that might help you. We had a successful cycle at Seacroft last August and our DS was born in April. I couldn't fault them really, I was well looked after and the process was relatively efficient, even though I was between two hospitals (Bradford and Leeds). I worried that there communication between the two wouldn't be great (i had drugs and scans at Bradford but egg collection and transfer at Seacroft) but it was and everything went smoothly.
If you have any specific questions, I can try to help! Good luck.
Claudia
I had a first cycle with Leeds & then moved. Yes, I got a BFN but my OH really didn't take to our consultant! I opted for Leeds as geographically it was closest & I was a lot more naive at the start of this journey than I now am!
I moved & found myself somewhere which I've found to be much more 'forward thinking' and it's still an nhs based unit (nurture, Nottingham), but it's a research hospital so there are plenty of studies going on, that for me have proven to be useful.
My other comment would be that the egg collection experience at Leeds I found to be a little 'cattle market' like; insofar as there were women to each side of me & opposite me all coming round from the sedation at a similar time.
As I was paying privately (grrrr to living in York!!), I was lucky enough to see a consultant, and with the exception of one visit, saw the same consultant on every visit but know this isn't true of patients who have an NHS funded cycle.
That said, Leeds does get it's BFPs for some, and my main reason for leaving was OH's reluctance to cycle with them again.
Superdork- thanks ill have a look at that Leeds thread and see if i can get any more advice.
Helend- Me and DP are looking to go elsewhere for our next IVF cycle de to personal reasons at BRI Bradford. Its hard to decide where to go and how are we are willing to travel as Leeds is the next closest. Its such a hard descion , but thanks for the information x
Claudia
I am from Bradford but have not had any of my appts there. You don't have to and can do it all at Leeds, even this go I would imagine.
I take it your next go you will have to pay? Leeds have come on in some of the things they do so it is improving, they do seem to be having good results for the younger ladies.
Quite a few people once they are paying move clinics to care Sheffield or Manchester and say they have a more personal experience and are more forward thinking
I go to Leeds and have had 5 goes, I see the same consultant who can take some getting used to but we now get along well
Go and have a chat with them and see what you think, they can be cheaper than some others
Hi Jules- i spoke to my doctor and she said me and DP can go to what clinics we want to go to which is good, seeing as we are paying for it. We would love to go to Manchester or Sheffield seeing as they are the top ones in West Yorkshire. But its just the travelling , its just hard to weigh everything up and trying to make the right choice.
Hopefull ill be with BRI in Bradford until the end of december and then a new start in the new year with a new hospital.
Beckalouise- Thanks, I tried looking up Calderdale online but its very limited, i dont suppose you know a good website.
Ive still a few months to decide until the new year but me and Dp cant wait to start again with a fresh start x
Umm pretty sure I once viewed all their policies and treatment costs on the Calderdale & Huddersfild NHS Trust website. They will also be a contact number on there, maybe you could phone and ask them to send you some information? I work at the hospital so never did much research just felt comfortable there 😀
Hi Claudia
I know what you are saying about the travelling but in some ways, I don't think, particularly Sheffield would take if any time much longer.
Depending on the time or day you go to seacroft from Leeds, it can take quite a while to get into Leeds, on the ring road and up to seacroft, I think I could get to Sheffield in the same time.
Being a private patient, all your scans, appointments will be early in the morning, if you take the appt around 8 traffics not as bad to get there and has calmed down by time you set off home.
Even though you're paying, on you'd appt days, sometimes you are still sat waiting quite a while.
Now I have got to know the unit so well, pushed for the things I want etc, I get on well with Leeds, thd nurses are nice too.
If it's just normal ivf you need, no real extras, give Leeds a go, then if you need to, look to care etc x
I had two appointments at Care Manchester before my NHS funding came through and I have to say, I felt like a bit of a number. I didn't feel that way at BRI. Care would also have had me waste several thousand on failed IUIs because I was told an NHS lap and dye was an invasive waste of time. It wasn't - it found I had two blocked tubes.
where ever we decide we still would have to travel that early anyway, whether it would be Leeds or Calderdale. I dont really know much about Calderdale and what facilities they have on offer. But I know Leeds have good treatments available.
Sarahsuperdork- So did you have your tubes removed? I had my last treatment at BRI and wasnt happy there, hense thats why Me and DP are wanting somewhere else. I have had both of my tubes removed since they were severley damaged.
Might be worth me calling Calerdale to see what they have on offer.
I had one tube removed; the other had no hydro so they said it wasn't posing a problem and the blockage wasn't as severe. Care told me not to go for it (the NHS had already booked me in) and I'm so glad I did because IUI would never have worked.
I bet that was the best descion you had made. Personally I had to have mine removed and know that it was the best outcome. I feel like Leeds has far more to offer us than Calderdale but I havent really looked into them.
Even if the worst comes to it and i couldnt produce my own eggs, I would definatley want to consider egg donation but thats something to think about a long way down the line.
I wish you lots of luck. Leeds now use an embryoscope to select the best quality embryo for transfer now at an additional cost, which I know a few people have found worthwhile.
Hi Sarah, thanks for your advice anyway. Yeah I know Leeds to that new timelapse like manchester does, and that would definatley be something worth considering. We arent starting IVF until next year so at least we have this time to really think through are descion. xxx
