Daxcat - I am so sorry about your risk result - but it is a risk at this stage, not an absolute. It is your decision whether to have the CVS. Perhaps a genetic counsellor can help you decide.

Downs is trisomy 21, Edwards is trisomy 18, Patau's syndrome is trisomy 13. Trisomy means 3 copies of the chromosome instead of the normal 2.

When I was pregnant with my first baby it was very small for dates (over a week behind IVF dates) and they suggested when I miscarried that it probably had a chromosomal anomally. Unfortunately the hospital never gave me the results of the tests carried out on the fetus, despite being chased. My Down's screening risk came back 1:1600 and they did not give me a risk for Edwards at all - so who knows what the problem was? These tests do not pick up everything and there are many possible chromosome problems.

So that you can find out for sure one way or another what is going on with your little baby, I personally would have the test done. I hope on hope that you are in the 74/75 who have a normal baby.
Edwards syndrome is a devastating condition and I personally would want to know so I could make a choice on whether to continue with the pregnancy.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Kandykane - Yes we'll probably have snow all winter.  I live just on the east side of the Rocky Mountains and we get what they call "Chinooks" which are warm winds which come from the west coast and float right over the Rockies onto us, so we'll have a lot of warm days throughout the winter and that will often melt the snow as well, but it doesn't last long.

I'm trying to decide on the 12 week scan myself, coming up fast.  I've always said that since I am low risk for Downs as it is, that I don't want to get that screening because it wouldn't change anything, and I'm too scared of false positives and needless worry.  But I'm on some meds for other conditions which have a tiny risk of affecting limb development and size etc.  So I hope to ask for an anatomy scan without the Chromosomal screenings.  Maybe they won't do that til 18 weeks, don't know.  There's so much to discuss when I see the OBGYN on the 24th.

I'll likely have a repeat C-section as well.  I just don't think I have it in me to have a VBAC, feel safer going with what I know, and really want to avoid another emergency C-section.  Hard to imagine the recovery with a toddler at home too though.

Good Morning Ladies,

Hazel - Where would we be without you? Your advice and knowledge is amazing,  ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^

Daxcat _ I have to agree with Hazel, In my opinion I would advise to get the testing done and am sure like Hazel says that you will be the 75%  ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^

Caz - Try not to worry sweetie, I still have a bruise on my tum thats the size on the moon, I did bleed with it or coincidentally at the same time as it appeared and all was well, it did scare the life out of me when the drs seemed to make a fuss, bubba is still quite small and th ^idiot^e full picture cannot always be seem clearly over your tum at this stage (I had to have a scan Vaginally as they told me I had a empty sac, but Bud is fine) Good on your DH for taking such good Care of you and your doggies for looking after their mummy, I thinking of you  ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^

Kandy - I have a Boxer Dog, He's 4 and is still like a Puppy, Boxers never grow up, Theyre fantastic pets, had a funny moment yesterday, Ds is still poorly and he was sitting on my knee and Wilfred (the boxer named after the actor who played Steptoe, he reminds me of my grandad and I love the name) he put his head on his arm as if to say, I don't like it when your poorly, i want to play with his big puppy eyes! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mandy - When I had my 20 week scan with DS, they checked for everything, limbs, neck, tum, kidneys etc etc etc,

AFM - I went to help DH in the shop last night, he had a delivery arrive quite late which should have been there early afternoon, so MIl came and sat with Ds and DFS, DH was so possesive, don't lift that it's heavy, be careful, let me do that! nothing was heavy at all, not to me anyway, so that felt lovely.  Ds is still really poorly, I slept on the couch with him last night, he is still fast asleep now  ^hugme^ ^hugme^
I feel huge this morning!
I had a chat with DFS when he got in from School, I told him that I couldn't carry on like this anymore, did he think it was time to call it a day, all I want is for the best for him, but our home is so unhappy at the moment and not a nice place to live, he agreed, I made a list of what we would like him to do it amounts to 6 things, I told him how I felt and he said how he feels, I have left it with him to decide I don't want him to stay if he's unhappy! It seems so much calmer now. I'm seeing his therapist this morning for advice.

Hope you all have a lovely morning

Love and kind wishes

Mandy xxxx  ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^ ^hugme^

Hi Ladies,

Oh Camilla, I'm so sad for you. Like Nattee said, I just wish we could make it better. I hope today goes smoothly and you get your scar fixed and feel strong enough to try again. We're all thinking of you honey.  ^hugme^

Daxcat, good luck with your consultant apt today. I hope it helps you to make a decision and again, we're all thinking about you  ^hugme^

Caz, hope you're still taking it nice and easy. I agree that it's still early for a strong HB and like you have heard of lots of ladies bleeding from haematomas which have not affected pregnancy, other than the worry caused! Relax and let yourself be looked after and your next scan'll be here before you know it.

Nattee, how're you this morning? So glad you got the good doctor and now have easy access to him again if need be. I don't know how you cope! I'm struggling as it is and nowhere near as bad as you! Hope today's a good day  :)

Yaya, I'm with you, the constant nausea is so debilitating! I keep thinking it can't last much longer, hopefully in another couple of weeks it'll start to ease. Or like LizE said, it can go even earlier than that. Fingers crossed!

MJP, so glad you're feeling more relaxed about family. Sounds like you're doing a fantastic job with DFS, I'm so impressed.

H2H, hope you're ok

AFM, got an appt for my dating scan and 1st midwife appt on 8th december! Can't wait! I'll be almost 13 weeks by then so they're cutting a bit fine for nuchal translucency but I think it's fine as long as it's before 13 weeks. Further good news is I'm off work today and tomorrow, so relieved to have a break.

Hope everyone else is ok  ^Cuddle^

Morning ladies!

Kerrie - hope you didn't mind me asking about all your scans. Sorry to hear about your lost twin. It all sounds very traumatic. I hope things settle down for you from now on. I'm well thanks.

Moving ahead - v normal to be anxious before scan. I was way more worried ahead of 7 wk scan than I was for test at end of 2WW I'd say. Had nightmares before both too. Hope it goes well for you today.

Daxcat - sorry to read about your difficult choices to be made on the basis of statistics. I guess the decision to do the test does depend on what the possible outcomes might be and what route each of those would lead you to take. I do hope that you have a communicative consultant and get the councilling that you need prior to making this decision. Praying it all goes well for you today.

Caz - take care of yourself. Not long now till your scan.

Kandy - thanks for dress ideas. I realised I had a dress of that sort of design I bought last winter. It might just do, but not sure there'll be enough fabric in a month. Still, it'd be a better investment than buying a specific maternity dress if I can find one with more fabric. I'm in SW London. No fog today, but very dreary grey.  I can't believe your hospitals' attitude 'you've had your share of scans'!! What about your share of anxiety getting to this stage?! I take it your IVF was NHS?  I know some Health Authorities don't do a 12 week scan at all and do a joint one at 16/18 weeks, but really, what an incensitive thing to say to you.

Glamis and Larenhall thanks also for dress ideas. Asos is a good site. I find it quite hard to shop online, but I guess if they do free returns.... lauren, I hope you find a party to buy the dress for!

Carole - my 12ish wk scan is also on 8th Dec. We keep coinciding.

AFM: really excited - going shopping today for maternity clothes. Haven't been clothes shopping for about 9 months - musn't go mad, but do hope to bring some bags home.

Have great days and successful appointments to those with important ones today.

LizEx

mjp1977 i had viganal scan which she did twice due to not been able to get a clear picture on the laptop type scanner but the nurse's main concern was that it was'nt an ectopic pregnancy to start with so she was happy with that, that was at 11.30 and she said te big scanner was in use but i we went back at 1 then she would be able to scan with that and get a better and clearer picture which she did, my mind was put at ease when we saw hb but then she said was hopeful that it would stay when everything comes away, bleeding is hardly anything at minute and gp assigned me off for at least next 2 weeks bleeding in pregnancy which excuse me from signing on at jobcentre.

Natmc - Sorry, just realised I didn't comment back about Jojo Maman Bebe. It sounded vaguely familiar, but is new to me, so really useful thank you. Having looked on line, I see their flagship store is just a few miles away from me in Kingston. Perfect! Will definitely go there to look for things soon.

Hi,  I've really been struggling to keep up with the forum so I'm afraid I've not been doing personals.  But Camilla I am thinking of you, this is a terrible situation for you.  I hope things go to plan today and that you have a quick physical recovery.

My parents are coming this weekend and we've invited DH's parents for dinner, they are seperated so they each don't actually know that the other has been invited.  Should be interesting! Anyway, we felt it was fairer to announce our pregnancy to everyone at once.  I'll be eleven weeks by then so almost out of the danger zone.
