however long update.
reading eggs/ezpress/mathseeds asper usual.
we have been to local meets. so zipwiring, collecting sticks to use az swords, messing about with friends, chatting, telling tales, socialising.
A has found an online game came roblox. which is minecraft meets weapons, vehicles and moving targets.
J has spoken to me about water still being water, even when its ice. water has 2 states. liquid and solid. but jts still water.  ot bad for  a nearly 5 yr old.
we have found traditional and not so traditjonal stories on you tube for bedtime. then i found the boys re-enacting stories the next day. such as the 3 littlepigs. pretendi g to be the wolf and blowing houses in :-) . i dont promote violence, i think its a boy thing!
J dropping out he wants a birthday party at home. 3 weeks notice. hmmmm.
J starting to write random letters down  because he can. he wrote wolf the other day and cat.  i havent sat there and practised any of these letters, think its reading eggs.
He wrote 6 6 12. he said at the same time 6 add 6 makes 12. just forgot the symbols. but thats fine.
we played with moonsand yesterday and he cut his square shape sand into (as he told me) halves and then quarters.
so lots of number work going on, even when were not 'actively' learning.
we have alzo found sid the science kid episodes. for bedtime stories. so far we have learnt about healthy food groups, episode i want cake. weve learnt the dirt on dirt, A now wantz to get a tray of dirt with a magnifying glass and stick and study whats in dirt, we have learnt about force and what it does in superhero sid. we have learnt about pulleys in the episode the treehouse.
check jt out. its mDe by then jim henson family and the boys are fi ding it pretty cool atm.
i have bought more folderz for school yr sept 15-july 16. amazing really. their current folders are crammed! my dad thorouvgly inspected their work a couple of weeks ago and had to admit they are very probably learning much more than they woukd in school. his other daughter is a primary school TA and even stepmum said her daughter would say kids are better off at home. they were very worried and judgemental at the start  ut i think their fears have been allayed somewhat now.
so we will be winding down soon or maybe not actually. i always found that kids found it hard to concentrate for the first week after 6 weekz hols so i may reduce reading eggs etc down to twice a week throughout 6 wks but not stop it completely. im not sure they like havi g a routine but i do.
think for this week thats it. so all updated ready for the new week!
be back soon!

lots of reading eggs mathseeds. kids are whipping through the quizzes now 😊
3 meet ups so far this week.
going to a local garden centre today to watch a free falconry display.
yesterday was nature studies at the library in conjunction with market hall. kids got to plant lettuce plants and take them home for free. played on a bouncy castle provided by local  council for free.
meet up on thursday so lots of kids having fun.
lotz of you tubing and roblox. A asked me what xo real prisons look like so i found images on the internet for him. might go on you tube for a virtual tour of alcatraz.
lots of questions, most of them answered. thinking of getting some lining paper and a sponge. painting a thinking wall and sticking it up. then giving out post it notes and a pen. that way if they think of a question i cant answer right now, stick it on the wall anx we'll come back to it when we have more time.
time- su h a valuable commodity lol.
we went to a ball park with a school mum friend and she cant believe how much A has changed.  of  ourse i dont see it but she assures me he has.
i know hes more engaged now. in some wayz J is relapsing  ut in others he k kws way too much lol.
it is fabulous watching natural lear ning taking place.
and wat hing structured as well. that light bulb moment when they get it .
theyre still enjoying sid the science kid as well.
they had a honey bee educatjonal experience monday. massive nest in my holly tree. found the number of a local beekeeper and he brought a sket round and we wat hed how he shook the branch to try Nd get queen in the sket. they went back to the tree. so he returned and repeated process. in his beekeeper suit . we stayed in the safety of our home anx watched thru the window. next morning most were in the sket so he wrapped it up and took it in his car. however, some wouldnt get in the sket and they havent moved on or died and the nest looks to  e getting bigger. guess i'll be ringing beekeeper again soon.

been to see the falcons and owls harris hawk and american eagle.  beautiful birds of prey.
J has learnt how to degrease anx wash frying pans. how to clean the cooker top. the difference between knife and knives. he helped peel potatoes and slice them ready for dinner.
cut rectangkes up and made them into 2 squares.
about to watch the towering inferno.
loving educating without trying too hard.
A happy on the pc and spending time with his dad.

interesting conversation with eldest. he was moani g about kids being home and nkt at school. so i asked him what did s hool teach you that is relevant to your everyday life. he thought for a while and said food tech. he works in a cafe. and he said socialisation. so i said ok and how many of those school year or class peers do you actually socialise with now? he said 2. so i said  there was only 2 others in your year??? he said no  ourse not . so i said and how many older/younger people do you socialise with either at work or otherwise and he said loads. so i said were they at your school in the same year. he said no. so i said my point is school is forced association not socialisation  socialisation doesnt come down to being placed in the same age group, socialisation iz open to all ages from all backgrounds. he shut up 😆
    think i won that one

so need to get this down.
today has been very productive. Daddy was round so i put him to good use. had the kids whilst i took my eldest for his 2nd blood test as his first showed high numbers for his liver. whatever that means. then took my mum to hospital for bloods. then pick XDH up took him to the drs. while my mum had the kids.

round to kwik fit to get my tyre repaired. then home. did reading eggs/express/mathseeds with the kids. then looked outside and XDH was mowing the front lawn. J went out and started sweeping up hedge cuttings. i went out with scissors to trim the borders. A stayed on pc.  daddy asked J why we put everything in the composter and was most surprised when J told him why. said i learnt that from sid the science kid.

swimming lesson, A no longer needs hjs armbands!!! YAY! J can now swim on his back properly with armbands. its finally started to click for J.  we ate inside Mcdonalds for a change and the kids behaved fabulously. Lots and lots of conversation. very different from 8-9 months ago.

back home, J,  myself and XDH tackled the back garden. mowed, pruned, cut brambles back . J using shears responsibly and supervised at all times.  then he found cordless drill. so daddy found a wooden board as J wanted to make holes. very good hole maker actually.

Just wanted to note down what an absolutely cracking day we have had.  The kids learning gardening and having fun with it.
the local group that im with are looking around for an allotment that we can all use as a HE community. i personally cant wait to learn from the more experienced members and wat h my kids produce their own food.

Now A is really settled at home, he is speaking more and more about school.  sometimes not nice stuff and sometimes just a comment of how much he likes being at home and how school isnt for him. hes also asking for me to help him spell words and sits and make addition questions up.
    finally i think hes relaxing.
    so far loving this journey

While we were doing the garden A was playing in the garden bouncing on trampoline or on the swing. dont think hes into the gardening thing. whereas J loves helping and being so indispensible.
but both are extremely lovely kids (yes im biased) and im so blessed their mine and i get to share this journey.

    Thank you Mierrien

This week J found a magnetic driver with like an aerial in it. so we loosely experimented with it. is the fridge magnetic yes, clothes horse yes, fireguard yes. thenwe got a tub of coins. we found that 1,2,5,10 are all magnetic. except 10p's dated 2011 and later. 10p's before 2010 an up to 2010 are magnetic. 20 p and 50p are not.
J has helped tremendously in the garden this week. he can now shear safely, sweep up hedve  clippings.he told his dad how a composter workz thanks to sid the science kid. considef yourself told.
we have been to our local meet up. lots of fun times.
J helped put  a gazebo up yesterday. We got the paddling pool out and i like to have a gazebo over the paddling pool. my kids are allergic to sunblock and it worries me if theyre in the water with the sun beating down.
Lots of pool time. i bought a big pool so i coukd go in as well. he brouggt hjs wrestlers down and 1 stands bolt upright in the water. 1 sinks and 1 floats on its back.  but if you bend his legs he floats face down. cool experiments without experimenting.
A has been qujte reclusive this week. just wanted the pc and quiet times. We did get to go to the park the other evening where A met 2 of his ex school mates. he raan away at first but when i introduced a football, they all played together for a good half hour.
we have got 2 mini torches so when we go to bed weve been putting the torch close to the wall to see how small the light is. then we slowly run it across the walls and ceiling and the light gets bigger. kids were amazed. good fun at bedtime. we have had a fan going as its so hot and they have found that if they talk into the fan it makez their voices almost mettalic/robotty. both kids growling " I am Ironman" into it. so funny.
an old friend popped round yesterday (think it was to grill me on HE) so i gave her the leaflet thT says it doesnt have to be a classroom. no set hours. dont have to sti k to national curriculum etc. then I passed ber a thick green folder that is rammed. she then said this is what both have done and her eyes widened when i said  o thats just A's, J's is over there and as thick. she had to agree that realistically they are learning far more at home than they would at school.
even setting up gazebo is an education in itself 😂
so thats my weekly check in.
    just living, loving, learning

    A's questions today.
are flying squirrels real? after seeing them on my little pony. we googled and yes they are, they are in north and south america.
how long do tortoises live for? we googled and its a long time. domestic tortoises live for 50 yrz so we decided maybe not a good idea to get one.
when was the last time a do-do was seen alive? good old google. they originatex from mauritius on the edge of madagascar and some remains were found in 1595 and the last sighting of a live one was 1662.

yesterday, A made a chart after watching sid the science kids the sticker chart episode. this is the first time he has wanted and put pen to paper without coercion since he left school. so proud of him. J after doing reading eggs got a felt tip and wrote we on the tabke. small e not capital for a change. hates using paper. its my table fridge or windowz.

he is loving cooking and  now learing to use the zlow cooker.

    is HE really this easy????

    J is now 5!
had a very excited day yesterday. a fair few presents. party today. he got loads of gardening stuff and a greenhouse from gma. my mum git him seeds planters trowels and forks ready for their gardening project. we got him (and  A token presents) rocket blasters that reinforces our lear ing from when we mDe water rocket blasterz, same principle. space hoppers, massive bottle of bubbles (carpet will get a good clean 😁 magnetic art tiles, as he likes art tiling. xbox games. and of course the biggie skylanders start up pack.
we had a meet up thiz week. love the summer .onths. meet e ery wk. but now 6 wks are very cloze we have decided to open ojr houses up in rotation as none of our kids will cope with the bustle of schoolies e erywhere.
we were at pets at home yday fkr a rat workshop. i am terrified of rats, but look after eldest rat. never hold it though. i managed to hold their rats for about 10 secs then said "GET IT OFF ME!". it was headi g towards my boobs and i realised low cut top, it would be touching skin. proper freaked me out. managed to hold it asecond time but then J kept wafting a monkey nut in its face and it tried hiding in between my jkt and my armpit. again freaked me out. guess i wont ever hold columbus
    kids enjoyed it though.
our 8ft by 5ft pool arrived 2 days ago. rectangle shape Nd very deep. J is having a paddling pool party.  o partg gamez as i cant be bothered. so 3 friends round and splashing about sounds good to me.
cleaned the garden and the house. i knkw ppl say we come to see you and the kids, but underneath they judge the state of your house az well and with 2 kids at home it does get messy. very lived in. 😈😉
Eldest was 'teaching' them about fire and whT materials burn and whT doesnt. we had a bowl of water handy and it was outzide. A loved replicTi g torches in minecraft using a twig and toilet roll. they burnt tinfoil slightly. then plastic. i love they way plastic gets so hot it drips. then sweet wrapperz. alldone safely and responsibly.
    so a weird old day.
and no doubt today will be something else entirely 😃
    Lets see what it brings
