We came home after 4 nights. Sophie is so lovely and looks like daddy. Breast feeding has been hard as not enough yet so giving also formula. She drinking the formula too fast. Any advice on breast feeding? Was recommended herbal fenugreek and thistle.

Clarabelle. No one quite prepares you for how hard breastfeeding is at first.  The best things to help boost your supply are to have lots of skin to skin, keep putting her to the breast even if you feel she's no getting much she'll be prompting your body to increase supply plus it will comfort her, keep hydrated and as rested as is possible with a tiny one. Oats are supposed to be good too, I've eaten loads of flapjack using this as a reason!

Thanks Dory, i usually have her in a onesie so perhaps i need to strip her down more. Iam getting more milk as pumped but still not enough. I have trouble keeping her awake on breast, but with calma bottle she drinks too fast the formula.

Also confused if i should be using baby powder. It used to be used and now read it should be avoided as baby can breath in. X

Hi Clara , love the name you have chosen.Sophie is really pretty.

Regarding breastfeeding. Iíve only managed to express / breastfeed for three weeks tops as I let too many external distractions get to the situation. As Dory says it is really tough breast feeding or perhaps getting  established and nothing prepares you. Once you get that supply up between breast feed and pump it should all kick in. Just keep persevering a as long as you feel is right for you and try not to let any outside factors get between you and Sophie and pumping. Stripping down is a good idea, skin to skin helps for sure. I remember one tip from a lactation specialist that made sense and i hadn't heard before. That was, that every time you pump/breastfeed you put in an order for more for your supply and that half an hour after feeding is the best time to express as it is to do with catching  hormones for milk at their peak before they trough again

Personally, I donít like the idea of talcum powder for that reason . Go by your instinct though Clara

Hope everyone is ok and enjoying their precious bundles?

Jack has had his surgery and he and Jospehine are reunited again, waving around and eyeing each other up. It is cute to watch until Josephine gets over zealous and frightens her brother !  ;D

    X

    Hi everyone.

Just popping on to say my little man was born on the 23rd of Aug, he's 11 days old now and we are trying to find out feet as a family of 4. Big sister adores him and is a huge help. I am expressing and formula feeding him, having some effort trying to gain weight at the minute, so far he's only lost...
    His name is Dexter.

Good luck on your parenting journeys ladies.  It's one hell of a ride being a mummy but it's magic and worth it, even on the tough days.

Congratulations lollipops, Dexter is a lovely name, hope he's gained at his next weigh in, both of mine lost a fair bit of weight early on and took a while to gain xx
