Children After A Stem Cell Transplant?
« on: 30/12/05, 17:26 »

Has anyone out there conceived after having treatment for cancer, specifically a stem cell transplant and much chemo & radiotherapy? (Was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in it's advanced stages)

I've been in remission for 3 years now, and have just been told by my specialist that my ovaries appear to be working again, for the time being...

We were just about to proceed with donor eggs, but will find out what our new options are (if any) when we see our specialist again in a couple of weeks time.

Would very much like to hear from anyone who has a similar experience..

Thank you.  :)

    ^hello^ StarGazer,

I have no advice to offer you but i am sure that you ovaries working is a good sign so ^fingerscrossed^ for you and your future. My DH was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma nearly two years ago now. He had lots and lots of chemo and a full months worth of radio. However, we are going for adoption now due to a fatal genetic problem we carry. However, i have gone off the point a little. I just wanted to send you lots and lots of best wishes  ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ ^reiki^ and luck for the new year. May it be the year that your wishes come true.  ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^ ^fairydust^

    Lots of love

    Hi there!

Have poted you a longer reply on the intro board...

I am 9 years in remission following NHL (stage 3/4 when diagnosed) and much chemo followed by a stem cell transplant.  I am now 30 weeks pregnant with twins following my 2nd IVF using donor eggs!

Can't believe your ovaries work!!!  Best of luck with everything & don't forget the ED option is still available should you need it!

    Hi Stargazer,

I was diagnosed with Hodkin's Lymphoma in 2006 when I was 25 and continued to have treatment for 3 years due to poor response. In all I had 6 different types of chemo, radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant! After all this I was left infertile and menopausal. Prior to my treatment starting I was given the chance to store some embryos with my husband (then my boyfriend). We managed to store 7 embryos. However, I was really worried that this would come to nothing due to me being menoausal, but doctors do magical things and I'm now on my dreaded 2ww with 2 snowbabies on board!!! I have no hope of gaining the use of my ovaries again, they seem to have shrivelled away, but we're optomistic that we're going to succeed with FET.

I know this post is old, so I hope things are still looking up for you.
