Immune Issues??
« on: 7/02/04, 10:57 »
Hello,

I'm new to this topic I would like your advice ???. I had a missed m/c 3 weeks ago. Saw my gynea yesterday for a check up. No test where done on the fetal tissues after the D&C he said often there is no apparent reason for the m/c. Anyway he thinks I lost the baby because I have severe endometriosis and adenomyosis which caused immune issues and there is nothing that can be done.

I know that baby aspirin/heparin helps with some immune issues but I was already taking this because of a blood clotting disorder (factor Leiden). Does anyone know what other immune issues there are? And what are the treatments?I recall reading an article a couple of weeks ago about a woman who miscarried 19 times and them she was given somedrugs/treatment before she conceived and in early pregnancy and she carried the baby to term. I can't remember where I read it though. If any of you know about this article can you please let me know where I can find it?

    Hi sushi,
So very sorry to hear of your M/C. I have just had a whole bank of blood tests...12 in all...which were sent to the states to be analysed. Horribly expensive, but it has shown that my particular immune problem is with a thing called TNF. My clinic gave me a web site to look at which has lots of info on immune issues, www.repro-med.net. It explains all the different sorts and catagorizes them into how difficult they are to deal with. Unfortunately I am a catagory 5!!!.
The most important thing would be to go to your specialist and ask for these tests before you waste any more time, money and emotion on IVF cycles which may fail again. Hopefully if they can find out what your problem is they can give the apprpriate medication. I do wish you all the luck in the world.

    Hi Sushi,

You might want to look at this web site:

    http://repro-med.net/about/biobeer.php

Apparently, there are all sorts of treatment with excellent results (>70% pregnancy rates). I've just had some tests at over 800.00, they are expensive as two have to be analysed in Chicago (patent thing!!!) - I'm waiting for the results now. I would definately speak to your doc about getting these tests done - unfortunately, they are only done privately.

Let me know how you get on.

    Good luck!

    Crystal, Flick,

thanks for your replies. I have printed a lot of stuff from this board and various other sites on immune issues and want to do some reading before I speak to my dr.  :)I feel more positive today and think that at least we are producing good quality embrios, though not many - never more thatn 2 or 3, and I now know I can get pregnant, so I should feel fortunate. Immune issues are probably easier to treat than problems with eggs/sperm.

    Best wishes,

    Sushi

    Hi Crystal,
I've just had the same tests at ARGC (800 was a bit of a shock!) for Category 5 problems? I'm awaiting the results. Dr Beer's clinic got in touch & asked that I have the MTFHR test aswell, which I had done at my local DRs. It's delayed my results & I'm desperate to find out if there's anything wrong. I live in Devon so I'm hoping to have a telephone consultation with Dr Beer. This is very expensive but hopefully will sort some of my problems!
    Good luck with your results

    Hi Nicola,

Snap! did you have loads of blood taken? I wasn't told what category of problems they were testing me for - it seemed like a long list on the blood consent form.

By the way, what is MTFHR and when are your results due? Mine are due in a weeks time. If nothing is wrong, I can go straight onto IVF - this is what I am hoping. Are you having treatment at the ARGC?

    Good luck with your results.

Hi Girls I have just started my treatment for catagory 5 immune problems and tnf. I had to start on Humira injections...not at all cheap at 400 per shot...gulp!!! And a bit like heparin...they do sting when you administer them! I suppose the good news for us is that if this is our problem, then we may, on the right medication, be able to get preggie without IVF?!
I was told I would need to get the jabs in London, but I checked with my local independant pharmacy and they were a little cheaper, so if anyone else is prescribed this pls do check with local places!
Good luck with all your results Flick x  :-*

     :o

    Hi Flick

I was shocked to hear how much the jabs are costing you.  How regularly do you need these and do you take them during your treatment cycles as well??  This must be getting horribly expensive for you.

    Love

    Vic

    Hi Vic,
Yep they are hideously expensive aren't they!?!! I only have to do one every 2 weeks but even so! I could be on them for quite some time. There is a possibility of getting pregnant naturally, but i will also do IVF if it is a good cycle as I want to be on these for the shortest time possible, both from the cost and my health reasons. If we are lucky and get preggie I will need to take them until a heart beat  is seen! Best work and get some serious money in!
    Cheers f x ::)

    Hi Crystal and Flick,

I had a phone consultation with Dr Beer last night & got my test results. I have a high level of NK cells - 22% & v low serotonin levels (I get migraines all the time) & a problem with MTHRF gene! All very complicated.
Dr Beer  said I should take Humira, celexane & Folgard & baby asprin. I have never had any fertility treatment (been trying for 4+ years) because I was convinced my problem was implantation and not the first bit.

My problem now is the drugs. I've tried every natural alternative but obviously didn't know the extent of my problems. I've never taken any medication in my life.

Also, last night, I was up until midnight looking for info on Humira on the internet. I found a group of girls on the Yahoo site who aren't happy with Dr Beer and his methods & now I'm totally confused. Are there any success stories with this treatment?

I woke this morning feeling happier than I've felt for ages. I've been so depressed since Christmas (which Dr Beer says is probably the low serotonin levels aswell). At least there is a problem to solve now rather than being in the dark all the time.

I'm just worried about these bad comments about his clinic. Any positive thoughts? I have found an excellent alternative site in US - acupuncture & herbs for fertility concentrating on immune problems. I'm going to look at that today.

Anyway, sorry this is so. Thanks for reading.
    Nicola
