Endo/IVF poor responders - any success?
« on: 3/05/04, 03:53 »
Hi there,

I've just been reading the thread 'Endo/IVF - any success stories' and was so encouraged to see that there are success stories out there. ;D
What I'm wondering is what stim drugs and doses were successful for those with endo who were 'poor responders'?
I recently had my first try at IVF and had no response after 5 days on 225 units of Gonal F per day (I was on a short 'flare' protocol). The specialist abandoned the cycle straightaway.... :'(
I'm wondering whether there's any point in me pushing for another try??.... ???
My specialist says I didn't respond because the endo has 'buggered' my ovaries (his phrase!) - has anyone else been told this? I'm 37 and I'm not prepared to give up yet!!!!
By the way - I've just been reading a fantastic book about endo and nutrition - and I totally recommend it - it's called 'Endometriosis - A key to healing through nutrition', and it's by Dian Shepperson Mills and Michael Vernon. I've learnt heaps and I've started my new diet already.....

Thanks everyone for this excellent site.....

Cheers

Alice    ;)

    Hi Alice,

I also have endo but have no tubes so my only way is IVF, I started a short cycle in the middle of March but unfortunately had a neg test result two week's ago.  I was started on 225 Gonal F per day and my left ovary started to respond quite well but my right not so good (I was told by my consultant that my right may not function properly) but all I needed was one working ovary.

They increased my dosage up to 300 units for about 4 day's to help me along and this certainly did the trick.  Please don't give up it might even be worth getting a second opinion.

    Good luck....

    Take care

    Hi Tammy

Sorry to hear about your neg cycle.....

Thanks for the info - I thought that my left ovary would be the good one too (I had a large endometrioma removed from my right ovary last year), so was very surprised when it didn't respond at all. I've been looking at a US site about high FSH, and have been very surprised about the amounts of drugs they are given during IVF, so I'm very tempted to try again - if the clinic will let me of course. The trouble is that here in NZ the maximum dose is 300, and I was pretty close to that with my 225 - but hearing that your increase of dosage made a difference is very encouraging.

    It's all such a minefield, isn't it?!

Are you going to try again?

    Good luck

    Alice

    Hi Alice,

This website is fantastic it's certainly lifted my spirits as there are success stories and it makes you feel better knowing that it does work.

I'm going back to see my consultant at the end of May for a review and to discuss where me and DH go from here.  We both really want to try again so I'm hoping fingers crossed that I will be able to start June/July time.

Please let me know how you get on and good luck.

    Take care
    Tammy

    Hello,

Both my tubes are completely blocked by endo and have had two unsucessful IVF attempts so far.  Had my last two frozen eggs replaced on Friday so fingers crossed for 14th.

    Hi girls

I just want to say please dont give up hope, i have severe endo and now have no tubes but we got a positive on our 3rd IVF (well FET) and now have Jessica.

I was seen at Barts but was under Satha at Harold wood for my infertility and privately before my NHS go came up i was under Mr Haloob at the Nuffield, both are good consulatants and both get good results, i think Satha's results are a little higher than Haloob's but nether the less they are both good.

I want to wish you all the luck in the world - hang in there girls your dreams will ocme true.

    Hi Jenny,

I'm currently under Mr Haloob I was referred to him by my original consultant Miss Rao, but I've heard good results from both consultants.  I can only hope and pray that us ladies all get our dream come true.

Are you going to the meet on the 15th?

    Take care

    Love
    Tammy
