Olwen - Im not surprised you're    Hope beginning of September soon comes round for you im sure it will as the weeks are flying.

Mrs M - Glad you feel a bit better.  Have you got hold of the midwife yet.

Moosedog - Have a fab week in Wales.  The weather is supposed to be nice over the next few days at least.

Bluebell - we had our nuchal scan privately but my midwife did the triple test for me.  Have you had that?

Lisa - I think I can feel kicks too but her feet are south at the mo.  Hope she turns as she's been that way for a couple of weeks.  Lovely feeling though.  DH can't feel her yet and he so so desperate too 

Julesliz - M&P do a pramette which is a travel system, a carry cot and pushchair.  We had a demo on it y'day and was impressed with it.  Think we've made our mind up now

Not posted for a while but have been an avid reader! 

Julesliz ... I had to smile when I read you post about the travel system or cot thing because I had the exact same concern. My M&D came down to visit (a v. rare occurrence as they live along way away) and announced they wanted to but one for us. We went to M&P and looked at both systems and opted albeit rather rushedly (is that a word?!?) into the freestyler travel system. I then had nights worrying as I too had read about that newborns have to layflat... ANYWAY ... decided to go back to M&P on my own this time and discuss my mini crisis. The sales assistant was so helpful and assured me that either was fine. The recommendation is that newborns should not be in a car seat for more than 2-3hrs and also that newborns should indeed lie flat but that means at no more than a 30 degree angle it does not have to be flat flat like we are thinking . The freestyler & others that M&P sell have multi back positions and the most reclined setting is less than 30 degrees. She said the difference between that and the pramette is that you can have the baby facing you or facing outward in 'flat' mode but with the travel systems they would always face outwards but you can see them through the plastic viewing window thingy! So I stuck with the travel system as she assured me either was fine. Hope that has helped clarify things a little for you. I should, like you, have posted when I had my concerns.

Olwen, sorry to hear you're feeling blue although not really surprising I think we'd all feel down in the circumstances. Hope you feel a bit better soon and can find lots to do until your DH returns to help make the time fly for you too.

Louise, your DH must be so frustrated at not being able to feel your baby. I do think its hard for our partners to connect with the pregnancy as its not so immediate for them.

Afternoon Girls,

Olwen, I was about 15+ weeks when I first felt the little bubbles type feelings, but this is my third baby so you can feel it sooner.  Something to do with previous stretching etc.

Steph, I'm with you on the belly bar front.  Was determined to keep mine in at all costs, but my belly button has come right out and the top bit had started rubbing and getting really sore.  Finally gave in last night and took it out.  Have also got a small tattoo on my belly so will be interested to see how that stretches and if it goes back ok.

Just been to pics with kids to watch Charlie and the Chocolate factory, feeling really stuffed with popcorn.

Hello all
Went to a wedding on Saturday and got loads of attention (outfit really showed off the bump) and bum did not look too huge.  Also spent quite a long time at 3 am this morning feeling the baby move - what a wriggler!  I thought I felt something a couple of weeks ago but definitely today it has been having a real stretch - didn't feel like popping either more moving things around!
I had a look at a moses basket on Saturday - it was very sturdy and on a rocker and I thought it was lovely.  Also really sure that I want a bugaboo frog (but very expensive) as we live on the coast and walk our dogs there every day but apparently a more expensive one is coming out in September and frog is being withdrawn so might have to buy it sooner than I would have liked.

I was getting ready and picking an outfit that shows my bump off to the max - like you do (or is that just me ) and DH said I was like a 13 year old girl who's boobs are starting to grow.  These men just don't seem to understand do they!!

Looks like it's going to be a beautful day, and I've got a day off work to go shopping in Bournemouth with my Mum.  She's been itching to buy baby stuff for years, so now finally, we are having a mother-daughter day out to get some outfits for the baby.  I think she's more excited than I am!!

Hopefully I'll get my bouncer and changing mat too today, few more bits to cross off the list.

Anyway, so it's a me me post - just popping in while I have my breakfast.

I'll catch up on personals later.

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a good weekend.  I survived my first dh-free night   Actually I got a friend to come and stay for a few days, so that has helped but it isnt the same....  Am dreding when she goes home on Thursday.  Am working on another friend to come after that.  In fact, might just put a "B & B" sign up outside to make sure I'll always have some company

Louise - I know September isnt TOO far away, but I have a feeling it will go so fast for everyone except me.... it seems like 10 years away

Caro - 

Lisa - how was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - am planning to go this week (but unlike you, dont have the excuse of having kids to take )

Kacey - hope your shopping trip was successful.  I had to go and buy a little outfit from Next yesterday for a friend's baby and the stuff there is so cute.  I came out and told my mum that even if we have a boy I'm going to have to buy some of the dresses that I'd seen   I guess we'll have the first cross-dressing baby

Well another week of 7am till 7pm don't think i can this much longer, never mind i am going to be a mummy 

Kim - i am also getting leg cramps and have been for last few weeks, don't get the all the time just every now and then, i jump out bed like a  and all my DH says is stand on a cold floor!!!!!!
Enjoy your shopping trip with your Mum.

Becky - Men eh your so right they just don't understand.

Piglett - yippee on your baby movements, now you really feel like your pregnant 

Steph & Lisa - I have also lost my much loved belly bar, i was determined not to take it out as didn't fancy pain thing again but it was starting to catch on all my clothes etc so i took mine out at 20 weeks  . I also have tattoo on stomach a piglet holding a little balloon but by the end of the pregnancy i think it will look like a piglet in a hot air balloon   

Olwen - I would be feeling blue as well if DH was away, just think next time he comes home you will be 4 more week nearer your little one arriving.

Claire - The whole pram thing is so confusing isn't it. We are going for M & P 3 in 1 system after changing our minds constantly.

Kim, I'm not so far along but have been getting cramps in my calf too. One of the great symptoms of pregnancy I guess. Have a great shopping day with your Mum.

Lisa, did you enjoy Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? We're going to see it after all its got Johnny Deep in it. Like Olwen on our own as all the kids we'd usually borrow to see a children's film are on holiday. Really looking forward to when Small will be old enough for such trips although that will be a couple of years.

Piglett, sounds like you had a great weekend. Its nice to go to a wedding and be able to enjoy it without getting annoyed by those awful "when will you have kids" questions.

Hiya

At least I'm not the only one who's had to take their belly button out!    Was really gutted coz it took the best part of a year to heal - mind you I've heard that once you've had bubs that you kinda see pain in a different light!    I was going to get a tattoo of my wedding ring around my belly button a couple of years ago but the thought of it   me - maybe after bubs is born I might get it done - it's a celtic band with an amythyst stone in the middle.  I thought that the stone part of the tattoo could be my belly button bar (if I get it done again he he).

Becky - DH loves any clothes that I wear that shows off my bump!  I do too - you just want everybody to know that you are pg - and not just fat!! he he    We went into Mothercare at the weekend & had major 'bump-envy'!  Everyone keeps saying 'your's will grow!' - but I'm getting really impatient now!!  It must be the only time in my life I've ever wanted a big belly!! he he  

Mum bought a Moses basket (on a rocker) at the weekend - we're not allowed to see it yet! Grrrrr he he.  It's quite funny coz my mum will just go out shopping and say 'oh I've bought you this' or 'I've bought you that' whereas MIL keeps saying 'what can I buy you?'    Mind you it's the same at Christmas - you have to give MIL a list or else she won't know what to buy, where as if you give my mum a list she'll say 'I'm not buying you that - it's boring' but then it's cool coz we don't know what we're getting.

Olwen - Hope you are holding up without DH - don't worry 3 weeks today it's bank holiday!!!! woo hoo!!!!   (it's also our 20 week scan the day after so I can't wait!!!)  Not only that but this time in 3 weeks I'll still be in bed!!!!!

Edna - I get cramp in my legs too, mainly when I'm in bed.  You can feel it coming on, so I usually just shoot my leg out quickly to stretch it out.

For those with leg cramps. if they are really bad your doc can prescribe some tablets that are safe to take, i tried to find the name of them but cant.

Kim - just noticed you have my due date as being the 7th of November, but it is actually the 5th - do you mind changing this?

Olwen - Greetings fellow London Girl! Cant beleive you are already in the 2nd tri! I hope the next couple of weeks go really quickly - Carlos will be back sooner than you know it!

Piglett - They are bringing out the Bugaboo Gecko in John Lewis in October and there is also the Bugaboo Chameleon which allows you to mix and max the pram with a different colour footmuff. I cannot remember the prices, but if you call John Lewis, they can send you a catalogue in the post. Prima Baby - September issue - comes with the John Lewis catalogue with details of both the above Bugaboos.

Kacey - You have been hit by the awful night cramps too?!! I get them very often, and sometimes they last for up to half an hour - just when you think it is over, the next wave of pain comes! Some people it is a lack of salt and calcium. Calcium, I dont think so as I drink so much milk almost 2 litres a day - Salt, possibly as I dont use salt at all and most of the food I eat is natural. I stretch my foot into a point and turn my foot around and around - helps a little bit! Cramps dont help with a good nights sleep at all - especially if you are working the next day!

Had a bit of a shock on Thursday, my dad has cancer and has been complaining about feeling really sick and was in so much pain - everyone thought it was the side effects of the new chemo. He went in and they did some x-rays and sonar's etc, and couldn't see what was wrong. They took him in for emergency surgery so they could see what was happening and they found his whole stomach cavity area filled with pus, basically he was infected and this bacteria was attacking him. They cleaned it up and took out his appendix. So, at the moment he is in ICU. My mom reckons they will take him off the ventilator in the next couple of days.
What makes it worse is that he is in South Africa - I am hoping he gets better, or else I will fly out there - at 28 weeks, it should still be safe.

Other than that, we finally put our pram together yesterday! We got the Jane Powertrack 360 Matrix travel system. I absolutely love it! The car seat goes from car seat to total lie flat, so you can stick it on the pushchair chassis as the car seat, or you can use it in the lie flat position - they give you a hood attachment and it then turns into a pram.

Morning ladies.  I'm just going off for a swim - its the only form of excerise I'm doing at the moment - for some reason even walking makes me quite out of breath and I'm not even half way yet!

Purpleal, what a shock for you about your dad, but at least they caught it now.  Hope he goes from strength to strength.

Cramps - my book suggests doing some calf stretching exercises before going to bed and, like tennis players, eat lots of bananas because they contain the right mix of minerals to stop cramp. Sadly I've gone right off bananas since I got pregnant....

Olwen, I really feel for you with your dh away but just think that you will really be showing by the time he comes home 

Becky - its true!  I wore a t-shirt from blooming marvelous saying mind the bump and was so proud!  (mind you, if I was a teenager with boobs it would have said mind the bumps!  )

Piglett, pleased the wedding went well.  We've got three in the next month so need to think about an outfit to maximise my bump, though at one my cousin who will be 8 months pregnant with twins will be there and I think she will win on the attention stakes!

I think I am sadder than anyone - I went to see charlie and the chocolate factory ON MY OWN yesterday.  DH didn't want to see it and friends were all busy.  I enjoyed it but it is very Tim Burton/Johnny Depp style and those of you who love the Gene wilder version may not like it as much.  Blob, on the other hand, had a whale of the time and wriggled all the way through it - strange huh?

Re: belly button bar

Hi all - Not been about for a long time, but been reading!

Just wanted to say to all those belly bar folks out there that you can get belly bar retainers! I had one fitted by a piercing place, costing £8 and it picked up radio 4 it was soooo rediculously long! Cant believe belly will ever get that big! I then bought 1 for £3.50 from an internet site. Will look it up and send it if anyone needs it- just EM me. This one is much better - clear, much shorter and no bother.

Oh if only that was all we had to worry about!

Choc - I bought a plastic retainer the other weekend & had it in for about a week, but my skin (between the top piercing & my belly button) was stretching in directions other than I expected.  I went a very pink colour & was sore to touch so I ended up taking that one out too.  Mine cost £4.99 - so I didn't lose too much money.

Purpleal - OMG!!  How scary for you.  Hope your dad gets better soon! 

Rachael md - You are so lucky feeling bubs moving around.  I keep waiting to feel something.  I may have felt movement already but I'm not sure - I can't wait for a definitive kick/punch so that I know exactly what I'm looking out for! he he  So many people have said 'it feels like this' or 'it feels like that' but until it happens to you you don't quite know.

It's such a lovely day today - too nice to be in work!!!  If there weren't so many people on holiday at the moment I might have considered being 'sick' for a week or so  he he.
