Hi ladies

Just wondered if anyone else has had problems eating in early pregnancy.

It's not always because I feel sick it's just all the time. I struggle even drinking water. I can't eat first this in the morning at all. :-\

I know everyone is different but how long did it last for you?

Thanks

Hi Vick, congratulations in your pregnancy but sorry you are not feeling so good.

I was the same from quite early on in pregnancy, I just had very little appetite. I'm 15 weeks now and it's a little better, I find I can tolerate things that previously made me feel sick. I am still having to eat little and often though, I certainly can't eat a "normal" sized meal! For some ladies they find it eases around the 12 week mark, for others it is an ongoing part of pregnancy that you just learn to live with.

My advice would be to eat what you fancy, when you feel like it. Have several smaller meals instead of the usual 3 bigger ones. And don't worry, the baby will take all the nutrients it needs - with my first, I barely kept anything down for the first trimester, lived on crisps and milkshakes, but incredibly he turned out perfectly healthy and is now a busy two year old.

Best of luck, I hope things improve soon and you have a healthy pregnancy  ^hugme^

Hi Vick,
Congratulations firstly!

I was the same at first.  A lot of it was because I was quite sick, but DH kept offering me food as well and I just didn't fancy any of it.  Everything tasted just Not Quite Right.    Even after the worst of my sickness was over I wasn't really interested in food - to the extent that I asked my midwife about it at my 15 week appointment.  She advised much the same as carrie lou - just anything you can, anything you actually want to eat.  I lived off Irn Bru & Bacon butties for a while.    I lost about a stone and a half during the first trimester.

Then, about a week after the midwife's appointment my appetite came back (luckily coincided with Christmas dinner).  And now I would be happy to eat all day every day!

I did much the same with DS1 and he is now a healthy two year old.

Good luck - hope you start getting some appetite back soon, but don't worry if you don't.

Hi Vick,

Congrats!  Sorry to hear you are suffering.  I am 20 weeks today and still being sick and have nausea.  Ask your GP for anti emetics usual one is cyclizine.  It is baby friendly.  I was hospitalized numerous times with hyperemesis, the extreme version of morning sickness, and sadly it will be something I have to deal with until 'cargo' is born.  I still don't have much appetite and loosing weight but 'cargo' is still getting enough goodness to be healthy and growing.

Nibble away all day and sips of whatever you fancy, anything is better than nothing.

Hopefully your GP/midwife will be able to help you soon.  Good luck. xxx
