Hello everyone

I'm new to the site but have been having a nose around and it looks like a great source of info. I'm wondering if anyone else is due to attend (or already has) the NNUH clinic. My DH and I have our first appt there in early Feb. I chose it cos it had the shortest waiting time and is nearest to home, but it seems like everyone else is going to KL so I'm now wondering if I've made a bad choice. Can anyone put my mind at ease?!

I'm 37 and ok as far as we know, DH is 41 and has been diagnosed with azoospermia so it looks as if we're heading towards IVF with donor sperm. This whole journey is pretty new to us so I intend to hang around here and pick your brains if no-one minds!

What is the JPH clinic at the NNUH? We attend King's Lynn Queen Elizabeth even though I live in Norwich, some of our appointments take place at Bowthorpe but some treatment cannot be carried out there so we've had to go to King's Lynn.

I'd be interested to hear more, in case I am missing out on better treatment in Norwich.

Hi Waby & Poppy2

After me & my DH were put forward for ivf treatment by our doctor, our first appt with Mr Greenwood was at NNUH but ever since we have had to travel to JPH which is a bit of a pain as it takes nearly an hour to get too and we only live in Bowthorpe which is only about 5mins from home. Later on in our treatment we will be going to Bourne Hall in Cambridge which i have heard is a reaaly lovley place.The NNUH is a little waiting room & can sometimes be really busy, i think we sat 20mins before a receptionist came to book us in but the JPH is really lovely (newly opened).

Poppy2, what hospital do you go to in Bowthorpe? We were never offered this choice  how far are you along with your treatment?

We had an appt today at JPH to sign consent forms & we are starting our meds 2 week of May, which i know is a while away but it gives us time to get prepared & for my body to relax.

Waby, no one ever mentioned to me about any treatment being carried out at the Norfolk and Norwich - I'd have jumped at that! Like Poppie I go to KL, only chose this instead of JPH as some appointments can be carried out at Bowthorpe and as I live in Norwich this was closest for me.  Where will your treatment be carried out?

Am very similar to you, we have an appointment later this month and hoping to find out then if my partners sperm is just blocked, otherwise going to be sperm donor for us as well.  All new to me too and so much to try and take in isn't there but am finding this site brilliant.

Sorry Carey, we posted around same time so didn't see your reply until I'd sent - good luck to you as well.

The appointments at Bowthorpe are at the medical centre near Roys - to be honest we've had our first 2 appointments there where they done a few tests and from now on we'll be going to Kings Lynn and then Bourn later.

Did you chose to start in May or is that the earliest date they gave you? I was really hoping things would get started before then but guess maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic xxx

I see you will be attending Bourn. Has KL referred you? You are the same age as me, I have also been trying to conceive for almost 2 years. I am on my 4th round of clomid as I have unexplained infertility. I am getting a little fed up with KL so have contacted Bourn and have a first appointment in March, although this will cost me as I won't have been referred by KL.

So can someone please give me more info on JPH, what does JPH stand for and have been moved from King's Lynn to JPH?

I really want to go there, it would be so much more convenient

Thanks for the good luck wishes, i hope your treatment goes well too.

We were given the choice of JPH or KL but were not told some of the KL appointments were at Bowthorpe as we may have considered KL. JPH seems to be really lovely & the staff are all really nice too. I hope you are finding KL just as good?

We didn't choose May but we said we didn't want to rush into treatment as i was wanting to lose a little bit of weight, but i have broken my ankle & am in plaster for 8 weeks so that is a no go at the mo  In someways i wish we weren't waiting until May but i believe things happen for a reason & Ive always been somebody who is always rushing about not having anytime to myself so maybe breaking my ankle was my body's way of saying it wants to be relaxed before treatment so I'm OK with May.

You will have to let us know what the consultant says when you go for your next apt, Maybe u will start you treatment before May.

Hi all, hope you're all well and enjoying the weekend.

Poppie - JPH stands for James Paget Hospital!

Sharon - We were offered (through nhs choose and book system) a choice of KL, JPH or NNUH, which I understand is an outreach clinic of JPH. Only really chose NNUH cos of shorter waiting time (7 wks from referral to appt) and as we live in Norwich it's obviously the closest. Was expecting to have to go to KL and am feeling a bit out on a limb cos everyone else seems to be going to KL and I don't know anyone who's had experience of NNUH. Am assuming we'll end up at Bourn for treatment though and hope so cos have heard only great things about them. We actually have an appt there next month for an initial consultation, made before nhs appt came through, cos I was expecting to have to wait ages for appt and the wait was freaking me out. Thought maybe we'd self fund one treatment whilst waiting for nhs funding but looks as if we hopefully won't have to now. 

Just can't wait for appt so I'll feel like things are finally starting to happen - been ttc for over 2 yrs and worry that time isn't on my side (I'm 37). Bah - why do we have to go through all this?

Poppie, KL/Bowthorpe have referred me to Bourn but I must admit I've had to chase them a few times, they didn't get my blood test results from the hospital (although had my partners) but after I chased they then got in touch with hospital and she called me back next day to say she'd received them and had faxed our forms to Bourn. We chose the transport option, to have as much treatment as we can at KL, then the rest at Bourn.  Its a shame things haven't been too good for you there, hopefully direct with Bourn will be better for you - pityy you have to pay though when it should be on NHS.

Carey, sorry to hear you've broken your ankle - hope its on the mend! I know what you mean about the weight thing, my BMI was close to 30 so I've been on slimming world for last couple of months (not good over Christmas!) but have managed to lose 13 lbs so far - you following any particular diet or just being sensible and healthy eating? Good luck   I wonder why they don't give everyone all the information, would make life a bit easier for us wouldn't it. Glad they are all nice at JPH, will see what they are like at KL on 24th.

Waby, thats good news you hopefully won't have to fund the treatment yourself now.  I've read a few on here who've gone to JPH so you're not alone   Tell me about it, I'm 38, will be 39 in March and realise time if slipping away so quickly!!  Why do things have to be so complicated and drawn out :-(

A big well done to you for lossing 13 lb, that great  Before breaking my ankle i was goignt o the gym every morning before work & managed to loss a little but now ive broke my ankle i cant go to the gym till March. Looks like it will just be healthy eating for the next few moths but that is proving hard as people keep bringing me get well chocolates

Thanks Carey, hope all them chocolates have gone or hidden in a cupbaord now   Well done on going to gym every morning (before breaking ankle), I'm not very good at motivating myself to exercise - but am trying!  Keep up with the healthy eating, everything helps   Will keep you posted on my appointment.

Hows everyone doing?

Well, had our appointment at Kings Lynn on Monday - 3 hours we were there!! Filled loads of forms in with doctor, then more forms with specialist nurse, had more blood tests, back to see nurse who talked us through procedures, etc and recommended seeing counsellor at Bourne.  Phoned them Wednesday and got an appointment for Friday - very impressed!

Ladies, Bourne truly is lovely, instantly relaxed us as we turned into the drive. Its so peaceful and beautiful - am bit gutted now that I've chosen to have everything I can at Kings Lynn - wish it was all being done at Bourne.

Have left message for specialist nurse so just waiting for her to call back and advise on date to start treatment .. hope its not too long!

Glad your apt went ok on Monday.... It took us nearly 3 hours filling in all the forms & talking about treatment too 
We were offered the option to see the counsellor at Bourne too but we havent yet taken up the offer as yet but think we may closer to our treatment date.

Is great to hear you thought Bourne was a lovely place, i cant wait to go, i was thinking of taking a drive one Sunday just to take a little look, someone also told me that they are having an open day in March so may go visit then.

I had my Fsh blood test done on the 20th Jan but havent as yet got the results back, wish they would hurry up.......  I may give them another call this afternoon.

Hope you find out your treatment date soon & it isnt much of a wait, do let us know...
