Hi Omnom and Cris :)

I'm 11 weeks today and my due date is March 14th. Feeling a bit nervous joining this thread before my NHS scan! My scan is on Friday so not too long to wait now.

I've had 2 private scans at 7 weeks and 9+1.

We have a 19 month old and I carried him but we used my partner's egg. This pregnancy is from my own egg but the same sperm donor.

Omnom - hoping I'm back on here on Friday afternoon/evening with good news. Feels so close but far away at the same time, think I'm getting more nervous as I get closer to that day. Thank you, yeah, it's lovely that it's possible to create a family that way. Looking forward to seeing what similarities they both have as we don't have any photos of the donor. Not silly at all to start applying Bio Oil, go for it! I started using the special pregnancy cocoa butter cream last time and Bio Oil. I used the cocoa butter from about 5 weeks I think, thought it was better to just start softening that area up early! I've been a bit rubbish with it this time but must get better because my belly already feels huge! I usually did cocoa butter in the morning because it wasn't too greasy and then did Bio Oil just before bed to give it time to soak in. Have you started to get a bump?

Cakebaby - I look forward to following your journey :) I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy and felt movement just before my 20 week scan, it was on and off and some days I didn't really feel anything at first but then it really started to increase. At my 9 week scan I noticed that the notes said anterior again, bit of a shame as I love feeling those movements! Wondering if it can change/move though as my friend's placenta was covering her cervix and they thought she may need a c-section but they checked again a few weeks later and it had moved!

Good luck with your scan today Evie!

I posted an update in the early pregnancy thread, but my scan on Friday went well. Baby was very wriggly and making it tricky to get measurements. Amazing to see how much they're moving around when you can't feel any of it!

Booked a gender scan for the end of the month, very excited! Have a big feeling that it's another boy after the huge bump that we saw between the legs at the scan, but lets see if we're right!

Omnom - I know, I keep thinking about the scan, can't wait to just know! 9 more days. I don't think my little boy has much of an idea about boys and girls yet. He has a lot of little friends of both genders and plays well with both. Hoping he's young enough not to care about it! He's 20 months now and has finally just started walking, so exciting! That good, I keep forgetting too! I took the Bio Oil away with me in the summer too and now I can't find it!! Just using the cocoa butter for now.

Look forward to hearing your gender update at the weekend!

Good to see you on here Claudia :) also looking forward to getting to know everyone and following the pregnancies.

Hope your scan went well Omnom!

When we found out my little boy's gender we just told people and showed them the photo where it said 'boy' on the scan. Decided to do something a little bit different this time. Have ordered confetti cannons (had to get pink and blue ones because obviously we don't know which one we need!) and will make a little video of us showering him with confetti. Hoping it's not too loud and doesn't scare him!

For family I'm making some little cakes the night before and after the scan going to come back and either put some pink or blue sweets inside. My work are doing the Macmillan coffee morning on the Monday so going to take some in for them too. So excited!!

Got an appointment with a consultant on Tuesday to talk about what happened at my last birth and to discuss an elective c-section, then got the midwife on Wednesday. Busy week with 3 baby appointments!

Lovely news :) a little boy! Did you have any guesses about the gender beforehand? Another good time that I found to shop during my first pregnancy was Black Friday. Amazon was especially good! I remember getting quite a few things from there and Mamas and Papas. Even shopped ahead and got a Jumperoo for much cheaper because we knew we'd want one anyway in a few months. If you can get yourself to a Baby Show (the big London and Birmingham ones) you'll get brilliant deals too. I'm going to the London one in October. A pregnancy pillow is fab, definitely get one! I got a huge one from Amazon.

Yes, ours is this Saturday, want the days to hurry up! We're having the same issue with family not being together so we're getting most of my side of the family on Saturday afternoon/evening then probably seeing some of my partner's family on the Sunday. People we can't see will hopefully get a lovely video of a confetti cannon going over our son!

Just a quick update as my consultant appointment was a bit crazy! They were running an hour behind so I was sat just waiting for ages, got called in to see a nurse and have blood pressure and pulse done and then it all just kicked off from there really. They said my pulse was 121 so then as soon as the consultant came in that's all he wanted to talk about. He checked my pulse himself and said it was too fast and then skipping beats. He rang labour ward and got me transferred up there because he wanted an anesthetist to check me.

Got hooked up to an ECG and had it checked. Seems ok and he said it might just be my normal but have to keep an eye on it. I had heart trouble during my last pregnancy too so I'm a bit worried that it's going to happen again. Been told that if I have palpitations again and can hear it in my ears then I have to go in and get checked. Ahhhh. He told me that it can cause trouble with blood pressure and stop baby getting oxygen so that has freaked me out now.

Hi Omnom, very quiet isn’t it! My laptop died a death earlier in the week so I’m using my phone but not as easy! Aww amazing that you can already see movements, that took longer to happen in my last pregnancy because the placenta was at the front and acting as a cushion. Been told that this time it’s at the back and I’m sure I can feel baby moving ❤ Hope your letter comes soon. Our scan was booked at the end of the 12 week one in front of us and she asked us about date and time preferences!

Yep, another boy for us! Evening out the genders in the house! Bet our son will love having a brother so close in age. Thanks, dunno what the deal is with my heart rate 🤷🏻‍♀️ Still over 100 lots of the time when I’m just sitting doing nothing.

Got my laptop back, woohoo! Something wrong with the RAM though so had to have one chip taken out, meaning that it's slower. I'll take that for now though rather than not having one at all! My uncle's ordered a new one for me and it's arrived so said I can go and see him to get it fitted. Gutted today because it's my day off, got myself and the little one sorted, coats and shoes on, strapped into the pram and then realised my partner took my car and my house keys are attached. Her house keys are left in the car. Means I'm stuck indoors all day, can't even do my walk to the supermarket to get us both some fresh air!!

Haha, it's lovely isn't it. Wow, can't believe your husband has felt it so early on, that's amazing. Mine are so on and off, most of the time I can't feel anything and then when I do I'm still questioning it! It's mostly when I'm relaxing on the sofa or laying in bed. Hope it actually is baby that I'm feeling! Yep, our bodies are doing all sorts of crazy things. At the moment I keep getting sharp pains in my bum muscles, a bit like I've pulled something. Getting uncomfortable to sleep already.

Yeah, we've said we'll aim to have one more and my partner wants to carry this time. She was always up and down about it but when I was about 14-15 weeks she said she's been thinking more about it and is pretty much 100% that she will try. I've got one embryo left so think she'll give that a try first and if it doesn't take then she has four frozen that she can try. She did say she only wants about 6 weeks maternity leave though and will give me the rest, more than happy to oblige!

Not completely sure if they'll monitor me more. The midwife said she'd like to see me again sooner than usual so is seeing me at 20 weeks rather than waiting until 24 I think it was. She's said she'll pretty much just do the vaccinations and that's it though, but it's a chance to speak to her about anything if I'm worried. Seeing her straight after my 20 week scan because they're in the same unit.

Sounds like you'll have a lovely day for your scan :) I get a bit nervous about it, of course, but the scan is so detailed and amazing. I remember them pointing out things like my son's nostrils last time! So interesting!

Great news about your scan :) did you go for lunch afterwards like you planned?

Yep, can definitely feel the movements more now, although not much in terms of pattern etc. Feel him a lot when I'm just resting and watching TV or laying in bed. My scan was booked for this Wednesday but my partner has a busy day booked in at work so tried our luck and asked to change. They've changed it to Thursday for us so looking forward to getting the scan done. Excited to see baby but always a bit nervous. Was due to have my flu and whooping cough straight after the scan on the Wednesday but now that I've rearranged the scan I'm not sure when I'll have them. I've been trying to contact them to ask to change the date but no such luck!! My hospital is two different ones linked together and I had to ring one unit for the scan, which went through very quickly, and then a different hospital and unit for the midwife and nobody ever answers!

Just had a lovely week off with my partner. I don't work on Mondays so I'm off again today. Had real Sunday night dread last night at the thought of her going back to work and our time off together ending :( counting down to the Christmas holidays already!

Did you feel any better today?

Thank you, will report back afterwards. Yep, it's not everyone's dream but I'd like to say I wasn't going back too! I will go back after this one and then I think my partner wants the same kind of gap between baby 2 and 3. After that we've said I'll probably just stop working because paying for childcare for three children would just be ridiculous and take pretty much all of my pay I think! I work 3 days a week now and that's quite nice, more time at home with my little boy than working. Still going to look into some ways to make extra money though like tutoring etc though because we don't own a house yet and are not married either so that's two big costs!

Scan went well ❤ Baby was very wriggly and had his head tucked up in my pelvis so the sonographer couldn’t get the best photos but baby is healthy and happy so all that matters.

Thanks!

Yes, exactly. I'd much rather that it was one of us taking care of them most of the time than paying someone else most/all of my wages to do so! Would probably stop work sooner if we didn't have the house and wedding to pay for. Think I might miss it a bit coz of the social side too but we'll see! Will go back full time when the kids are a bit older but would love to still do 4 days maximum ideally because I like the idea of taking them to school and seeing their teachers at least once a week. We're both teachers ourselves so I know how important that is.

Hmm, how about Fybogel? Not sure if you're meant to take it while pregnant but give it a Google. They gave me a mix of laculose and Fybogel after the c-section.

Yes it's definitely tricky. My school are currently paying for me to do some extra qualifications and so that's also put a bit of a spanner in the works! Means we both feel like I shouldn't leave. Before that we were thinking that I'd take the year off, go back for the minimum time that I had to and then quit teaching for a while and aim to do some tutoring for extra money. That's mainly to just avoid childcare fees which are crazy! At least our first son will be 3 by the time I go back to work and will start getting the 30hrs free childcare.

Good to hear that you're feeling better!

I had my immunisations on Monday and I don't know if it's a coincidence but I've felt so ill and strange the past few days. Our car broke down on Tuesday evening and when we finally got home after waiting for the AA I felt so tired and sick, forced myself to eat some dinner but regretted it straight away. I was up in the middle of the night convinced that I was going to be sick and then had a sharp stomachache all day yesterday. I was absolutely wiped out, couldn't eat and fell asleep on the sofa before my little boy had even gone to bed. Today I woke up feeling so achy and weak. Started to feel a bit better now but no idea what's been going on!

Got a letter through for an extra scan because they said that my placenta is covering the cervix, that's towards the end of January though so a while away. I was told that I'd see the consultant at around 30 weeks too so I'll have to ask the midwife about that at my next appointment. Think time definitely will start flying soon with Christmas coming up!

Think I'm going to have a look at dates today and what to write on my Mat B1 form because I picked that up on Monday. Not sure how early to leave this time. They've said elective sections are usually done at 39 weeks so that's around 7th March for me. I ended up being induced early last time so I only ended up with a couple of days off, want a bit more time to prep this time and spend time with our son.

Omnom - nursery will be lovely for him. As you say, they need to socialise too so that'll give him a good start. Our eldest son is going to nursery two days a week from January and I'm hoping that he'll love it. It'll be lovely for him to play new games, spend time with new people etc and I'll get to have some 1:1 time with the new baby and take them to clubs etc.

That's great that your boss is helping you out. Yes, go mad in the sales! I'm hoping for a few Black Friday bargains. We have most of the stuff we need anyway because we kept it but need a double pram so that's our big purchase. It's my birthday coming up and our son's having a sleepover the weekend after so hoping to get a bargain spa day too and my partner's going to pay for it as my main gift. Gutted I have to work on Black Friday because I just want to sit on the computer!

I don't think it's classed as placenta previa yet, from what I've seen after Googling it after the scan anyway! Think mine is only slightly covering so they just want to keep an eye on it. Still not heard anything about a consultant appointment, was hoping that I would because I want to know more about the c-section and when we're likely to get a date etc. Some people are allowed to book them in really early and we need to sort out childcare etc. Obviously not in a massive rush but I just like to know when my appointments are! How did your GTT go?

Pregnancy is going ok, how is yours? I'm 24 weeks now and feeling baby move around much more. Woke up in the night on Saturday with heartburn and had to take a Gaviscon tablet. Hoping that won't become a regular thing, not yet anyway! During my last pregnancy I had to have Gaviscon every night for the last month and had to be quite elevated in bed. Baby is quite high up now so probably squashing things already!

Wow, so much to catch up on. Can't believe it's only really us talking though!

Kitkat - sorry, never had an early anomaly scan. My first was at 20 weeks exactly and my second was just over 20. I rang up this time and asked if I could have it the week before because I was on holiday and my hospital said no because it was too early and they might not be able to see everything clearly enough. I know some hospitals say 18-22 weeks or something though because I see it on some of my phone apps. The only scans I've had at around 16 weeks are gender scans. Not sure if things are clear enough at that point to do all of the anomaly checks, don't think they are yet. You may be able to get a private anomaly done at around 17+6 but your hospital would probably refuse.

Yes, I do look forward to them growing up together and interacting. Sure there'll be plenty of brotherly arguments along the way, but lots of love and laughs! So excited for the spa, we've actually ended up booking an overnight stay so it's even better! Thanks, yes, would like some more info about the appointments! Think my next one is on the 18th so still a few more weeks until I can ask some questions.

Good that your results are all clear! Hmm, we had the same thing with my first son and he was 7lb6oz in the end! Couldn't believe it when I heard that in theatre. Good that they're checking up on you though. I was given extra growth scans and it's always a nice bonus to see baby more :)

I know, can't believe it's December tomorrow!

Let's see what they say to you on Tuesday. As I say, they were saying Fin was big for a long time and then I got such a shock when they called out that he was 7lb 6 in theatre! I'm booked in to see the midwife on Wednesday but have been trying to contact them to change it as it's my school's carol concert and I'd miss my class singing which would be a shame. It's my day off today so will have to keep ringing them. It's a new area in the hospital and they often have nobody manning the desk, it just has a sign when you get there telling you to sit and wait to be called. That's fine but causes trouble when you want to ring and talk to them!

Went to the spa last weekend, was lovely. Ate lots of fancy, healthy food, laid in bed and around the pool reading, had a massage. Have decided that I prefer it when I'm not pregnant though because it meant no jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, wine etc! Will just have to go back after baby is born!

Aww, I like 4D scans but my partner isn't so keen! We've got one booked in for Saturday though and both our mums are coming and so is my sister, same as what we did with our eldest son. Excited to see baby's little face!

I've done a little bit of shopping, but just using most stuff from my little boy! Ordered our pram though and it's coming tomorrow. Went for a double iCandy Peach with the new material, grey twill. It was on pre-order so no chance of any Black Friday deals :( sure you'll get some good Boxing Day deals. Worth looking online on Christmas Day too if you can because some sites start early. You can probably find a good spa/holiday deal too.

Definitely having some of the same symptoms as you. I'm 26+5 today.

MommyKenny - hope your scan goes well this week :)

Hi Ally, congratulations :)

I think it's still quite normal to have not felt baby yet, especially if it's your first. I felt my first son move just before my 20 week scan and my placenta was at the front so they said it was normal not to be able to feel very much at the beginning, as the placenta was like a cushion and blocking me from feeling it. Did they mention that yours was at the front? That could be why you're not feeling anything yet.

Had our 4D scan on Saturday and baby wasn't quite playing ball! They were asleep and wouldn't move so it was tricky to get a good view of them. I went for a walk and had a drink and we ended up being able to get a look at his face. So lovely to see them. Also got our new pram delivered and set it all up so that's exciting. Looking forward to using it, but also torn because it looks so perfect and I don't wanna spoil it! Also sad to sell our old pram because I've really loved using it and it feels special!

KitKat - if you'll be induced in April then you definitely belong here :) I know it feels like a big gap though! I think the 4D scan is a nice thing to do, a nice excuse to see their little face! They also do some measurements and checks for you too. Think this time they checked the heart, brain, some other organs, position of the placenta etc before looking at baby in 4D.

Maeve - welcome :)

Omnom - hope the move went well. Still quite a while to keep an eye on sales, we've just been a bit quicker with buying the pram so that I can hopefully sell the older one and need time to sort that out. Hope the growth scan goes well, just don't rely on that too much either, don't think you'll ever really know until they're here!

I saw the midwife yesterday and I'm measuring just under the 90th centile according to the measuring tape. Got a scan later in January to check the placenta location so not sure if they'll check the growth then too. Booked in to see the consultant yesterday and will see him on NYE. The midwife said he might set a c-section date, eek!

Congratulations :)

I'm 28 weeks today. We've asked for an elective c-section because my first birth was so horrible and ended up in an emergency c-section which then had lots of complications. The consultant agreed that an elective would be a good choice for us this time around.
