Just a quick update as my consultant appointment was a bit crazy! They were running an hour behind so I was sat just waiting for ages, got called in to see a nurse and have blood pressure and pulse done and then it all just kicked off from there really. They said my pulse was 121 so then as soon as the consultant came in that's all he wanted to talk about. He checked my pulse himself and said it was too fast and then skipping beats. He rang labour ward and got me transferred up there because he wanted an anesthetist to check me.

Got hooked up to an ECG and had it checked. Seems ok and he said it might just be my normal but have to keep an eye on it. I had heart trouble during my last pregnancy too so I'm a bit worried that it's going to happen again. Been told that if I have palpitations again and can hear it in my ears then I have to go in and get checked. Ahhhh. He told me that it can cause trouble with blood pressure and stop baby getting oxygen so that has freaked me out now.

Hey all 👋

These weeks are flying & I lose track of time. 18+2 today 🥳. I was woke up today by lots of little flutterings that interrupted my dream. I'm quite slim so I could literally see the skin over my bump moving by a fraction with every 'kick'. Its strange to feel it from both the inside & outside. I wonder if he's a little footballer or a ballerina. Or I have really strong gas?! Who knows 😂. Pregnancy pillow arrives today! So excited. Still no 20wk appointment letter. Grrr. I really want to see him again & let them do those really important checks. I hope everything's going to be OK 🤞.

HD - I saw from the other thread that you're having a little boy too 💙 congratulations! That's brilliant news, hun! I really hope that you don't have any further issues. Is it now a wait and see sort of thing or could they actively prevent the blood pressure issue? Really hoping this is all just your norm and everything's going to be fine. I imagine your nervous but please stay hopeful. Sending you lots of positivity 🙌.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Can't believe we're all nearly half way!

Hi Omnom, very quiet isn’t it! My laptop died a death earlier in the week so I’m using my phone but not as easy! Aww amazing that you can already see movements, that took longer to happen in my last pregnancy because the placenta was at the front and acting as a cushion. Been told that this time it’s at the back and I’m sure I can feel baby moving ❤ Hope your letter comes soon. Our scan was booked at the end of the 12 week one in front of us and she asked us about date and time preferences!

Yep, another boy for us! Evening out the genders in the house! Bet our son will love having a brother so close in age. Thanks, dunno what the deal is with my heart rate 🤷🏻‍♀️ Still over 100 lots of the time when I’m just sitting doing nothing.

Hey HD - It is a little quiet! Not always the easiest to find time, I understand. Ah that's amazing you can feel those movements this time round. Aren't they the best? I think they're the most wonderful thing! DH got to feel one yesterday and he was over the moon. They're stronger than a 'flutter' now too so they really draw my attention. I love watching the skin jump about and knowing he's flexing those little limbs. Makes me a little anxious for when he gets more powerful 😳 haha. My left leg is numb around the knee when I stand. Like pins and needles. Weird how the nerves are affected.

The letter finally came! Wednesday 23rd, few days before I'm 21 weeks. Can't wait to see him again. DH booking the day off to join me and then take me out for lunch. Just hoping for a wonderful experience and a relaxing day now 🤞.

Your son is going to love it! Two little boys 💙💙. If possible would you like more kiddos in the future? Wow, will they monitor you pretty closely then? Really hoping it's nothing of concern and you'll sail through this pregnancy.

Got my laptop back, woohoo! Something wrong with the RAM though so had to have one chip taken out, meaning that it's slower. I'll take that for now though rather than not having one at all! My uncle's ordered a new one for me and it's arrived so said I can go and see him to get it fitted. Gutted today because it's my day off, got myself and the little one sorted, coats and shoes on, strapped into the pram and then realised my partner took my car and my house keys are attached. Her house keys are left in the car. Means I'm stuck indoors all day, can't even do my walk to the supermarket to get us both some fresh air!!

Haha, it's lovely isn't it. Wow, can't believe your husband has felt it so early on, that's amazing. Mine are so on and off, most of the time I can't feel anything and then when I do I'm still questioning it! It's mostly when I'm relaxing on the sofa or laying in bed. Hope it actually is baby that I'm feeling! Yep, our bodies are doing all sorts of crazy things. At the moment I keep getting sharp pains in my bum muscles, a bit like I've pulled something. Getting uncomfortable to sleep already.

Yeah, we've said we'll aim to have one more and my partner wants to carry this time. She was always up and down about it but when I was about 14-15 weeks she said she's been thinking more about it and is pretty much 100% that she will try. I've got one embryo left so think she'll give that a try first and if it doesn't take then she has four frozen that she can try. She did say she only wants about 6 weeks maternity leave though and will give me the rest, more than happy to oblige!

Not completely sure if they'll monitor me more. The midwife said she'd like to see me again sooner than usual so is seeing me at 20 weeks rather than waiting until 24 I think it was. She's said she'll pretty much just do the vaccinations and that's it though, but it's a chance to speak to her about anything if I'm worried. Seeing her straight after my 20 week scan because they're in the same unit.

Sounds like you'll have a lovely day for your scan :) I get a bit nervous about it, of course, but the scan is so detailed and amazing. I remember them pointing out things like my son's nostrils last time! So interesting!

20 week anomaly scan went really well. Our little boy is perfect 💙 His movements feel stronger and more distinctive everyday.  He was drinking amniotic fluid, hiccuping and moving constantly. Everytime his little legs would kick on the screen, I would feel it and it was just amazing. We have some lovely photos of him sucking his thumb. He was breech and had his head tucked between his legs which meant the heart was checked last, sonographer was so lovely though and let me stay until he uncurled himself for a moment. I really didn't want to leave and come back another day with such an important check left out. When I went over his notes at home, he seems to be measuring a week behind. I'm not too concerned but I'm wondering what others think? Perhaps his positioning didn't help.

Had a few outfits bought for us which is lovely. I'm being really good and only picking up 3-6 months when they're in the sale. I have a feeling he's going to be spoilt with newborn and 0-3 months bits. Especially over Christmas. Had both whooping cough and flu vaccines done so my arms feel like dead weight. I wondered if anyone would think I'd spent the day jacking up with two little plasters on each arm 🤭.

HD - Hope you can really feel LO's movements now. I think it's lovely that your partner might carry next time. What an amazing experiance to be able to share with one another and both completely relate to. Like yourself, the sonographer did a close up on the nose, lips and chin. Was amazing to see. Have you had your scan yet or is it soon?

Great news about your scan :) did you go for lunch afterwards like you planned?

Yep, can definitely feel the movements more now, although not much in terms of pattern etc. Feel him a lot when I'm just resting and watching TV or laying in bed. My scan was booked for this Wednesday but my partner has a busy day booked in at work so tried our luck and asked to change. They've changed it to Thursday for us so looking forward to getting the scan done. Excited to see baby but always a bit nervous. Was due to have my flu and whooping cough straight after the scan on the Wednesday but now that I've rearranged the scan I'm not sure when I'll have them. I've been trying to contact them to ask to change the date but no such luck!! My hospital is two different ones linked together and I had to ring one unit for the scan, which went through very quickly, and then a different hospital and unit for the midwife and nobody ever answers!

Just had a lovely week off with my partner. I don't work on Mondays so I'm off again today. Had real Sunday night dread last night at the thought of her going back to work and our time off together ending :( counting down to the Christmas holidays already!

Yesterday was a complete right off for me. I was in such intense pain. I thought it could be trapped wind as I had a sharp, constant ache on my right side, just below the rib, could feel it in my back too. I barely slept last night so I'm expecting it to hit me at work later 😴. Made some porridge today which helped massively. Not only do I now have a more frequent need to pee but also a tingling (not painful) sensation once I've peed. Looks like I could have a UTI again. The pain in my side which is now a dull ache could possible be kidney related?! Ah who knows. The wait to see a Dr is frustrating but I'll book just incase. Knowing my luck all the symptoms will alleviate and I'll end up looking like a time waster. I'm going to drink a ridiculous amount of water to see if that helps things. Thankfully, our little man is kicking all the time so I haven't really stressed about how he's doing throughout all this. He's probably quite oblivious and content in his cocoon.

HD - Ah! He's moving about more for you 🥰 it's the best isn't it! Yeah we had a cheeky fry up after our scan, it was so needed after stressing all morning. Completely understand where your nerves are coming from. I'm sure everything will go smoothly for you and you'll wonder why you worried, like me. Hopefully you can get the jabs rearranged too. Lovely to hear you've had some time off with your partner. Well needed rest. I'm so envious. Ah, we're counting down to Christmas as well. I start my maternity at the end of December so I'm constantly calendar watching! I won't be returning to work either which I feel quite fortunate about. Haven't got that worry about whether I'll be ready to leave him or not. If all goes well, we'd like to try IVF again in the future and keep them relatively close together of we can so it seems pointless to head back in between. Being a SAHM has always been something I've looked forward to but I can imagine if I had a more fulfilling and well paid career, I'd be tempted to return. I should use my time off wisely and invest in my studies!

Not long now till the scan 🙌 so excited for you. It was such a wonderful day. Cant wait for your update.

Did you feel any better today?

Thank you, will report back afterwards. Yep, it's not everyone's dream but I'd like to say I wasn't going back too! I will go back after this one and then I think my partner wants the same kind of gap between baby 2 and 3. After that we've said I'll probably just stop working because paying for childcare for three children would just be ridiculous and take pretty much all of my pay I think! I work 3 days a week now and that's quite nice, more time at home with my little boy than working. Still going to look into some ways to make extra money though like tutoring etc though because we don't own a house yet and are not married either so that's two big costs!

Scan went well ❤ Baby was very wriggly and had his head tucked up in my pelvis so the sonographer couldn’t get the best photos but baby is healthy and happy so all that matters.

What a lovely update 💙. Fantastic to hear he's healthy and doing well. It's good that you and your partner have a plan for the future in regards to work & that you've got part time hours for now. These years are so precious to spend with your LO's.

Feeling so much better now. Convinced I was dehydrated and had upset my kidneys in the process. Keeping my appointment with the Dr as I'm potentially constipated & the Lactulose isn't cutting it. I'll keep hydrated in the meantime.

Pregnancy is just 👌 sometimes 🤣.

Thanks!

Yes, exactly. I'd much rather that it was one of us taking care of them most of the time than paying someone else most/all of my wages to do so! Would probably stop work sooner if we didn't have the house and wedding to pay for. Think I might miss it a bit coz of the social side too but we'll see! Will go back full time when the kids are a bit older but would love to still do 4 days maximum ideally because I like the idea of taking them to school and seeing their teachers at least once a week. We're both teachers ourselves so I know how important that is.

Hmm, how about Fybogel? Not sure if you're meant to take it while pregnant but give it a Google. They gave me a mix of laculose and Fybogel after the c-section.

My thoughts exactly when it comes to childcare! I'm torn between starting my training in the career I want to pursue and homeschooling my LO's. I would love to do both but I'm not sure how it's possible when I hope to throw myself into the training wholeheartedly. In the short-term, homeschooling is the answer but then in the long-term, I haven't set myself up with a career yet that can support my children alongside my husband. Something for us both once they're older (perhaps senior school). Frustrating. I'm sure lots of parents find themselves in these sorts of predicaments. I'll have to make sacrifices I guess. I agree with the max of 4 days a week, that's definitely favourable if you can. I'd love the same.

I have to admit that shortly after writing my post the other day, I actually got over my bit of constipation, ha. Relieved. I cancelled my Dr's appointment too as I ended up drinking so much water that all the pains went and I feel myself again. Could have been anything but I'm guessing dehydration played a large part. Our little boy is moving about so much at the moment, it's amazing. I'm counting down the days until next Friday when I'm officially 24 weeks. For some reason in my head, that's always been the goal. 3 weeks till my GTT, then a midwife appointment and lastly a consultant appointment at 28 weeks. I'll blink and be breaking up for Christmas & my maternity. Woo!

Yes it's definitely tricky. My school are currently paying for me to do some extra qualifications and so that's also put a bit of a spanner in the works! Means we both feel like I shouldn't leave. Before that we were thinking that I'd take the year off, go back for the minimum time that I had to and then quit teaching for a while and aim to do some tutoring for extra money. That's mainly to just avoid childcare fees which are crazy! At least our first son will be 3 by the time I go back to work and will start getting the 30hrs free childcare.

Good to hear that you're feeling better!

I had my immunisations on Monday and I don't know if it's a coincidence but I've felt so ill and strange the past few days. Our car broke down on Tuesday evening and when we finally got home after waiting for the AA I felt so tired and sick, forced myself to eat some dinner but regretted it straight away. I was up in the middle of the night convinced that I was going to be sick and then had a sharp stomachache all day yesterday. I was absolutely wiped out, couldn't eat and fell asleep on the sofa before my little boy had even gone to bed. Today I woke up feeling so achy and weak. Started to feel a bit better now but no idea what's been going on!

Got a letter through for an extra scan because they said that my placenta is covering the cervix, that's towards the end of January though so a while away. I was told that I'd see the consultant at around 30 weeks too so I'll have to ask the midwife about that at my next appointment. Think time definitely will start flying soon with Christmas coming up!

Think I'm going to have a look at dates today and what to write on my Mat B1 form because I picked that up on Monday. Not sure how early to leave this time. They've said elective sections are usually done at 39 weeks so that's around 7th March for me. I ended up being induced early last time so I only ended up with a couple of days off, want a bit more time to prep this time and spend time with our son.

Updates:

I've enrolled our LO up to a nursery that has children from 1-5. My mum works for the church that it's based within & she can't praise them enough. The waiting list is quite long so they recommended I completed his form early. It's not exactly cheap but I've heard so many good things about them from friends & family. It would be lovely to have him socialising and making friendships over those 4 years. I appreciate homeschooling has social limitations but I'm optimistic this will give him the best start.

I'm very grateful for my employer, he arranged a meeting with my husband and I, then we went through the protocol of how best to work the maternity pay in our favour. He's very understanding (he idolises his only daughter) and completely put my mind at ease. I look forward to leaving at the end of December even more now. I stand constantly for my job so I've given myself 2 months off as this is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure how I'm going to feel. Thought it would be best to allow myself time to rest up and actually start preparing for our boys arrival. Got some shopping to crack on with and I might as well use the January sales to my advantage 🛍.

HD - Hope you're feeling much better m'lovely! So does this mean you have placenta previa? Its amazing how they can know these things & you're given time to prepare. Definitely feels like Christmas is hurrying things along. Won't be long before we have our consultations. My GTT is this Friday and my midwife app is next Friday. So excited! Hope you can arrange your maternity so you have more time with both your boys. How are you finding this pregnancy so far?

Hello ladies, quickly jumping on here as I am looking for some feedback/opinion please. Technically I will fall into the May/Jun due date thread but due to my age they would induce at 39 weeks if I make there and that would make me fall into a late April due date  :) anyway, I am only 16w5d but was wondering if anyone here did an an early anomaly scan between 16-18 weeks? What's the reason you did or didn't do it? And were they able to see a lot of what you'd see at 20 weeks?
I am toying with the idea of a scan at 17+4 or 17+6 because I have family over a few days later and haven't told them, because I can't hide from work that am pregnant for too much longer and perhaps it could give me some reassurance hopefully ruling out a few things. I am just not sure if I really need it and if I would be more worried if they found something and then still had to wait 2 more weeks. I am 43 and this was an embryo from when I was 41.

Omnom - nursery will be lovely for him. As you say, they need to socialise too so that'll give him a good start. Our eldest son is going to nursery two days a week from January and I'm hoping that he'll love it. It'll be lovely for him to play new games, spend time with new people etc and I'll get to have some 1:1 time with the new baby and take them to clubs etc.

That's great that your boss is helping you out. Yes, go mad in the sales! I'm hoping for a few Black Friday bargains. We have most of the stuff we need anyway because we kept it but need a double pram so that's our big purchase. It's my birthday coming up and our son's having a sleepover the weekend after so hoping to get a bargain spa day too and my partner's going to pay for it as my main gift. Gutted I have to work on Black Friday because I just want to sit on the computer!

I don't think it's classed as placenta previa yet, from what I've seen after Googling it after the scan anyway! Think mine is only slightly covering so they just want to keep an eye on it. Still not heard anything about a consultant appointment, was hoping that I would because I want to know more about the c-section and when we're likely to get a date etc. Some people are allowed to book them in really early and we need to sort out childcare etc. Obviously not in a massive rush but I just like to know when my appointments are! How did your GTT go?

Pregnancy is going ok, how is yours? I'm 24 weeks now and feeling baby move around much more. Woke up in the night on Saturday with heartburn and had to take a Gaviscon tablet. Hoping that won't become a regular thing, not yet anyway! During my last pregnancy I had to have Gaviscon every night for the last month and had to be quite elevated in bed. Baby is quite high up now so probably squashing things already!

Wow, so much to catch up on. Can't believe it's only really us talking though!

Kitkat - sorry, never had an early anomaly scan. My first was at 20 weeks exactly and my second was just over 20. I rang up this time and asked if I could have it the week before because I was on holiday and my hospital said no because it was too early and they might not be able to see everything clearly enough. I know some hospitals say 18-22 weeks or something though because I see it on some of my phone apps. The only scans I've had at around 16 weeks are gender scans. Not sure if things are clear enough at that point to do all of the anomaly checks, don't think they are yet. You may be able to get a private anomaly done at around 17+6 but your hospital would probably refuse.

Kitkat - hey! I did have a private 16 week scan but this was purely to found out the gender and to have a sneak peak at him. The sonographer made me aware she would not be able to complete the more important checks that we would later have at 20weeks but she confirmed he looked happy and healthy for now. It's such a personal decision for you and because of that you should do whatever you feel most comfortable with hun.

HD - That 1:1 time will be wonderful and I'm positive your eldest will love nursery. Won't be long before they're playing together 😍. Ah I'm so jealous of the spa day, sounds amazing right now. Everything crossed that the placenta stays put and doesn't cause you any issues. Hopefully they become a little more efficient with the booking of your appointments as well! I can appreciate how frustrating that must be with another child to organise. How wonderful that your feeling LO move more! I think it's the best. Shame about your heartburn 😔. Hope this pregnancy will continue differently to your last. I completely agree about the rising organs. Mine feel so squished, especially when I lean forward. On the plus side, my posture has improved! Ha.

GTT went without issues. Got to know the blood nurse well and she gave me a big hug before I left. Had the results since and all clear. Saw my MW today and our son is measuring bigger than expected. Depending on how the curve of the growth graph progresses with each check, it may be that they'll look at other options than letting him get too big. She worked out he would be approx. 10 [email protected] They would potentially induce early or look at a caesarian if he does indeed continue to grow at this rate, he might taper off a little or the measurement/positioning could have been off today as he's very high up. They'll check in a few weeks and get a better idea. Other than that she confirmed he was a happy and healthy baby and she had no issues with anything which was so lovely to hear! Thrilled.

Eeeeek, not long to Christmas, then only a few short months 🙈 xx

Yes, I do look forward to them growing up together and interacting. Sure there'll be plenty of brotherly arguments along the way, but lots of love and laughs! So excited for the spa, we've actually ended up booking an overnight stay so it's even better! Thanks, yes, would like some more info about the appointments! Think my next one is on the 18th so still a few more weeks until I can ask some questions.

Good that your results are all clear! Hmm, we had the same thing with my first son and he was 7lb6oz in the end! Couldn't believe it when I heard that in theatre. Good that they're checking up on you though. I was given extra growth scans and it's always a nice bonus to see baby more :)

I know, can't believe it's December tomorrow!

Hey hannahdaisy and omnomnom, thanks so much for both your replies! I ended up with a 16 week appointment which was consultant led and they looked and listened to the heartbeat and did a mini scan (all well). I am not quite sure what they were looking for or at but decided to wait till the 20 week anomaly in the end. Nervous...

Hannahdaisy just read about your plan to visit a spa which sounds like heaven. Do you know if you can do a normal massage at this stage or does it have to be a pregnancy massage? We are booked for a winter holiday and as I can't go skiing I am looking for alternative things to do (but they only have normal massages there).

How does the initial movement of the baby feel like? I am 19 weeks and I have a kind of weird feeling in my abdomen. It's a bit like the twitch of a nerve half way between the belly button and my pubic bone - may well just be a nerve I guess! As I have an anterior placenta I don't even know if I should feel anything just yet. It's definitely not gas and doesn't feel like gas :)
