I'm not sure where to put this but we're investigating IVF and ICIS at the moment and I noticed that one of the fertility clinics that I contacted wanted to know about our blood types.

I'm rh O negative and my husband is O+.  I think that I have heard about being O- with a O+ partner can be a little tricky in pregnancy and I am totally jumping the gun here and thinking positively but has anyone else had this blood group combination and can tell me what it might mean for our treatment?  Did you have to have any extra medication or preparation?

Thanks so much

Hi Molly
I'm rh I neg and my dh is positive and we didn't have to have anything different in treatment.
I did have done bleeding in early pregnancy which meant the hospital gave me an anti d injection and I think
I'm due another later in pregnancy

Good luck with your treatment Hun xx

Sorry only just come across this post so hope the information is still useful for you.

I am ORh- and DH ORh+ I also have an additional antigen M that nobody has every really been able to explain to me what that means.

The only tricky thing (so to speak) is that mum has to have an anti D jab late in pregnancy. This is not to support the current pregnancy though but to protect mother from developing antibodies that might jeopardise future pregnancies. To explain in slightly more detail:

If baby is rh+ and mum is rh- and blood crosses over from placenta during birth (which is fairly usual) then mum will see the rh+ as foreign objects and develop antibodies towards that blood to defend her body from invasion, just like we do with disease. In subsequent pregnancies, the mum's new antibodies would attack the rh+ baby. This can lead to all sorts of health complications for baby.

The way around this is for mum to have an Anti D injection, often given in late pregnancy. It will be in your notes and should happen automatically.

Like gem421, I also had to have an additional anti D jab at 15 weeks due to bleeding. I also had to have the normal ones given late in pregnancy but that was it. A very simple solution to what could otherwise be a devastating problem.

This is one of the few things you don't need to worry about with treatment and TTC. ;)

Hi

I am Rh-O negative and my husband is A positive. We have no problems getting pregnant  ;D with IVF but sadly have trouble keeping the pregnancy  :'(
After my first miscarriage I had an ERPC privately and I was given the antiD injection
During my ectopic pregnancy I was not given the antiD as pregnancy not that far gone. Different consultants have informed me that the different blood groups have no effect on the baby nor does it cause miscarriage.
In the hope I do eventually get pregnant and go full term I would be given the anti D shots during the pregnancy
