Hi everyone, I'm after any recommendation of clinic around the north west that do IMSI and have good results in treating women over 40, with great results with blastocyst culture.  The clinic I'm with continues with the same treatment and protocol each cycle even though I've had 4 cycles and no pregnancy and I'm getting top grade blastocysts. Deep down I feel that something is wrong but I don't know what and they are not suggesting and tests or any other meds to help with implantation.  They say it's a matter of trying and eventually it will happen but with age not on our side and not to mention the cost of each failure financially and emotionally I feel a change of clinic may be worth a try.  I will consider other clinics but would prefer the north west.  This clinic makes me feel that they just want our money and to be honest when you eventually get through on the phone they make you feel like a nuisance for ringing.  Thanks ladies.

Hi ICSIPixieGirl, I too am looking for a good ICSI clinic (I'm 37 and just had our first treatment which failed). Do you mind me asking who you are with currently? I have had a look at Manchester CARE but do not have any personal recommendations unfortunately (I am based in Cheshire).

Hello tough cookie,  I'd rather not say who I'm with just incase I don't end up moving clinics and we have another treatment there (could be a bit awkward LOL!).  Sorry to hear that your treatment failed, will you try again?

Ideally I would rather stay at this clinc, I know it, I know the staff but I just want them to be more proactive.  I feel like they are just going through the motions each time with the same drugs, the same protocol and just hoping for the best and oh by the way that will be 5 grand thanks very much see you next time!  I had all the basic test 6 years ago and no one has ever mentioned repeating any of them.  My last treatment is failing as we speak, I'm still taking the progesterone but I started bleeding at 5dp5dt with 2 top blasts - I can't find the words to say how disappointed and p'd off I am, I've tested bfn and I'm 9dp5dt today and I don't think anything will change before otd on Sunday.  At my follow up I will discuss all my gripes and if no changes are made I will have to vote with my feet and find a new clinic.  I was hoping that this would be our last treatment or we would at least have some embies to freeze but none made it which surprises me as we had 2 top grade blastos tsf'd.  I feel like having a big girlie tantrum right now LOL,

Hi, I've had 2 NHS funded IVF with Hewitt Centre in Liverpool (no implantation) and 2 ICSIs at CARE Manchester privately (no implantation). We have unexplained infertility (though I am going to be 40 this year and I guess my eggs quality is not going to improve) and no further investigations were suggested by neither of the clinics. I had 2 long and 2 short protocols and they have tried adding extra drugs (Clexane, high dose Folic acid, Prednisolone) with no result. I am considering to try clinics based in London now. I hope you find a clinic, where you have your successful treatment, good luck!

Hi ICSIPixieGirl - How did you get on? (fingers crossed it was good news).

I was going to suggest maybe writing down your concerns / questions and taking them with you for when you go see your clinic next. 6 years since some of your original tests were last done is a long time and I think if you were to move clinics I would be surprised if any new clinic did not insist you have them re-done, especially AMH. It's a hard thought to come to terms with but an obvious thing maybe egg quality - if this something of a concern then at least your treatment could be more tailored and perhaps taking certain supplements may help. Out of interest is your clinic testing your FSH level at the start of fresh cycle? I have been doing some reading up for when we go in to see our consulatant re our failed cycle and high FSH levels have been linked to causes of unsuccessfull treatment. It's soo difficult a it could be any number of things

However, teapot73 has used both a private clinic and nhs so it's difficult to say you are more likely to be successful if you move - I suppose using the same protocol and medication is not necessarily a concern PROVIDING they are confident that it is the best course of action and can explain why they are not changing it.

Out of interest teapot73, I know you were not successfull with your treatment there but overall how did you find CARE Manchester?

On positive note Tina Malone (of Shameless fame) is over 50 and preganant thanks to IVF (using an egg donor) so there is still hope ladies

Hi, ToughCookie, sorry for the delay in replying. I did like CARE Manchester (we used their satellite clinic in Bolton for consultant's appts and scans) though I am not totally convinced that their embryology is very good as was expecting higher fertilisation during ICSI (out of 8 mature eggs they got 5 embryos and none progressed to blasts), and I had to ask for further tests (hysteroscopy and AMH (no consultants suggested this), as never had them before and thought that they might find an abnormality there but everything came back normal). After 2 protocols with CARE I just feel that I need to change the clinic again now for a different approach and possibly better embryology.  ^pray^

I've posted before that I wasn't very happy with my experiences at CARE Manchester and then transferred over to the Hewitt Centre at Liverpool.  I was privately funded for both and I have found Liverpool to be much more professional and pleasant to deal with.  I had IVF rather than IMSI, but I know that they do a lot of research at the HC and were one of the first in the country to offer EEVA so I would be surprised if they weren't pretty switched on.  The medical director is Mr Kingsland and I asked to see him after I felt that the first consultant didn't give me enough information and he was able to answer all my questions.  I also had the email address and phone no. for the unit manager, so any queries that the nurses couldn't deal with and I could contact her and she would speak to a consultant for me.  Not that I'm demanding or anything :) but it is a lot of money and you are putting your body through the wringer, so I feel we're entitled to get all the information we feel we need.

Of course I am probably well disposed towards them because I got frosties from my first attempt and am now 24 weeks pregnant from the second attempt, so things worked out well for me in the end.  Hope you can find a clinic you feel happy with, it makes such a difference when you trust your clinic to know what they're doing.

Good luck

Thanks that's both really useful and interesting. My first treatment was at HC and I did find them to be helpful and was impressed that they have the embryoscope and eevie options so will probably see how we get on with them again.
