Can you transfer sperm after PICSI/IMSI?

Hello,
This is probably a really daft question but I'll just ask it ;D can you have sperm selected with either IMSI or PICSI at a private clinic and then get it transferred to another clinic? Or as you are selecting the best individual sperm, rather than transporting the original millions of it, is it just not feasible to do it at another clinic? We have one more NHS go and I really want to give it the best chance (particularly as we need PGD, an extra £4k!) but the clinic we are at don't do either. Or is it even worth asking if they can do PICSI? I know IMSI requires an expensive microscope but my understanding was PICSI was done with a substance in a Petri dish.
Thank you  :) x

Hi Susan

I don't know for definite but I would be very surprised if any clinic was able to offer IMSI or PICSI if you weren't cycling with them.  I know the time between egg collection and fertilisation is very important, and sometimes theres a worry that if they take too long to find the best quality sperm it can cause issues. Therefore adding transporting the sperm into the time frame before fertilisation wouldn't be a great idea.

Could you find an nhs clinic that does IMSI and use your free go there?  I think CARE manchester do it, not sure if they work with nhs patients but worth investigating if you think this is something you really want to try.

I'm not sure if any UK clinics are offering PICSI, Dr Gorgy was talking about getting City Fertility to offer it but not sure if they do yet.

Good Luck xxx

It did occur to me but I wasnt sure about the rules for moving clinics, particularly since we need PGD and the hospital we are at is the only one that does it is in Scotland. I was thinking IMSI/PICSI then freezing but I'm guessing you're right that they'd only do it if you're cycling with them. Thanks x
