Hi all

My dp and i have been ttc for 6 yrs (lucky to have a 7yr old dd).  My dp has low volume but otherwise normal SA. He has on several occasions had problems with the supply on demand bit  ;) and last time on day of iui could only produce a drop or two, the hospital decided to proceed with it, 4 mil but unsurprisingly got a BFN.

No problems ^hump^

What i would like to know is if any other members have had this problem and how they have got round it.  I think the clinic will agree to producing the sample at home for the our next go, but was wondering about special condoms??

Any advice appreciated

Hi Emma,

Although we were male factor dh didn't have problems producing on demand in hospital but the following may help.

I've read on various websites that your DP could produce the goods at home in a specimen container (it's bigger than a urine sample bottle but he will need to get his aim right) and then get it hospital (assuming you don't live too far from hospital) but don't forget there could be a fall off in the amount of active live ^sperm^

Apparently there are special condoms where you can ahem assist him if you wish - ask your clinic if these are available.  Some clinics have a special men's room where there is suitable  ;) reading material.  Maybe worth asking if that is available or buy a mag for your DH and take it in with him wrapped up in a newspaper.  Also direct him to the 'Men's Room' board on this site.  Other men maybe able to offer suggestions.

Good luck with your treatment.

Hi
We don't have any male factor so I don't know if it would be different, though I don't see why it would - but it may be helpful to know my DP has been given the option of doing his sample whereever he wants (!)  both times we've had tx and when he did his SA.

He was given a sample pot and he did it at home.  He just had to keep it warm (in his trouser pocket -or, as in the case of our last tx, in my trouser pocket as he was driving!!!!) and give it to the nurse straight away.  It had to be in an incubator within 2 hours of production.

Ask, I'm sure they'll let him. Seems silly to let something like that get in the way of tx - it's a waste of their time and yours.

Sorry don't know about condoms but I have heard about them somewhere.....

Hiya

As we live about 5 mins away from the clinic i think we will try at home.  dp says the porn in the clinic put him off last time as the women were about the same age as his mum or even worse my mum ^scared^

I think i will try to be more chilled about the whole thing aswell, can't help with the pressure.

Thanks for your replies

Em75 - I had a similar issue but found the major contributer is stress, I hate to say it but 2 things helped, A) a good  ^hump^ life else otherwise you concentrate on the boyz a bit too much, B) holidays, again the distractions from thinking about the boyz again...

I realise a lot of ladies will get upset as they feel emotionally drained during tx and don't want to ^hump^ but I'm just talking from experiance....

Above and beyond that, good diet, 2-3 litres of water a day & keep crunching the selerium & garlic tabs.

Regards
Andy

Thank you Andy

I have to agree, i think too much emphasise was on him that day and the stress got to him.  I will take your advice and make sure that he gets plenty of non baby making  ^hump^ (i'm sure he will thank you for that suggestion)

Congratulations and i hope that your wife is feeling better.
