HI All,

Toffee Apple hope you're ok. I've never experienced spotting but it seems to be quite common if somewhat scary. For what it's worth I agree with Mrs C.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend? Sounds like some of you were enjoying nice lazy sundays. I had to go and start Christmas shopping yesterday which was semi-successful then collected hubby from the airport in the evening.

Just a quick question if I can. Is anyone experiencing hip pain? It's just in my right hip and I think it may just be ligaments/tendons stretching. There's no discomfort at all coming from my uterus area but just over the top of my right hip. It's not so bad when I'm sitting/standing but it's really uncomfortable when I lie down and can hardly lay on my right side at all. It hurts when I take a deep breath in too. Really weird. I have a scan tomorrow and all being week seeing the c midwife wed so will ask them both then. All OK otherwise, just super apprehensive about tomorrow.

Have a good day everyone x

Thank you for the reassurance Mrs C and congrats on 11 weeks! I understand the apprehension but it sounds like all is ticking along  :)

Between my hip aching and stressing about tomorrow I hardly slept last night. I’ll be ten weeks tomorrow. It’s strange because I do still have symptoms, not always super strong but they are there but I just feel like sth is amiss. Im hoping it’s just nerves but it’s not nice at all. I haven’t really had any cramps for a few days apart from this weird hip thing which is more of a constant pain but I am still really tired, tender boobs on and off and mild nausea on and off, ooo and a little bit short tempered  :-[ the rationale part of me just thinks there’s  no need for specific concern but it feels like a long time since my last scan two weeks ago and the doubts are all creeping back in. Maybe it just feels too good to be true to have got this far.

Sorry for dwelling just quite scared  :( Hope you have a good day. I think you said before you have Mondays off. If so I hope you’re doing sth nice x

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the encouraging words. the worry doesn't seem to end does it  :-\

Bossy - so sorry to hear you've had a rough night. I agree with others that while it sounds scary and you should def go for a scan on Thursday to settle your mind, I'm sure everything is ok. Just little been getting really comfy and stretching him/herself out a bit for the long-haul :) My scan tomorrow is 1230.

Missl - really sorry to hear about your anxiety and your MIL getting carried away. I totally understand that you feel you just need to take a day at a time and it's overwhleming when others get carried away. In my case it's my husband who I am needing to reign in. Despite what I keep telling him about this still being early it's as if he doesn't acknowledge the risks like I'm just being paranoid.  All I can recommend is taking a deep breath and focusing on yourself. Do whatever you feel you need to do to keep calm. Big hugs x

Happyeverafter - I echo MrsC's comments. I would def recommend reaching out to your GP as soon as you're comfortable. I had a MMC last cycle at 7.5-8weeks so I was reticent to call my GP until after I had a successful viability scan at 7 weeks. I then had to wait a week to see my GP (which was a fairly futile exercise as all he told me to do was schedule an appt with the community midwife for a 'booking in' appointment, but yours may be better), then it took me two weeks to get that appointment which will happen on Wed.  I agree with Mrs C that after all we're paying already I wouldn't line their pockets unnecessarily unless you especially feel more comfortable continuing your care there as long as possible. NHS would do your dating scan with nuchal translucency scan at 12w but you would already have needed to have your booking in appointment with the nurse to get that scheduled in.  Re exercise, the generaly rule of thumb seems to be that if you did sth before you can continue as long as it's not super strenuous. That said I usually swim 3-4 times a week but haven't since EC as I'm so acutely paranoid about asking myself 'what if' questions should we get any surprises. I think it's great to continue what you're doing.  If we get the OK at 12w I will gently resume my usual routine.

Toffeeapple - hope you're feeling a little better

MrsC - have a lovely relaxing time having your nails done!

Hi Ladies,

Ah Missl -  poor you and I empathise 100% as I had a similar night  :'( I was shattered yesterday but just had to do some quick handwashing straight after tea forgoing away tomorrow and already my tummy was sore. I knew sth was on it's way then I had about 3 hours of on and off horrible cramps and upset tummy. I eventually got to bed but then spent half the night awake worrying about the baby. I agree with the other recommendations. I could only face toast with honey this am but have just had some baked beans and sliced ham. I was due to see the midwife this am anyway and told her and as your mum and dad said she was disconcertingly uninterested and I couldn't decide if that was a good or a bad thing. I'm also at home today but no time to rest as suddenly it's insanely busy and with the appts yesterday and today I'm even more behind. I really hope you can take it easy this afternoon through and feel much better soon. I know we all want to eat healthily but honestly I think there are times we just have to eat whatever keeps us functioning! Sending big hugs.

Midwife appt was fine but uneventful. NHS scan booked for 21st (the day after the private one we already have in the diary). She has also referred me for consultant care. While there are sooooo many hurdles to get over we did ask about elective caesarean for multiple reasons and apparently our hosp doesn't do it at all. Funnily enough I had come across sth a while ago when I wasn't pregnant about the guidelines being all NHS hospitals should offer it but now that I've done some research it seems most don't. I am just grateful to be here at all of course but and I know no-one wants complications but being 42 and this being a first child and there being much higher risks of natural birth and still birth risk rises significantly in over 40's after 40 weeks I just through they would want to whip it out. Anyway, I suppose if they think there is a risk they won't put me through it but just thought it was odd. I filled in an NHS survey to recommend whether you could have home, birth centre or labour ward birth and it was emphatic that due to age and first pregnancy it would be a labour ward job but the midwife was saying I could choose labour ward or birth centre and couldn't see why I couldn't even have a home birth if I wanted one. Is she nuts? Mmm rant over.

Right lovelies need to run as have so much to finish off this afternoon but sending you all lots of love. Missl, feel better.

xx

Otherwise the appt

Hi everyone,

Wow so much to catch up on. Sorry to be a little quiet. Have had an exhausting few days between one thing and another but now in Portugal... in bed for the night... and yes, we’re even in the same time zone!!!

Toffee apple- amazing news. Congratulations! You must be over the moon! Really delighted for you  :) enjoy this moment!

Missl so glad you’re feeling better today.

Bossy, so pleased the bleeding has stopped

Mrs c and janeliot  - thank you so much for the reassuring words re pregnancy/natural birth and age. I was just a bit surprised at how casual the mw was the other day but I guess that’s their job. I’m just going to continue to take a day at a time and hopefully that will work it’s way out over time. Maybe I’ll change my outlook too. Amazing that you have so much history of late babies in your family Janeliot. I was talking to my boss on tues and one of her friends had a first baby through the ARGC at 45. Apparently she affectionately referred to herself as a ‘pregnasaurus’. Love that!

V interested in this thyroid discussion too. I’ve never had any issues with it to my knowledge but it was sth they checked again beforehand my last cycle. Might get my dr to check it again as I’ve also been advised t9 get him to check my vit d levels as not sure whether to continue taking the supplement I have been on over and above pregnacare multivits. Will maybe get him to authorise then send to my consultant as I think she’d still, be happy to comment.

Sorry for no more personals. I really am frazzled. Didn’t sleep much two nights ago when I wasn’t well, then this am we had to be up at 0330 and didn’t sleep well as knew I had to get up plus the usual bathroom breaks!

Just wanted to say Mrs C was also reassured by your comments about the tummy twinges. I had a weird pulling /tightness/ mild stabbing pain this afternoon which totally freaked me out. I couldn’t say it was painful. Just really made me squirm and worry that sth may be wrong. Think I’ve done more today than usual. Hubby has been lugging my carry on bag about but have been trekking up and down hills and lots of stairs in old buildings etc so think maybe it was just beanies way of telling me he’d had enough! Stopped for a hot choc and now back at hotel, showered and in bed!

Oh one more comment on the bloating and changing shape. yes I hear you! I’m normally an 8-10 with a fairly flat tummy but I’m now really bloated and getting quite round. I’m really hoping this is somewhat baby related as if it’s just from what I’ve been eating (which is frankly possible given my appetite!!) I’m worried  ;D i have muffin top  :-\.

Night night everyone xx

Oh Hopefulkayte,

I 5hink we posted at the same time. You poor thing. My heart really goes out to you. Really sorry to hear that you continue to suffer so much. Can you get some kind of specialist referral from your GP I wonder? Sounds like you’re being looked after so well by your husband and so tough when you don’t feel you have many other people,e to share with. I know it’s not the same as your close friends and family but just know that we’re hear for you and as boss said before, holding your hand  :) I really hope things start to settle down for you.

I’m afraid I’ve never experienced anything like you are but just wanted to send you a big hug. Hope you manage to rest better this evening xx

Hi everyone and welcome shelbo!

MrsC and Missl so happy you have seen your little beans today. Missl, as others have said I would try not to worry too much and I am sure little bean will catch up soon :) MrsC. So amazing! Congratulations on graduating to the due date board!  ;D I really hope more of us will join you and Janeliot soon. HopefulKayte, how do you feel about moving over?

Shelbo, I’m not sure it’s sth we’ve spoken a lot about on here but I have been struggling with sleep too. It’s mainly caused due to having to pee so often during the night but in the last week or so the insomnia has really kicked in and I’ve been reading my book in the middle of the night  :-\ Dare is day you get used to it though! I spoke to one of my friends and she said she suffered with is throughout pregnancy!

Otherwise all ok. Do have moments where I feel v normal which is a bit disconcerting. The waves of nausea have subsided but I still have a good appetite! OH thinks it’s hilarious how much I’ve been eating. Have had a few headaches, boobs have grown a bit and now have less general tenderness but more specific kind of nipple pain which I think you mentioned mrsc. Can’t believe it was only s week since pir 10w scan ans still a bit worried about my upset tum last tues and the tummy pains on thurs but no bleeding or spotting and otherwise all fine so hoping everything is absolutely normal but nerves are really setting in about getting combined blood and harmony test results next week and the 12 week scan. Janeliot Im almost wishing we’d approached it the same way as you now but with going to South Africa two days after the 12w scan we just wanted to be sure we had done the tests we needed to at the right time in case it got tricky logistically.

Well better go and check out.

Sending everyone big hugs from sunny sintra! Xx

Hi shelbo,

Just going to get on my soapbox for a moment  :) if you have had treatment abroad I’m assuming it’s private which I’m guessing is because you were not eligible for ivf in the uk. In our county they wo t consider ivf for anyone over the age of 35 so we’ve paid for everything ourselves. What’s more, by the age of 42 i am guessing yourself and your partner have paid your fair share of taxes and NI contributions so I don’t think you should feel in the least bit guilty about asking your GP for a prescription. He/ she can only say no (and I’m pretty sure if you have an active pregnancy they won’t) but if they do I would personally kick up quite a fuss.... but that’s just me  :)

Got to run. At airport now and on our way home! Lots of love xx

Hi MrsFW,

Crossing my fingers for your HT results. I am sure all will be grand :)  So sorry to hear about your neighbour. Strangely we had a really similar thing happen here. We live on a relatively new development so I don't know the lady but I always saw her walking up and down with her bumpy then newborn when it arrived (over a year ago now) then one day she was on her phone walking up the street wailing into the phone that 'they' had taken her baby away. It was truly awful. I was on a work call at the time or else I would probably have gone out to check on her. Over the next few days various cars came and went then soon after the baby was back. I can't imagine what circumstances lead to those kind of things but really hope that as long as she is fit to look after him/her, all works out and they will be reunited soon.

Right better get back to it. Just a little interlude form all the emails I'm trying to catch up on  :( Big hugs x

Ah brilliant news on the Harmony result. Another important milestone brilliantly navigated  :) Well done  Mrsfw!

I really hope ours is OK next week. I kind of didn't really think about scheduling it. It was just sth our clinic recommended at 10weeks. They have no vested interest as they don't do them themselves so I just kind of got on with it. I have kind of got myself into a headspace where I feel things are moving in the right direction so I so hope that we're not in for any big disappointments next week. Worse still, OH will be in South Africa already so I'll be on my tod.

Got to go. Hubby's stomach thinks his throat's been cut  ::) Cat is also being very vocal about her dinner time!

Missl - thank you for the encouraging words. So sorry to hear how anxious your are. I do understand your concern but as MrsC said, I don’t think they would have gone ahead if they didn’t feel the conditions were suitable. How long do you have to wait for a repeat scan? It’s so hard waiting but I think all you can do is try to keep your mind and body busy. Easier said than done I know. What do you have planned for the weekend?

Congratulations Lori on your scan. Sounds wonderful and nice that you have an interim scan planned.

For all those of you over the 12 week mark, have you stopped your pessaries straight away or are you phasing them out? I can’t wait to be shot of them! I will still have a few left in the box so assuming all is ok Tuesday I’ll take one/day for 5/6 days then I’ll be done. Will not miss those.

Feeling a little ropey this am I have to say. I have a customer lunch over at Liverpool Street. Was going to drive to west london then get the tube but couldn’t face it so now on the train to Waterloo. I think it’s just been a very long week with the event starting sun night and too many late evenings. I have funny twinges towards the left of my uterus too. At least I think that’s where it’s is. Not cramps os stabbing pains just some weird sensation. Not very nice I have to say ans not making me feel any less pukey!

Hope everyone has a good day xx

Morning everyone
Sorry for no personal acknowledgements but I’m in a bit of a panic. I went to the loo 3/4 times last night whichbiant at all unusual but had quite a restless night so eventually got up about 20 mins ago. Went to the loo and usual white discharge from the pessaries I took before bed. Made a drink, fed thand cat so literally just let walking about for 10 mins then went to the loo to do pessary before laying down for a while and there was a load of pale pink discharge which I’ve never had before. Th rational part of me is telling myself not to worry as I don’t have any cramps or anything but I’m so worried this is all about to fall apart. My first point of contact is meant to b my gp but of course it’s te weekend. I think I might give it half an hour then call the nhs line or sth. What do you think? Hello thank you all xx

Hi Bossy, Hi Mrs C,

Thank you for your messages earlier and sorry not to come back to you sooner. Things took a bit of a turn about half an hour after my message this am when I went to the loo and wiped and had red blood. If spoken to NHS via 111 already and a GP was to call me in 24h unless anything changed. So called again and they had me go straight to our hosp in reading. When we got there the imaging dept was closed and it was just an on call dr service but not maternity spec. A slightly doddery nurse took my blood pressure, said thrrbyrine test was still showing strong positive but evidence of a mild UTI. She then got her Doppler but couldn’t find a heartbeat which she said we shouldn’t be too alarmed about but you can probably imagine how reassuring that was. Then saw a dr who asked a few questions and called the gynae dept but the on call registrar didn’t know how to use a sonogram machine. So basically there was no one qualified to do an ultrasound in the whole of total berks maternity block?!

So an hour later we were at future babies in reading and they managed to scan me. We saw the baby who has grown a lot and actually she said measuring 12w when we’re only 11w5d. She said heartbeat was fine too. So all a bit of. Storm in a tea cup. I think I’d have been ok with the pink cm but the blood sent me over the edge  :(

All good though. Everyone said there’s no harm in multiple scans as thatvwas à concern since we have s private scan with harmony results on tues in london then nhs scan on wed back in reading. She also said that while she didn’t have the right setting on her machine the NT looked thin but we’re not counting our chickens until we get the full results back on tues.

Also when I got home there’s were letters for a consultant appt on 6 Feb and 20 weeks scan on 22 ham but that’s actually 21w. I’m actually wondering whether they might have miscalculated the weeks as it goes over the cal page if you follow. Will ask them when I’m at the hosp on wed. Mrs C, yours is about two weeks earlier right at the same hosp and you’re a week ahead of me?

Thank you ago for your concern and encouraging words. So glad we have each other in this!

Enjoy your weekends. Hope everyone else is doing ok xx

Morning All,

Hope you had a good day yesterday. Thank you for the kind messages. No more bleeding and feeling better today - nausea aside - the fact that the cat is my little office assistance and curled up on the chair next to me and seemed to have wind earlier did not help ;D

Lily, I don't know much about DE but re the NIPT test, at my comm midwife appt she said the NHS were going to roll it out this year but it has been delayed. Even then I suspect it will be like everything else NHS-related in that it will be a bit of PC lottery. If you're in the London area I can recommend the Fetal Medicine Centre on Harley Street. It was mentioned to me by both a colleague, the Lister and my fert acupuncturist. We took a package where at 10w they'll do a viability scan, combined blood plus harmony test, then two weeks later you return for the results in person and they do the NT scan too. If at that stage there are any anomalies they will also do amnio or CVS for no further charge and they offer counselling. The complete package for all of the above is £400. It's run by some renowned fetal medicine dr and the clinic is a not for profit charity. Details here https://www.fetalmedicine.com/harmony-test

LXP - just as a reassurance, I also couldn't get a MW appt until 10+1 but they scheduled me in v soon after for the dating scan. I'm sure it will be ok. To be fair we went ahead and booked privately as by 12+4 we were going to be out of the country for 2.5 weeks but as long as you are going to be here I am sure they will fit you in within the necessary date requirement window.

Stacey - how are you feeling? Better I hope? So nice to have time to relax at the weekend at least.

Mrs FW - I know I can't believe some of us are at the 12w stage and beyond! It's like a dream come true. I will be crossing everything that all goes well for you today and your little beans are wriggling away happily. So nice they have one another for company :). What time is your appt? I think you already got your harmony results right and they were all clear? Will be thinking of you.

Bossy, when are you expecting the call with your HT results? Thinking of you and hope you get the all clear v soon? Scan on Thursday? Hope that comes around super fast.

AFM - we now seem to have three scans in the space of 5 days which even by my paranoid standards seems slightly unnecessary ;D We obv has the reassurance scan on Sat which was positive (and necessary as I honestly don't think I would have slept until tomorrow) but not getting too carried away before we have the more detailed scans this week. Harmony, combined blood results and NT scan tomorrow in London then NHS scan in Reading on Wed. I asked the NHS if I could just give them all the Fetal medicine centre evidence but they want to do their own scan which is fair enough although I did chuckle when they said they needed to check baby was in the right place, heartbeat etc. when we'll be on our 6th scan by then! I've been reassured by multiple sources that the multiple scans won't do any harm but will ask everyone to do whatever they need to do quickly!

On a completely separate note and I'm caveating this by stating that I had to be organised due to holidays but have put it all a way in a bag until tomorrow... my clothes are getting tight but nowhere nr. justified to buy new stuff as still too early but will be busting out of my clothes on hols. My acupuncturist recommended bump bands. They are just stretchy deep bands that sit from top to bottom of tum to cover the top of skirts/trousers that you can't do up! Tried on in shop and absolutely perfect in-between solution for anyone in a similar dilemma! You seem to be able to get them in various places but I got a pack of two in mothercare for £10 and they're fine. https://www.mothercare.com/maternity-briefs/bump-bands---2-pack/LNB372.html

Right lots to do so better crack on. Sending everyone lots of love. Mrs FW please let us know ASAP how you get on xx
