Can anyone recommend a fertility counsellor in the north-west. I've contacted Care who say I cant access their counsellor until I have been accepted for treatment (I'm currently awaiting checks at Bolton but husband has low sperm count so I know we will be referred for ICSI, just a case of waiting). I'm willing to pay but would like someone who is experienced in understanding the anger that comes with experiencing infertility.

Any tips?

Hi NorthernBlue,

I would really recommend looking at the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA). You can search for a counsellor using your post code to find one near you. All the BICA counsellors are experienced in matters related to infertility and treatment as well as relationship issues etc.

If you know the name of the counsellor at the CARE clinic you could find her on the BICA directory and probably see her privately? Sorry, I'm not sure which area you live in.

Thanks so much for your reply Daisy. I had a look on that website but was also wondering if anyone had any personal recommendations? I've chosen counsellors online before as haven't had great success at it!

Could you let me know which areas are possible for you and I will do a bit of research and get back to you?  I do know someone who has some personal recommendations but she would need to know which areas you can easily get to.

ha, sorry Daisy I completely forgot to mention  . To be honest I'm willing to commute but I'm in north manchester. I also quite like the idea of telephone counselling. I'm considering not having the care therapist, I absolutely know that what I'm experiencing is normal but it would be quite nice to just be able to let rip with someone without worrying that they may think I'm a crazy lady and take the ICSI away from me!

I'd be interests in knowing of any personal recommendations for specialist counselling in the North West as well ... I am going for treatment abroad but would find it helpful to speak to somebody confidentially. I have had a look at listed counsellors but impossible to know whose good and whose not! I've had counselling before but not somebody sho specialises in infertility.

It seems so hard to access this there if you choose to go abroad so any help gratefully received. Liverpool women's and Manchester Care were understandably not interested as I wasn't going with them for the whole thing.

Hoping somebody's had some experience with this

Hi,

I would search on the British Infertility Counselling website (BICA). Put in your postcode. I just did a search on the HFEA find a clinic section on website. There are quite a few ivf clinics in the North West. I would call the main ones and ask for counsellor's name. You can then ask if they have a private practice (most counsellors do) and you can then contact them directly as a private client.

You can be a private client of any of the CARE or any other IVF clinic counsellors. Just ring the clinic and tell them that you would like to be a private patient of the counsellor and they should give you contact details.

Thank you so much, I previously contacted care and they said their counsellor will only see people currently getting treatment at care. I've tried to choose therapists in the past from websites and had a couple of pretty poor experiences which makes me reluctant to just choose one myself
