Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if there are women out there taking a more holistic approach to conceiving.  I have been TTC for about 18 months now and recently was told by my specialist that my FSH levels were too high 13ish, one was 24! I'm 38 and apparantly peri-menopausal.  An awful word, and an awful blow!  I also have a blocked fallopian tube.  I than went to see a Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist who diagnosed me as, yes, having a blockage of some sort and put me on Chinese herbs and weekly acupuncture.  He said he has known women to conceive with an FSH like mine.  Again it's the whole body not just one symptom.
The difference is amazing, in my whole outlook.  I feel so much more possitive.  There is a chanel that goes from the heart to the uterus and is very important in conception.  This can get blocked also making it more difficult to conceive.  Anyhow I've been on herbs for 5 weeks and particularily this week have felt things shifting down there.  The herbs also help with this.  He says it's all about helping my chances increase as much as they can.
I'm feeling so optimistic infact my period is due and I feel no symptoms at all, the herbs were supposed to take away period pains, but I could even be pregnant!
I was wanting to here from others who are also working with complimentary practitioners as I've heard so many good reports, especially about acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
Good luck and love to everyone!  Jeza

Hi Jeza,

I had to reply because I am in a very similar position to you and have the same philosophy. I have endo (just had an operative lap) and got low AMH on a test result (which is indicative of low ovarian reserve) and the hospital has suggested we do IUI followed by IVF, but we have decided to follow alternative therapies first. I am seeing a Chinese herbal medicine practitioner like you.

A lot of things that have happened over the past year have made me see how my body is really tied in with my mind as well - so I am looking at that side of things too. This time last year I was really cynical about anything like that but for various reasons my mind has been opened!

Like you I am feeling more positive and a lot more peaceful about things. I don't know where it will all lead and I know it isn't the right thing for everyone, but I feel that it is the right thing for me to be doing at the moment.

All the best and look forward to hearing how you are getting on,
x

Hi & welcome :)

Have a little read of some of the threads on this Complementary Therapies board as I'm sure you'll find many of them interesting.

I'd been having acupuncture since August 2005 and had used chinese herbs as well (although never at same time as when having fertility treatment/prescribed fertility drugs as they are advised against due to risk of interfering and reacting).  I was prescribed clomid for 6mths in 2005 to help boost - I ovulate naturally with no problem but theory being release more eggs then more target for the sperm !  Sadly no BFPs despite conceiving 3 times naturally beforehand.  We then moved on to IVF and I didn't have acupunture during my 1st treatment but I did through my 2nd & 3rd fresh cycles as well as through both FETs (frozen embryo transfer using embies from 1st IVF).  I decided not to have acupuncture through this current (4th fresh) IVF and as yet, outcome unknown as I'm in 2ww and test Friday.

We did get chemical pregnancies (very early miscarriages) for both FETs.....not sure if acupuncture helped.

I am still a believer in acupuncture, despite not having it this treatment....partly just wanted to try it without again and also financially as I'm spending a huge amount on acupuncture...and that's on top of all the IVF !

I do have ad hoc reflexology as well.

If nothing else, I find the acu and reflex help relax and de-stress me !

Anyway, do have a read of the threads on this board.

Good luck
Natasha

Hi

Glad to see others trying this route too.
I am currently in my 6th month of accupunture and chinese herbs and things look much more hopeful. I feel less stressed in myself and much calmer about the whole process of trying to concieve. We have been trying for nearly 7 years and are unexplained.
Since doning TCM I have seen great improvements in my BTT chart.... it now finally resembles the examples you see I the books rather than an eratic line. I also feel so much better in myself, much less prone to cough, cold s and other bugs which is a huge bonus being a teacher and around bugs all day.

Good luck to you and I look forward to reading about your progress.

Hi There!
I'm really excited as i went for some holistic healing yesterday! We have been trying for 4 years now with the last year having 3 failed attempts at ivf. So i decided to try something different. I did have acupuncture along with my last cycle. I have severe scars and adhesions on both tubes and consultant says non operational and ivf only option. My fsh is also high at 12.5 . But i was recommended this holistic lady who has a 98% success rate!My husband is really cynical about whole thing hocus pocus etc ! But she talks allot of sense! she has prescribed me manuka honey +25 strength and lots of vitamins and minerals which reduce scar tissue! and also i had lovely massage and she re aligned my back! and and reminded me of the power of the mind! It wasn't just about fertility it was the whole self. Quite pricey but a fraction of the price of ivf! I have allways believed in positive thinking but sometimes the medical side of ivf gets me down like "too high fsh , or scarred tubes " almost focussing in the negative! can't be good can it?!
so good luck with yours and keep positive ! we can do it!!!!!
thinking of you
