Hi!
I've just joined the site, mainly to visit the parenting forum but I have been through my own ttc nightmare and may be able to offer some hope for many of the people currently struggling to have their families.
I started ttc approximately five years ago when I was 35. After about 6 months of trying we started with investigations and apart from my dh fluctuating sperm count they could find nothing wrong. We went for tx and found that I didn't produce many eggs so couldn't get to ec. We tried again and again I only produced 2 follies so no ec again. Had my amh tested to show it was low, (about 5 I think). I was told to forget about having my own kids as it was likely it wouldnt happen. I can't begin to say how devastating this was to me. I was told to go for egg donation. But I figured that I had to get to the point of ec so I could at least say I'd tried with my own eggs. I had acupuncture, changed my eating habits and took as much stress out of my life as possible.  I feel pg naturally within a month of doing this, but unfortuantely i miscarried at 5 weeks. We went for what I had decided to be my last go at IVF and produced 5 eggs, 3 of which fertilised and two were put back. I got my bfp and had my dd!we then decided we would not use any protection and see what would happen and low and behold, 7 months later I fell naturally pg and had my son six months ago!
So, I hope that my story will prove to give some hope to the ladies out there who are struggling through this awful situation. I seriously thought I was going to be childless which I just had not thought possible. I am very very lucky.  :)

wow, that is a lovely and inspiring story. I ahve 4 children, 3 of which are grown up and one little girl aged 4. I am just 40 and have been ttc for about 2yrs now. I have recently had an appointment with my gynae who told me that my amh is 5.6 which is considered low and that the few remaining eggs that I may have may not ben of any good quality, so I came out absolutely gobsmacked. I dont think anyone actually beleives it will happen to them until it does !!
So, being unable to afford any fertility treatment I am just plodding on with the hope it may happen, but deep down I dont think it will, but after readin your post - there is still a glimmer of hope, I will try acupuncture, did you tell them what you wanted it for?

Hi! Yes, I told the acupuncturist exactly what I was doing and she tailored her treatment towards that. I've no idea if it had any effect but I would say that it helped learn to relax and using breathing techniques to help with any uncomfort. When I had my egg collection the eggs that they got were all totally fine so I think myself it's a lot to do with quantity of eggs rather than the quality. I think it's just the old adage whereby the older we get the longer it will take, so I wouldn't give up hope yet at all, just that it may take a lot longer to happen. There's a good book called stay fertile longer which deals with older ladies! I don't remember who the author is.
I'm glad you found some hope from reading my story. Good luck!
