Hi,

I am new in the forum and found already lots of interesting information.
We've been trying for 6 years already (unexplained) and started IUI at the UCL 1 1/2 years ago. I became pg after 4th treatment but mc @ 7 weeks.
Hade the same symptomes after the next IUI , but they suddenly stopped and I got my period as usual.
My consultant said the only chance we have left now is IVF and he transferred us to Hammersmith.

I am now doing all tests (blood, scan, xray) at the Hammersmith for IVF but I feel this is not the problem, since I felt pregnant before.

I've heard from more and more friends and here in the forum, that one can also be immune (sorry for being so naive). Can somebody explain to me, how and where I can get these tests done?
To talk to a consultant at either the UCL or Hammersmith is difficult, since you have to wait 3-4 months for an appointment.
I'd really like to find out if this all makes sense before I start IVF.

Many thanks

Hi Katja

I too am just learning about immune issues. I know that the ARGC in Upper Wimpole Street take these issues very seriously, and I have also read about Dr Beer, an American doctor who specialises in this area. He holds a clinic in London every month apparently.

Perhaps ARGC might be your best bet if you are going privately anyway?

Best of luck.

Many thanks Vic!

I am still on NHS treatment but since I get more and more unpatient about long waiting times just to speak to a consultant, we really consider going privat.

Thanks again

Hi katja,

I am currently having IVF at Hammersmith and the delays are terrible. The consultants there have an active disbelief in Immunology issues as I have spoken to them about this.

They work closely with St Mary's in Paddington which has publically spoken out on Immunology & m/c.

One possibility is the "recurrent miscarriage" clinic at St Mary's which does carry out some tests but not the specific NK stuff that Dr Beer talks about and the ARGC will investigate.

Here's a link to Dr Beer's website for London.

Here's a link to the recurrent miscarriage clinic

Hope that this helps.

With kindest regards

Hi and thanks again,

I had a look at the St Mary's website and it looks again like months of waiting (you wait 6 weeks for your blood results and then again for an appointment), but at least they seem to take the issue serious. I will also check the ARGC. Not sure if I can have the tests done in one clinic and IVF in another.

My next appointment at Hammersmith's is in April and I will definitelly raise the issue, though your experiences didn't raise my hopes of success. But the information that they might refer me to St Mary's is already good news.

Best regards

Hi,

Not sure if i can be of help. i visited St mary's around 4 years ago and they test for antiphospholipids, thyroid etc. i was negative to everything they tested for. i mentioned dr beer and they do not believe in him. Mr taranissi at ARGC has had Dr beer use his clinic since last may and has been working very closely with him. When I found this out I went to see Dr beer at ARGC but with the intention of not necessarily cycling there. I have been fortunate as my m/c history must have been immune linked as with the help of IVIG I have seen h/bs for the 1st time in 6 pregnancies and have got as far as 22 weeks! This has been achieved via IVIG. Dr Beer does not have the written stats to impress the UK medical profession but time does not stand still for us ladies. therefore if you want to investigate for immune issues you won't get much help from UK clinics. having said that my clinic were happy to do my IVF with my Dr beer trt running alongside and they have got me pg 2 out of 2 attempts.

Hope this helps
Love
helen
