Hi Im new

I have similar circumstances. Im 43 and have 2 children from a previous relationship. Im now in a new relationship and we have been ttc for the last 2.5 years (he doesnt have any children). We have been complacent thinking it will happen particularly as I have already had children. But we thought we'd better seek help and went for consultation. Had usual blood tests etc and my FSH is high at 18.9. Our next appointment is going to be about advising us on egg donation. But we want to try with mine first if anyone will let us. Am new to all this jargon, tests etc! Have pulled my finger out in the last 2 weeks, Im seeing an accupuncturist, taking some foul herbal teas and also am dosing myself up on green tea, agnus castus etc, etc.....We have our appt with Bourn on Monday but im not optimistic about what they will advise us to do, so am going to contact Lister as others on this site seem to recommend it for people with high FSH and of course my age! I did wonder if the FSH result only countered if it was taken on Day2 only? I have had lower FSH results from blood tests in between my cycle, could these count at all?
Anyway, would value any support from women of my age and similar circumstances with any encouraging info/ advice/ guidance.

Many thanks

Hello Delhi, wlcome to Fertility Friends. :)

I am sorry you have high FSH. I would imagine, given your age that it's probably about right (although I am not an expert) but I have certainly seen ladies with higher FSH on here and have success lowering it. I think Wheatgrass is often mentioned, as acupuncture, as you say. Generally your FSH should be done anywhere from day 1 to 5 but, I would imagine the earlier you do it the lower it will be, but you're really not going to make a huge impact on it over those few days. The general consensus seems to be that below 10 is good and, actually 18 isn't massively high when you look at what some ladies on here have so take some heart from that!
Yes, the Lister are very good at finding a regime that means you can try for IVF with your own eggs and they don't and won't give up unless it is hopeless. It's impossible to say how you will respond to the stimulation drugs until you start them but, even if you get just one or two embryos, they will certainly try their best to get you to the 2ww. Obviosuly I am a little biased abotut he Lister, as I had treatment there and was successful but I think they are a fab clinic and you could do a lot worse. ;)

Hi Caz

many thanks for the response, its good to have a little hope & not entirely unrealistic. FSH has ranged from 8.4 to 18.6 depending on the time the blood test was taken during my cycle - so am trying to be positive and I just want an opportunity to have a go!
We have an appt Monday with Bourn  but Im convinced the Lister is the way to go, another friend who is a Doctor and has gone through IVF himself says the leading specialist there has done some ground breaking work, so is clearly a forward thinker. Anyway fingers crossed and I wont be giving up just yet.!

Hi Delhi

I just wanted to let you know I'm coming up to 42 ,& I will be having tx at the Lister in july with my own eggs. They was very encouraging & not bothered by my age, unlike the years of other dr's & consultants & being given the d/e speach by my previous clinic. ^bigbad^

I am also on the herbs & accupuncture , not very nice is it? ;D & I will be having some immune test ,not at dr's request  but our own ,just so we know !
Any time drop us a line ,if I can help I will .

take care & good luck in your future tx :)
