Hi everyone,

Back on the forum again after a long time away.  Today have finally been given the ok to be referred for NHS IVF and have been given a choice of Wessex Fertility or Sailsbury Fertility.  As we aren't likely to be able to afford to try again privately if it doesn't work out I'm now in a panic about choosing the right one and would welcome any feedback positive or negative on people's experiences.

I've had several friends go through IVF over the years and most of them took 2 or 3 attempts and it was only on the last attempts when the clinics let the embryos go to Blasto stage that they were successful.  Do either of these clinics allow development to Blasto on cycle one to help your chances?

I'm 38, partner 44, been trying about 4 years now, diagnosed PCOS but ovaries good apparently.  Hubby has lots of good swimmers.  We are in Farnham, Surrey.

Desperate for this to work as we are quite literally the ONLY couple in our peer group and family groups not to have children and cannot fathom going through life without a family of my own.....

Man I sound really depressing here don't I  :)  Not really - very excited about the IVF and any advice on anything people have done to make it more successful would be great!!!

Good luck to everyone!

^hello^ Kiwitk

back to FF :)

Great news on being given the OK to go ahead and be referred.

Have you checked out the PCOS Board ~ http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=13.0 I am sure the ladies won't mind you joining them :)

Also the best place to get advice on the clinics that you are looking at would be the Locations Board ~ http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=218.0 Again am sure the ladies won't mind you asking questions about the clinics that you are considering.

Wishing you all the best

Hello kiwitk, I hope you don't mind I have moved your topic here where I think you will get a better response from those who have used the clinics you are asking about.

For an idea of general success rates, the best place to look in the HFEA website. Here is a link to both the Wessex and Salisbury clinic's statistics:

Wessex: http://guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/pdf/0057.pdf

Salisbury Centre: http://guide.hfea.gov.uk/guide/pdf/0197.pdf

However success rates are not necessarily the whole picture and it is important to find out other things about the clinics - i.e. what they are like, how adaptable their treatment protocols are, do they operate at weekends, do they do ICSI or freezing embryos, do they offer counselling... lots to think about:

You might want to pop along to the Wessex and the Salisbury centre threads and ask the members who post there for opinions / information. They can be found here:

Wessex: http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=135459.0

Sailsbury: http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=124357.0

Or you could also take a look at the clinic reviews.

Wessex: http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=81728.0
http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=30988.0

There doesn't appear to be any reviews for the Sailisbury centre yet but that doesn't mean to say the patients there don't think highly of it (maybe nobody here has got around to writing one yet so perhaps you can encourage them to do so! :) )

Wishing you lots of luck with your decision and with your treatment cycle. ^goodluck^

Hi Kiwitk,

We are currently having tx at Salisbury Fertility Centre and would highly recommend them. We've been going there since 2005 and,as yet, have not been successful but that is not down to the clinic. They don't do blastocyst culture though. One of the things I personally like about the clinic is that you don't just feel like another number. There is a very personal feel to your treatment and you have the same Consultant the whole way through. I'm not sue what else you'd like to know so ask away. If you want to PM feel free or pop over and say hi on our thread, http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=124357.0, we are all very friendly. Good luck with it all.

Hi ladies,

Thanks so much for your replies, I've found a couple of other threads too where I've had some good advice so it's lovely to be back :)

I've decided to go for the Wessex for the treatment, for no good reason except that my gut is telling me too, so I'll be sending off my info this week and waiting to hear when I'll be able to get an appointment!  Very exciting to think that after 4 years we might actually have some success.

So after a long period of feeling down I am feeling SO up right now that something positive is going to happen, trying not to get my hopes too high because I know it can take several attempts when you are knocking on 40, but maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones???

Fingers crossed for everyone! I am hearing about so many people getting pregnant this year who have been trying for ages that I really believe that 2008 will be magical for all of us FF girls.

Be well and happy - thank you for your support  ^reiki^
