I have a question. I am 17 weeks on Wednesday and over the past couple of days about 4 people have commented on how small my belly is which is getting me a little worried that the bubs arn't growing as they should. Most of my pants don't fit me anymore and you can definately tell I am pregnant. What was everyone else like at 17 weeks? I have a scan next Monday so hopefully that will put my mind at rest.
I am 18 weeks now and when I went to the midwife last week she said I was very small as does everyone else, however in the last week I seem to be expanding and have a definite basketball in my stomach in the mornings, and most of my clothes are now too tight. I don't think it matters what size you are as long as the babies are well.
How is everyone else?? It has been very quiet here recently??
I am off to Moscow for a week of business meetings today and really feel very unenthusiastic about the whole travellling lark at the moment, also trying to make my business clothes cover stomach as I don't want people to know I am pregnant... great everyone is just going to think I have piled on weight!!!
Debbie - I have been told through most of my pregnancy that I have a "neat" bump. I think most people expect you to have a bump literally twice the size of a single, but mine hasn't been. It certainly is a goodly size now, but not massive. Don't worry though, those little ones will be putting their weight on. Remember at your stage they are only going to be about a pound each, if that yet. They still have most of their growing to do - and so have you!!! Thanks for asking after me
Andy - I hope your company aren't expecting you to do much more travelling after this trip. I really noticed the exhaustion from the size kicking in from about 24 weeks onwards, and you are not far off that! Are you still in your normal clothes?
Trudy - thanks for your generous offer!!!
Have I missed something? Has Westies had her two yet... if not she must be ready to pop any day?!
AussieMeg - you are so good to be doing the list when I know you are extremely busy and not feeling too hot just at the moment!! If you want me to help out or take over for a while during the move etc., just let me know!
Well, I'm still feeling fine with my two safely tucked inside. They are moving a little less now, I guess they are just running out of room. I have been called back to the hospital yet again for two more blood tests. Platelets again and now liver too - whoopeedoo! Nevermind. Should only have about 4 weeks maximum left now, so looking forward to the finish line! I completed my last order on the internet today for a nursing cushion. Found this great looking number from http://www.tommiguard.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=1
Shelly from Twin Mums recommended an inflatable one, so had a look around at all the options and reckoned this one looked okay!! Once that arrives we are all ready to go.... can't wait
We have our last class tomorrow in our antenatal group on "The First Few Days". DH is coming along too which is great!
Very quiet here at the moment. I am in Moscow and very bored although the weather is beautiful. My luggage has not arrived so I went off to meetings today in grotty cut off pants and denim jacket with no laptop and no make up!!! I usually keep all my luggage with me but because I didnt want to lug it around I checked it all in.... Typical!!!
Fone I have a trip to Tokyo in a couple of weeks (21 weeks preg.) and then that is going to be my last trip for work anyway... we are still tossing up whether to move home to NZ in 6 weeks or so.. we had better hurry up and make a decision that's for sure!!
fab news joy, blimey your hospital is looking after you well we have our anomaly scan in 2 weeks havent been seen since 12 weeks , have to say dont know when this second wind comes people keep telling me i look really well but i am permantely knackered!
Helen - Hmmmmmm, extra care from hossie, but only because I made a big fuss in light of my previous obstetric history. Believe me - it was not offered, and I had to make a big song and dance, and two formal complaints to get v. close monitoring - which, to date, has not always happened.
Great news Joy about your two little boys!! I loved finding out cause then you start planning all sorts of things... well I did anyway! Glad they are doing so well and that the hospital are looking after you!
Helen - I didn't get any scans in between my 12 week and 20 week scan and it seemed an age in between. Once you get closer to the date you will be seen much more. I have scans every 2 or 4 weeks and midwife appointments or antenatal clinics every week.
I'm afraid I never hit the really "blooming" stage in terms of energy, I have felt pretty tired throughout. I suppose having twins is such an exersion on the body!
Hope the rest of you twin bumpers are okay, everyone is rather quiet at the moment.
I haven't been on for ages and see we have a new home! Glad you are all doing OK.
I wouldn't worry about not showing at 16/17 weeks, I didn't have much of a bump until week 17/18 and then it suddenly exploded!I had to keep explaining that I was pregnant to people, and then that i was having twins, I'm sure they didn't believe me.However now things have changed! In fact when I saw my midwife last week at 23 weeks i measured equivalent of 29 weeks if I was having 1! eek! When I had my 20 week scan I was shocked that she was scanning so high up( almost under my boobs)...where has the rest of my body/organs gone?
Am still feeling pretty good, just hope it continues for the next 12/13weeks, had a few back problems but to be honest my back was not good before I got pg. I have found swimming excellent, and its soo nice to feel light again! I was still feeling really tired but the results of my latest blood count showed that my anemia had got worse instead of better so they have upped my iron and it has really helped, so if you are still feeling really knackered make sure you keep getting yours tested!
Congratulations on your two boys Joy. We are having a 4D scan on Sat and I am sure I will be peeking, but still don't want to know for sure! Its a bit like rattling your Christmas pressie but still guessing whats inside! They have told me that they will stay well away from that area. I cant believe we will actually get to see what they look like!
I didn't have a scan between my 12wk and 20wk, and next one is due at 28wks when I see the consultant. I saw my midwife at 10, 17 and 23 weeks and next at 27 weeks. It doesn't seem often enough to me, but I think that we are so used to all the checking with IVF it probably seems worse.
Oh well off to do a little more painting, nursery all done just revamping our bedroom now. Then thats it! waiting for the nursery furniture which will be another 6weeks, and then I can get spending on all the other stuff!! Cant wait! I keep looking at the nursery and it really does seem surreal that there is a babies room in our house. Does anyone else feel like this? I guess after all this while I never thought I would see the day!
Take care Everyone
Lots of Love
Where is everyone?? It's been so quiet here lately.
Sue - Glad to know I'm not the only one who has exploded in size lately. Think we're due around the same time. My bump has got so big lately but I think I've started to put on a fair bit of weight in general, need to cut down on all the takeways that I'm so fond of Do you have any/many stretch marks yet? I had none until about a week ago and now they're really bad. I fully understand about the sore back issue, mine is really starting to ache, not low down where I expected it but level with my bra strap. Is that a common place to feel it?
Orla/Sue - re:back problems, might be worth asking your midwife, but I know my hospital does special physio sessions for pregnant ladies, just a couple of hours every three or four weeks. You might need a referral from your midwife?
Have been lurking, but not posting for a while here.
Reading about all you ladies "suddenly exploding" is quite exciting I can't wait!
Fone - good luck with the blood tests tomorrow! BTW, thanks for lending me that book - really helpful and funny too. I just got a book called "How to have a healthy twin pregnancy" and that's helpful but very American and I keep being drawn to the bad stuff!!
Joy - congrats on two little boys!
Orla - sounds like referred pain, where your lower back is the problem but the upper back is over compensating. Have you tried a chiropractor who specialises in pregnancy?
Sue - sorry to hear your anaemia got worse but glad they are keping an eye on you. Swimming sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately I'm so covered in bruises from daily heparin injections, I'd feel really self conscious! Probably won't care by the time I have a huge bump though! (Won't be able to see them!!)
Andy - very impressed with your travelling ability. Tired me out just reading your post! Has your luggage turned up yet?
Debbie - how was your scan on Monday?
Helen - sorry to hear you are so tired. We all know how you feel!
Jelly - how are you getting on? our nuchal scan is soon isn't it? Good luck.
Hi to all the other twin bumpers.
Well I'm on flipping bed rest again. Feeling pretty frantic, just feels like deja vu. I was just getting used to this pregnancy being totally different from the last one and, bang, a nice fresh bleed to keep me awake at night worrying. This one can't be blamed on an internal scan though, it happened Tuesday lunchtime and I came home straight away. It was a one off and all settled down until mid morning today - much lighter though. They won't scan me until tomorrow as that was scheduled anyway (and let's face it, it won't make any difference).
They keep asking if I'm in pain and I don't know what to say. I've had stretching odd pains for weeks (pretty normal), and being constipated adds it's own discomfort doesn't it? It's horribly uncomfortable but I'm not rolling around the floor clutching my stomach! I wasn't in pain last time until I went into prem labour.
Anyone else have an achy tummy (not just lower around the pubic bone but also over the stomach area, where I guess my colon and stomach is). It has started to pop out more so I guess it's all normal?
Anyway, sorry to add a less than joyous post on here, just at a loose end!
Sue I know about the exploding stomach thing I was as flat as could be until last week and this week I am massive and my tummy button is poking out -- yuuukkk
Looking forward to 20 week scan the week after next as really want to know if boys or girls.
I have been having hideous back problems and down backside and leg and couldn't walk for 2 days, now have to wear a very attractive piece of tubigrip all the time goes from under my boobs to top of my thighs, also have to stop jogging, cut back on spinning classes and genrally ease back on the execrciese except swimming and walking which I find really boring... I was given an appointment at physio by midwife also.
Well must go to next meeting, luggage finally arrived so look vaguely respectable today
Love from Andy in hot and sunny Moscow
joy, well done you for making a fuss terrible that you have to have to say, we arent going to ask the sex of the babies, we are just going to be suprised
andy99 i dont know how you cope with all the travelling makes want to lie down just thinking about it lol
caroline sorry that you are on bed rest again its so worrying to have a bleed, hope feel better soon
must admit have exploded a bit myself can say i definately have a bump , hope everyone else is ok and good luck for scans appointments etc
I like the sound of exploding tummies it made me laugh!
Caroline I have been bleeding alot too. I am also on heparin and aspirin (are you an ARGG girl by any chance?) I bled at 5,6,7,12 and 13 weeks (this week). It is always really worrying and upsetting as you are convinced you must have lost at least one of them. With this latest bleed I went to Early Pregnancy Assessment clinic at my local hospital which you can ring yourself and book in.
I started to cry when the scan showed both were ok and the radiologist told me off and said " you'll have to stop that. I cant scan you if you cry- your tummy moves up and down" . I couldnt stop though. They are so precious and when you think you have lost them and know you may never get another chance it is really hard.
She couldnt see where the bleeding was coming from. Neither placentas had any blood behind them. The nurse I saw afterward thought it was probably hormonal from my period being due naturally at 8 and then 12 weeks.
I rang ARGC to ask if I should stop heparin and aspirin because of the bleeding (obviously they make you bleed/bruise more easily as I am sure you know). They said continue the drugs and that it is common to bleed with twins and it may well happen all the way through.
I dont think my nerves are up to it!
I dont bother to rest now when it happens. I have already had so much time off work, if I want to go back afterwards (unfortunately we will need the money) I need to stay on their good side. I dont do anything too energetic but all the research I have seen says it doesnt make any difference at all how much you do. If you are going to bleed you will, if you are going to miscarry as pregnancy not viable you will and it is all down to nature.
Gravity does come in to it though. If you lie down the blood is there but pools, if you stand up it is still there but works it way out!
I do get funny stretchy/period/wind type tummy pains.
Well I am feeling better day by day, and now haven't been sick for 2 weeks - yippee so the 2nd trimester is definitely what they say - BRILLIANT!!
Am nearly back to my pre-pregnancy weight now, seem to be putting loads on this week, probably all the chocolate I am eating.
Everyone keeps saying I look about 6 months, but suppose with twins it's to be expected. My bump seems to be growing daily (is this happening to anyone else)?
Also does anyone get kinda period type of pains then next day look bigger - is this normal
Dear Country girl - thank you for putting my mind at rest a bit. I'm sorry you've had such a long haul of it. I got advice from our EPAC unit yesterday but they didn't see the point in scanning me when I had a scheduled one for tomorrow. My twin pregnancy book does say that a third of twin pregnancies involve bleeding with no ill effect, I just need to have some faith in my body, I guess. DH and I will probably cry at scan tomorrow too!.
Lisa - congrats on not being sick for 2 weeks
Take good care.
PS I'm not an ARGC girl but have "sticky blood" diagnosed after my m/c - love that heparin eh!
