Hi There

I suffer from severe endo and had a laser and diathermy lap 2 weeks ago.  Before surgery, the doctor told me they were taking another blood sample for cross match as my hemoglobin was low and a transfusion may be required.  (I didn't have one).  She asked if I suffered with heavy periods - which I do.

What does this mean?  I know what hemoglobin does and that my periods may be the cause but should I be taking iron supplements to sort it out of could it have been temporary?  I eat a healthy and varied diet so I don't miss out on getting iron from various food.  The doctor didn't suggest I do anything so I'm not sure if I should.

Any advice would be very helpful.

Firstly I think you need to know how low it is. I don't think it can be too low as they would have done a transfusion if needed. It may be that an iron supplement would be helpful, check with your surgeon.
