Blooming 'eck, hard work finding you girls now! Why did you get moved from the ICSI board?
I'm one of the original girls from 2005, periodically I drop in, but mostly stick to the MF board as there are still a few old timers there.
As ever, I bow to the courage of those of you on this thread.
Frangipane, I have a couple of friends with polycystic ovaries, one with some symptoms of the syndrome, one not. Your history sounds very similar to theirs. It seems those with PCO tend to be over responsive to stims (some drugs more than others) and egg/embryo quality compromised as a result.
Agree that would be worth having the work up done ahead of FET. If there is a thyroid problem then I understand you do need treatment not just to reduce the risk of miscarriage but because the mother is the only source of thryoid hormones for the baby in first trimester.
My friend with PCOS after 3 failed IVFs and a miscarriage following FET, was finally successful age 39 with Metformin/IUI/injectables. She's still trying for a 2nd. Chicago bloods revealed nothing untoward other than slightly raised NK's (think CD19), which they would treat with steroids rather than IVIG/intralipids. However, George Ndukwe did put her on thyroxine for subclinical hypothyroidism so I'm guessing ARGC et al do similar.
Hope your doc gets back to you soon.
Bluey all best wishes for your pregnancy.
*NGU* Ugh, my post just crossed with yours. I am so very sorry for your loss, words not enough.
Btw, Frangipane, if you haven't read the Immune FAQ section yet, then have a look before you meet with your doc (though bear in mind, s/he may not be on board and/or informed with immune therapy). Can affect pregnancy outcome from implantation onwards.
It's beautifully written. Agate, times a gazillion.
Jax - are you gearing up for round 13? You are amazing!!!!!! Are you doing something different this time? I know what you mean about conflicting advice, it's so hard to know what to do! I wish you all the best of luck with your next round.
NGU - I am so so sorry. I was hoping to hear more good news as its so conforting to hear good news on this thread. I can't believe it as all was looking so good! Sending you lots of hugs
Claudine - hi again, thanks for your note yesterday too. I have read so much now my mind is like mush! I spoke to my doc yesterday and I am scheduled for the 4 tests (FH, LH, prolactin and TSH) to start with and she said if TSH was abnormal she would do the others. I questioned her about PCOS and metformin and she wasn't convinced that I had this as I had no symptoms. She said that as we are doing IVF/ICSI then PCOS didn't really matter! however, I pushed for the tests and I shall also push for the treatment based on the results. I am also scheduled for a hysteroscopy after my next AF. All this before my FET. As I don't know when my next AF will be (the last time it took 3 months to come back) I am not sure when FET will be! As I am 40 in January, I think I may just plan and enjoy my 40th first instead of putting it on hold.
Oh no NGU, sweetheart I'm so sorry Glad you're having another go sending you a massive and too!
Hi Claudine, I remember you! Thanks for the links.
Frangi, good luck with the hysto, I think if you can cross off the things you've had done then it also makes you feel better as you know you're doing all you can iykwim? Yes no 13 I can't believe it myself I must be a lunatic! I had a hysto last month and toying with IVIG before tansfer, but difficult as I'm not sure which immune protocol I should follow!
Lincs, I remember you too, a much more original username than mine. Not sure why I decided to go with my real name, never occurred to me back in 2004 that I'd still be around the boards! As for getting back on the rollercoaster, if funds/relationship/emotional strength allow you to keep going, then that it's lucky number 13 for you.
Frangi, something else occurred to me as I was thinking about the friend with PCO (not PCOS, she is slim and has regular cycles). I can forward you her details on FF, she still posts but sporadically (like me). She also had an ectopic but her specialist managed to save the tube.
I don't know what happened to you following the ectopic and I don't know if you had an HSG as part of your work up in the UK before you started on this journey, but is it worth having another look in case there's been any subsequent damage? I understand there can be a build up of fluid that can be toxic to the embryo. I think the other ladies on this thread can comment better than I but thought it was worth mentioning.
As Lincs says, at this point, the more you can rule off your list the better you will feel.
You can get a lot out of the Table of Contents alone.
Goodness me, there's some big names in there. Zev Rosenwaks (director at Cornell, NY, where we went) and Mr T feature. Published this year.
Anyway, probably not much they can tell you girls, but I thought it would be of interest. Might go and post it on the "News" board. If nothing else, it sounds like a good comprehensive resource when the mind goes a bit blank.
Thanks Claudine! All useful stuff - I have been printing off all these posts so that I can refer back to them and now I have filing to do!! My IVF folder is rather thick now, need to start a new one.
I had a really crappy weekend (our weekend is Thursday and Friday), felt very low and like giving up on everything. It's not easy living in a country where there is no access to any kind of counselling at all or alcohol!!!! DH and I spent the whole weekend arguing about everything and I was a real cow to him!
Anyway, we made friends again but DH has banned me from FF and doing any research on IVF for 2 weeks as he thinks that I need to switch off from it for a bit. And he is right I think (but I didn't tell him that of course!)
So I am off to Dubai tomorrow for 6 days and I shall have a drink of champers for all of you!!!
I didn't realise a new thread had been started and lost you all since my last post!!
Jax - yes it was a Reprofit cycle (with full immunes again) - so broke after so many tx's these days I can't afford the Lister any more!! Especially not now I'm a student Good to hear you are gearing up for your next cycle - hopefully this will be the lucky one for you!!
NGU - I've had three betas now, fairly low start but doubling ok and Fridays was 794 at 15dp5dt. 6 week scan for heartbeat on Friday coming. I'm not excited yet, too much history but we'll see what the scan says. I'm so sorry to hear your news hun
Claudine - I remember you - I had a different username back then. good to hear from you.
Frangi - good luck with your hysto and have a fab time in Dubai!!
Bluey - so sorry to see your signature, it is all so hard sometimes. Take care. xx
NGU - you too, what a disappointment for you. You're so upbeat and optimistic but it is so sad to lose a little one. I hope you have a nice break from tx for a while. xxx
Jax - good to see you, and I see (am lurking on Serum) that moves are afoot! Good luck to you! xxx
Frangipane - how are you doing?
Claudine - I remember you from years ago too, I spent a lot of time reading about your USA experiences!
Well, we are off to Oz next week, leaving all this behind for a while. Have had no end of problems with the clinic I've been using so have not been able to do any treatment in preparation for a cycle when we get back, which was the original plan! Quite annoyed with them but what can you do? I am more annoyed at the decision being taken out of my hands really, rather than annoyed at the delay, so am sure I will get over it.definitely won't be cycling with said clinic though, that would be a step too far. Will either slink back to argc or possibly Serum.
Anyways, hope you're all well and have lovely christmas' (sp)?!
Hello Lovely Ladies
Ive been absent for a while since the last cycle - basically consultant feels id be better trying with doner eggs & suggested Valencia, they would treat me again, but feels this is my best chance. So back to 'normality' for a while & likely opt for valencia in a few months - eek. Its very quiet on here, hope you all are well, have a great xmas & hopefully we all have some luck in 2012
