DH2B has just received semen analysis results.  We have only seen a GP, and she cannot answer our questions.  What do these results me to us?  Do we need IUI? or whatever?  Could we conceive naturally.  My tests have come back ok.

Volume 2.5?
ph 7.8?
Count 91 million
Motility 25% a or 50% a&b
A Actively prog - 8%
B Slow prog - 14%
Non Prog - 16%
Immotile - 62%
ABN Forms - 29%

Help?  Many thanks

Firstly there are good numbers of sperm, (91 million). The abnormal forms are just about OK, though my main area of concern is the motility and that only 8% are actively progressing, and 14% slow. This all means that you can still conceive naturally but if you have beed trying for a while without success, it may well be advisable to go down the IUI route to maximise your chances as the preparation of the sperm would weed out just the best of the best to aid fertilisation.

Hi, my DH has had similar results and we were told that as I wasn't ovulating then it's impossible to know if the sperm is able to fertilise an egg or not as they have seen fertilisation with worse results than ours. However, if you are ovulating and it's been a year then IUI sounds like a good idea. However, it would be a good idea to request another semen analysis in a month or two, as they can vary considerably. My DH has had 6 now, and they have varied from 23 to 108 million total count and 20 to 61% motility with forward progression. It's important to have a general view so the best decision is made, that is whether IUI or whartever is best. Is your DH2B doing everything sperm friendly possible such as no hot baths/showers, limited alcohol, loose underwear and excellent diet with or without vitamins/minerals? Good luck and lots of love.  :)

Hi Ruth

Many thanks for getting back to me.  Lots to think about, but at least now I know there is a small chance we could do it naturally!  Need to get all those vitamins and stay healthy.

Thanks

Hi Rowena

Many thanks for your reply.  Its good to hear that I am not the only one who is like this!  We have only just received our results and are awaiting our first appointment with a fertility specialist.

Have to confess a bit nervous actually, I guess you always think this happens to other people and then it happens to you.

How are things going for you?  Any news?

Again many thanks for your words of advice.

Lots of love
