Hi

my wife and I have only recently moved to Oxfordshire where we are about to have our first consultation with the Oxford Fertility Clinic.  We have been trying for about 18 months now, we are both 35, and have been a bit unhappy with the NHS side of things so we are going private.  My wife regulary uses the Italian version of this site, she's Italian and has a friend over there in a similar situation so they use the site to compare notes and so on, and she has learnt loads about infertility problems, treatments and so on but they are all kind of tied into what they do in Italy.

We still haven't really got to grips with the system here and typically for the NHS, information is very hard to come by.  Our main concern is the reputation of the Oxford Fertility clinic.  As we are paying, we want to go to a clinic that we feel we can have confidence in but so far I haven't been able to find any kind of consumer report on this.

That's probably enough for now, our first consultation is tomorrow although we have had all the relevant tests to get us to this stage of course.

I don't know about Oxford i'm afraid but I hope your appointment goes well today, I am sure your gut instincts will tell you if they are good enough to trust.
Good luck to you both

Hi Will

Welcome and we'll all be here to help you as much as we can along your journey. Why don't you check with your doctor as I'm sure they'll be able to give you a list of decent clinics, just remember to have a consultation with them first as I feel it's important for you to trust and get on with the clinic that's treating you as you'll feel more in control along the way and also they'll be on the same page in the book as you!

All the best sweetheart and you will get there, Lots of love clare xxx

My wife and I went through our first cycle at Oxford (assuming that's the one at John Radcliffe ?) some years ago. The outcome was negative and we didn't go back but that was more to do with my wife's feelings than anything the clinic did or didn't do. We gained a general impression that they had not had a good success rate with over 40s and were also a bit worried by the chemical down-regulation approach they used and so we decided to head for London and a clinic that specialised more with 'older' women.

However, with the benefit of much hindsight and further experience I can say that the OFC were actually very efficient, co-ordinated and sympathetic, all things which will keep your stress levels down and help the outcome. They are very professional.
