hello ladies
I'm new to this so bear with me.  i am 29 and ttc for 2 years.  my dh is 39 and we are on 1st course of clomid cd13.  i have had no side effects up to now that i can link to clomid.  i have very irregular periods last one 18th jan 08 and have pcos.  my gyn consultant gave me 50g clomid to start immediately and told to go back in 3 months.  when asked of needed scan/ blood said not until 3 months?!! i keep checking ovulation with ovulation strips but no joy yet.  don't know whether to continue with these or just go with every other day? can anyone offer any advice, good stories etc.  anything much appreciated

I have had a little experience with Clomid although under different circumstances.  I passed all the ovulation tests okay, and was given the Clomid to regulate me during 3 IUIs.  The first month on my Clomid I was over stimulated and ended up with 12 follicles - they will only treat IUI with maximum of 3 per cycle.  That dose for me was 4 tablets per cycle.

When the dr saw how much I responded to this, my dose was put down to 2 tablets per cycle and this worked well.

I too didnt really suffer much side effects.  Little pain around ovulation and periods were a bit heavier but no more than that.

I have friends who have suffered with PCOS and again were given no monitoring during a 6 month period and both times, one had BFP and now has two beautiful children.

I am sure that the lack of monitoring, however neglegant that you might feel it is, is only to regulate your system.  If you can manage this without suffering side effects then that is great for you.  This is the least amount of interference that you can get and I am sure that we all want to manage to do it alone.

I hope that you feel you can continue on the clomid and get the BFP you are looking for, good luck  .

as for your ?? on clomid 1stly i will say OPK's arent always accurate on someone who suffers with PCOS + i personally would just stick to BMS every other day like you have said OPK's are not reccomended to those with PCOS as the hormones in your system give out false readings, i can understand that you want monitoring but dont worry about not being tracked or monitored, i was on clomid for 6 months with no monitoring, they like to let you get on with it plus the fact it costs but hopefully after 3 months you will be tracked IF it hasnt worked by then, try to relax (easy i know ) i will say if

I am sorry youve found yourself on the loopy pills!
I know everyone has a story but my best mate had been TTC a few years when she was given clomid
and concieved on the first month she took them So they DO work!

PCOS, a disorder which although makes getting pregnant difficult does not make it impossible, so remember that firstly
secondly OPK's and PCOs dont mix - Typicall
If you have had all other investigations come back OK for you and your DH, then I would recomend trying a PCOS diet (low Gi)
well woman & well man vits and BMS alt days around your ovulation,
you can also check your CM (cervial mucas) as this indicates changes in your cycle such as ovulation, try a site search for more info

Hi hun,

Welcome to Fertility Friends, this site is fantastic for support, information and friendship.
I would ditch the OPK's as they can give false readings for ppl with pcos. I too have pcos and was givien 2 months worth of clomid with no monitering. I just had bms every other day. I conceived on my first cycle. If 50mg doesnt work they can up it to 100mg.
A low GI diet canwork wonders for symptoms of pcos, might be worth having a look in to

sorry to hear of the PCOS and irregular periods. Although my periods were always quite regular i suffered with PCOS cysts which wasnt pleasent. I want to wish you loads of luck with the clomid.

Hi I have done 10 cycles of clomid but unfortunately didn't work for me but two friends of mine both conceived on clomid, one on their first cycle and the other on her third so stick with it, I like you had no monitoring during my cycle(s) just had day 21 bloods taken on the first few cycles to see that I was ovulating but I would defo go for the every other day and have you tried acupuncture, they say that may help and put your'e DH on zinc and selenium, good for the count!Fingers crosd for you, let me know if it works

I just started chlomid too took my first dose last month and feel fine.
I tried ovulation kits for a year much to the disgust of df's wallet they didnt work for me said i was ovulating all the time. I spoke to the consultant about this and she said it was due to my pocs too. Currently im on 50mg and still no af today so im 8 days late my hospital nurse said to do a test day 42 if still - start chlomid again but 100mg. My biggest hurdle is weight i just cant shake it of unless i go on harsh diets like cambridge which i did last year and lost 4 stone. I just hope the chlomid works for us.

That is very interesting!  I just had a CD21 bloods done and picked up no ovulation and did ovulation kits for the last 2 months and both moves it picked up my LH surge on day 16 very weird!  am not going to try those again.  Am seeing my fertility specialist and have a feeling i am not ovulating so will most probably be put on clomid have this funny feeling but have heard so many things cons and pros of clomid and endo - so will cross the bridge when I get there.

Did you have a regular cycle?  and still no ovulation?

I was having a reg cycle give or take a few days. I didnt have a cycle till i lost weight last summer but since was fine. I have had bloods done but they found i dont ovulate every month hence the chlomid which they have assured me will makeme ovulate month on month.
