Hi
Has anyone had any experience of using metformin to prevent miscarriage?  I've got pcos and have been on clomid for a just over year with three miscarriages during that time. My gynae consultant dismisses metformin as an option but I have read otherwise. Can anyone help? Also are there any awful side effects to taking metformin? :-\

I have read that Metformin can increase your chances of getting pregnant, but I'm not sure about preventing miscarriage, I thought a lot of specialists don't like you taking Metformin when pregnant, not sure of that though.

It might be a good idea for you to consult someone else about it and see what they think, don't give up.
Best wishes.

Hi,

I was also told to come off the metformin as soon as I got pregnant and when I asked why, they said there was no proven benefit to carrying on with them. But I was told by both the clinic and my GP that, had I of had a previous miscarriage, they'd have left me on them for the first 12 weeks which I found a bit contradictory.

hi

i was told my my dr that i if i was to get pg i would be kept on the metformin for first 12 weeks, so think it must differ from clinic to clinic. maybe have a chat with your dr when you see them

good luck

Hello

For me, metformin did not prevent miscarriage. I have been pg 3 times on metformin and all 3 times i have continued taking metformin throughout my pregnancies and all 3 times i have miscarried. " out of those 3 miscarriages were 'missed' miscarriages. I have to say that personally i will not be continuing metformin through my next pregnancy. But everyone is different and maybe it would work for you.

Good luck!
