Hello everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or experiences of going private for PGD? My husband and I had are first meeting at guys for PGD (Huntington’s) yesterday and found the staff we met really insensitive and rushed. Just looking at other options.

Thanks!

we haven't gone private but have used Guys as a part of our treatment for marfans as Sheffield where we live doesn't do it.

we found when we went for egg collection it took a long time for someone to actually talk to us (so i agree felt a little off) however when we went in for egg collection everyone was great and really nice and were very punctual on timings. From my research they are also meant to be one of the best places and most experience for PGD in the country. so i wouldnt necessarily let one bad experience put you off.

Hi April,
We had our only pgd fresh cycle at CRGH in London. It was nhs funded but we did then stay with them for two private frozen transfers as were happy with the clinic.
I think anywhere you go can be a bit hit and miss sometimes depending on what staff you see on the day. Would your guys treatment be nhs funded?x

Hi, I’ve been to Guys for one cycle and Care Nottingham for my two other NHS funded cycles. My genetic counsellor referred me to Guys even though I live less than 15 miles from the Care clinic. She had said that Care didn’t do exclusion testing though I found out later that they did. I was quite annoyed that she couldn’t do her job properly. The wait for treatment with Guys was over a year and the treatment wasnt very flexible. , set in its ways. Anyway I requested that my NHS funding for cycles two and three be transferred to Care and within two/three months they had developed the PGD test and I was cycling again. They also do PGS for free on blastocysts that pass PGD, which has been a godsend for me. Had I stayed with Guys I would have gone through so many unsuccessful FET cycles due to aneuploid embryos. If time is precious, I would recommend Care rather than Guys NHS. Care sorted the transfer of my NHS funding, I don’t recall having to do a lot myself. Hope that helps and best wishes xx

Ps. Guys, last time I checked, use aCGH for PGD. Care use karyomapping for PGD and NGS for PGS, which you get thrown in for free when undergoing PGD at Care.
