We are at the start of the road, the very start in as much as our info eve is next monday. (12th may).

BUT - I want to try and prepare us as much as we can, and Im wondering about the prep course-
what did it involve for everyone?
Did you have to do role play?
Did you have to stand up and talk in front of people?
How many ppl were at the course with you?
Do we get lots of literature or should I take things to make notes?

So many questions, so much going through my head, but it helps to have some kind of idea of how it is possibly going to be.

                Thanks everyone.  ;D

Hi, me again  ;D

Just like you, we were very nervous, not knowing what to expect etc.  On our course there were about 7 couples.  The course was run by 3 sw's who specialised on different aspects.  All the material we needed was provided, even pens/paper. Each day the sw's talked about a certain subject then divided the group up into 2/3 for us to then discuss the matter further, what our thoughts were and then talk about what we discussed to the rest of the group.  Don't worry if you don't like talking in front of strangers, everyone was so friendly and there was always someone willing to do the talking for the group  ;)  We were told who our assisgned sw would be too and form filling started on the course too!  All in all, it was so nice to talk to others who are going through the same thing and who are sharing the same journey as yourselves.  The course was very thought provoking and all the subject matters were in alot more detail with regards to the children etc.

I would say it was an exhausting 3 days, but so worth it.  The day's are long, so definately wear something you are comfortable in.  Lunch was provided for us, so all we had to do was bring ourselves along  :)

As before, good luck on your new and exciting journey  :) :)

Hello again  ;D

So its an all day thing, thats ok, we wasnt sure whether it was or not, but assumed it would be.

Im ok with ppl I know, but not good at getting up and talking in front of ppl, but as you say, there is always someone prepared to do it.

Doesnt sound half as bad as I thought it would be.
Thanks Heather. x :)

hello

we have just finished day 3 of prep....
it is a very intensive course! You will re-join the emotional rollercoaster during prep course!!

We had to buy a book which was by BAAF - our Sw's said they were following the BAAF guidelines on prep courses so would presume most agencies follow this?

I have to say it was really good meeting other couples wanting to be adopters and there are def some poeple who we 'clicked' with on our course who we will stay in touch with.

good luck with your info evening and prep course and of course welcome to FF!!!

Hi Tarango

Glad your prep course went well - We start ours tomorrow for 3 days, tues, Wed and Fri, we are both looking forward to it and also a bit nervous, what sort of things do they expect you to do - Or just listen and learn.  Whats your next step

Take care and Good Luck!!

hello,
it sounds like our course was almost the same as Coops. The SW's chatted about a subject  and sometimes wrote things down on a flip chart, some in the group called out their thoughts/ answers. We were then we were divided up into smaller groups and then came back together to 'feed back' and give our opinions/ decisiions.

Both DH and I really enjoyed our prep course and cannot wait until we start HS

good luck for tomorrow, you don't have to shout out in your group but I'm sure once you have had a cup of tea and get settled you will be shouting out your answers  :)

Hi Hevs - We have just done fostering/adoption in Kent. If you would like to PM me where you are as if we are under the same area I may be able to help.

Hello there,

All just as mentioned, i thought our whole 4 day course was fab, we both didn't want it to end and it made you look at parenting slightly differently.
It was a bit knackering but it was also very interesting and i think it puts you in good stead for the homestudy, also very interesting hearing from Foster careers and Adopters.

You will enjoy the course, just be yourself is the best advice i can give you.
