When is a safe time to have a mammogram while TTC?  I know you can't have them after O when you might be pregnant, but my friend was told by a mammo tech that she shouldn't have a mammogram before O because it would affect the egg!

I'm due for one and I don't want to just skip it, but I don't want to affect a possible pregnancy.  I can't afford to skip a month because time is precious as I am 42.  Can they shield your abdomen somehow or use ultrasound instead?

Have any studies been done on whether it causes birth defects if done in the first 1/2 of the cycle.  I'm very worried.

Thanks for your help.

There are no problems prior to ovulation and for complete peace of mind, ask to have a lead shield put over abdomen as this won´t affect the test but make you feel a whole lot more relaxed.
I am not aware of any study that has been done but have never had to tell a patient to cancel an x-ray because it was in the early part of the cycle.
