Hi

My DH has a regular SA done a year ago - when we saw the nurse about the results they talked about lots of things they'd measured - motility, abnormals etc.

He had to give another sample today and the consultant said this was a different test - a sperm function test (because we've had so many negative PCTs - due to my acidic mucus)

Does anyone know the difference and what they'll be testing this time.

thank you

Hi
Sorry nobody answered your post, I have just seen it while mooching about!

My DH had a couple of the standard SAs and they found low count but ok motility so then they did a more indepth function test for some further info - I think (but not sure) that it tests whether the sperms can swim uphill and get through a membrane (which represents the egg's shell).  My DHs sperms were particularly bad at getting through a membrane so we were told we needed ICSI rather than IUI or IVF.

Take care
Karen

Thanks Karen, that's really sweet of you.

I think that's maybe what it was. We went to see the consultant and all she said was that the tests were all fine, nothing more!

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
