Hi I am really struggling with my DDs behaviour at the moment. She is still pulling hair constantly(I posted about this a while ago) She is currently seeing a speech therapist but that is all. We are on the waiting list for portage. I am at my wits end with what to do and could really do with some advice. Problem is I don't know where to get it! It has got to the point I can't let her go near any other children. Are there any professionals I can ask...or even websites?
Many Thanks

HI Freckles

I'm sorry you're still having problems with DD's behaviour.  Round here we have a behavioural support team which you access via the SN health visitor.  Ask your HV if there is a specialist HV for children with additional needs, and they may be able to point you in the right direction.  However, if it's anything like our area, there is quite a long wait.  We were due to be referred back in Nov because of L's eating problems, but I have a feeling the actual referral was not made until after our last TAC meeting in Feb.  We then got a letter to say that we had been referred and would be contacted when they had space.  We got the phone call in mid April.

Also, does anyone do a behaviour support drop-in clinic?  They do this in our area but it is on a day when I am at work.

I hope you are able to get some support.  It's hard work to deal with behavioural problems on your own.

Thanks for your reply...you are always so helpful on the forum.
I will phone HV on Tuesday....I have never been told about a special needs HV but then again I don;t seem to have been told about much help..I have always feel like I am banging my head against a wall to get any support! I know at school we have Behaviour support teams but not sure about for pre school age. I will do some investigating
Thanks again....what did you decide about your LOs school?

Hi Freckles
i would call on your hv or gp to signpost you in the direction of help
there is early years support around behaviour - pre nursery / school
also ask the hv how long portage will take

Last shot - sure start centre -  can they tap into any resources??

I am a senco at a school but dont have much knowledge of early years but your hv and gp must support you and help you

Hi Freckles/Frances

Have you been able to speak to anyone yet?  I do find our SN HV difficult to get hold of.

To answer your question about schools, no, I'm still dithering!  We now have the draft statement of special needs to approve (not sure what to say about it, but I gather there's an organisation who advise on statements etc) and have now reached the point where we need to choose schools.  We're going to visit the special school again this Friday but whether it will be any clearer by then is anybody's guess.  It's also that DH and I don't agree - he is pro mainstream and I am pro split placement, at least for next year.  So eventually it will be decided by whoever says they are full and haven't got any spare places, then we'll go to the other one!

Thanks for asking - hope all is well with you
