hi ya ladies

Im Rachel's best friend  ;D

As she mentioned i have had underactive thyriod for a few years now and it did effect my fertility aswel having pcos too, the both together are a nightmare

I started off feeling excessively tired which was unusual for me, also my weight balloned from a size 12-14 after having my daughter to a size 18  ::)  i started feeling the cold alot more even in summer, i noticed hair growth a few mths later and then my fertility went down hill from there, i have 3 children previous which were all planned and was very lucky enough to get pregnant within 3weeks of trying  i also used to have regular periods every 28/29days, i must of been highly fertile then so you can imagine when my periods just decided to stop i knew somethin wasnt right, even my younger sister has now been diag with underactive thy an pcos  :(

It was actually my gp who noticed my weight was balloning   he said he wanted to check my thyriod as i was having all the signs, i didnt even know what thyriod problems were  ^idiot^  I was advised which i heard of many many gps/consultants DONT explain is that you can have one test but doesnt mean you havent got thyriod probs ...you have to catch it at the right time so after a few blood tests it 1st came up borderline & from then went underactive, my periods completly stopped etc and then a yr after i was told at my scan i have pcos too, i know many woman who have both thyriod & pcos although not linked seems weird.

I will say though as soon as they find out you have it although you can still get the symptoms your levels should level out, as soon as i sorted my thyriod out and started my clomid mainly to get my periods bk/ovulate things improved and im now 10 WEEKS PREGNANT  :)

The down fall is once your diagnosed your on thyroxine for life, and can go up and down   I started off on 50mg then i went on to 75mg but now im pregnant im under a consultant who specialises in this area and has put me up to 100mg so far as he explained it can vary when pregnant and they need to keep a close eye on me with it, also extra growth scans later on.

If you want any info on it just ask & hope this helps

But the upside is that you get free prescriptions for life. ;D ;D ;D

Mine is pretty stable and has been stable throughout all my pregnancies thankfully, it's after that it tends to go haywire! When I was first diagnosed I was taking 50mg which went up to 75mg a couple of years after. This stayed stable until after J was born when I ended up on 125mg, but again, it stabilised.

My consultant was telling me there are ongoing studies about thyroxine in pregnancy and this is why he automatically ups the dose. So far the research is suggesting that those who don't increase the dose as a matter of course tend to have children with a slightly lower IQ!

Hi

Not sure if this will help but these are the ranges my clinic gave me for serum TSH 0.25 to 5.00 U/L mine was 6.01 and I was advised to go to an endocrinologist for treatment, so going  to see one on Wedneesday and see what he says

Hi
this is really interesting as I'm also due to have my Thyroid tested.
A lot of the symptoms could tie in with me, especially the tiredness, dh thinks he's married to a doormouse ;D
I've always needed at least 8 hrs a day, but some days I can sleep for Britain, and it gets a bit embarrassing when you're nodding off at lunchtime :-[ and early evening :-[

I had mine tested years ago and it came back ok, but my prolactin was slightly raised too, and I think someone told me this could be an indicator of thyroid problems...has anyone else been told this?
I've never been a skinny minny, but my weight has also fluctuated, and I have gone from a size 12 to size 16/18 in the past 6 years, and find it harder to shift now :(
It's strange how you say about cold hands too, as when I was young I was always "hot blooded" and never felt the cold. Lately, I am nesh, and feel the cold a lot more, especially my hands and feet.
I've just spoken to a friend, who advises asking your GP if they will repeat the blood test in a couple of days, as your thyroid fluctuates daily...might be something to consider.
I do wonder if this has been what has stopped me from getting pg over the years, and if nothing else, I will get some closure from it if it comes back as outside the normal range.
Will keep reading for further advice ;)
Love to all

Thought I would just add my story.

I, like a lot of you ladies started putting on weight and frankly falling asleep at work at 3pm every day.  They checked my thyroid function and it was ok, so I was checked for diabetes, glandulour fever, etc etc and everything came back ok... In the end they said I was ok.....I sat in the Docs surgery crying as I was so desperate more from the sheer tiredness.

This carried on for months and then I noticed a lump on my neck, I could not see it just one day on the phone felt it...I was referred straight to a specialist and had a benign goiter. I then had a full thyroidectomy 4 years ago.

I started on 50 mg Thyroxine, then 75mg, then when started this round of ICSI was put up to 100mg....  Even on 75mg, now and again I would go to docs and beg to have my prescription raised as although I was in range I felt unable to function properly.

Now I am pregnant, I have been referred to a specific gynecologist who specialises in encronology and will have blood tests more often and closer support through the pregnancy.

I have already had one blood test and the results are fine on 100mg.

From my experience the levels which are ' normal' can still have you feeling soooo very underpar so good luck ladies, I personally think that this has had a big impact on my fertility ( that and endo).

Good luck to you all...xxxxxxx
