Nightmare - was diagnosed with pcos after blood tests. I was then prescribed Dianette. I then changed Drs when i moved house, my notes were lost and the Dr re-did the bloods and found no evidnce of PCOS.
I thought he was wrong as i had all the symptoms. He refused an ultrasound on the NHS so I went private and paid £240 to have my ovaries scanned. The ultrasound Dr did a quick external scan and declared i had no cysts and therefore had no pcos.
???
I came off Dianette after this and this happened to coincide with me and my husband ttc.
7 months later and only 2 af's later i contacted a hormone specialist and shelled out another £200 to find out what was wrong me. The consultant i found was brilliant. She did an internal ultrasound and found that both my ovaries were covered in cysts. I'm now on metformin and will start clomid if no ovulation in 2 cylces.
What scares me is "what if i had accepted the second Dr's opion?" I could still be ttc 2/3 years later!
The message here is "listen to yourself" you know if something is wrong with your body!
Thanks - I needed to off load all of that! :)

Thanks for your message hun and welcome to the boards.  ^hugme^

Very true what you say, we all know our bodies - I've gone through a succession of crap GP's, my last GP  did referred me for a vaginal probe but wouldn't do bloods or refer me to a gynecologist although the scan came back as REFER THIS WOMEN NOW!  Now finally after letters of complaint to the PCT, etc I may just have found a half decent GP - time will tell though.

But i agree with Suze in that we should all listen to our bodies and to add..................if you are unhappy with your GP - WRITE TO YOUR PCT THEY WILL MOVE YOU.

Suze, feel free to join in the PCOS chit chat hun x

Suze what a nightmare you had to go through  :( As Nikki said we all know the best what's happening in our bodies.

I had a tummy scan and 2 women that did it were very nice and that was NHS  :) I asked her if she will be able to see my ovaries and she said that that depends how full my bladder is. Anyway my bladder was very full and she said that the ovaries are very visible and she could even see the cysts  :)

I agree some GP's are rubbish  I had some unpleasant situations in the past but after i moved and changed my GP I can't complain. He is the first ever Gp to ask me if I want to get pregnant  :)Of course I might change my mind about as I am going to see him on monday and will ask him for Metformin :) as Clomid isn't working for me  :( Just hope he will say yes  :-\

You have done the right thing Suze just a shame that it was out of your own pocket. I would go back to that private doc and accuse him of giving you the wrong opinion and get your money back if possible  ;)

That's NHS for us  :(

Just wanted to say that your pcos may not have shown up on some scans.. i had pcos disgnosed after a few months on injections for my iui and thats when it showed, when i went back to not having the jabs it disappeared on scans, but my laparoscopy showed it big time. i think it depends in your cycle when the scan you.

Hi,

I had to nag my gP to send me for an Ultrasound scan as he has said in the past that I would have to wait for the fertility clinic to do that when I had my appt through. I was referred in feb and thought it could well take a few months to get the first appt so asked him again I really want a scan to see what is going on. I went to get the scan done, which was at a different hospital to where the fertlilty clinic is and I had just got my appt through for the fertlilty clinic (which really suprised me as thought i would be waiting ages) my appt was going to be 2 days after the scan, so I asked them if they could send the results to the fertlity clinic, the 2 ladies doing the scan then got quite funny and said why have you come here for the scan etc. I said I dont know just gone where the letter told me to go! They did not tell me anything just did an external and internal and said would send the results on. I went for my fertilty appt and saw one of the fertilty nurses for the initial appt to get both our backgrounds etc and turns out they want to scan me aswell as they obviously know what they are wanting to look at. Fine by me as it was not uncomfortable or anything.

I had debated prior to all this whether to fork out the £140 for a private consultion + another couple of hundred to get the scan done, I am pleased I did not as that would have been a waste of money see ing thought these appts came round quickly. I think as a last resort private clinics will have to be but I do think they really do sting you for a huge amount of money and like others you may not even get the right diagnosis. I f I was you I would write to the clinic and say you are not happy etc at how the situation was dealt with and ask for a refund. Even if the were to refund half it is still worth asking!

Good luck to everyone and we are all here for each other. I have found it helps to focus on something like Christmas to lok forward to and its another thing to think of so your mind is not constantly thinking about ttc.

^babydust^ to everyone

Lou
