Hi ladies

Well today was my first fertility specialist appointment which i was actually quite nervous for!  We went through a questionnaire etc where you tell them the whole history etc etc then I went for a scan and guess what they found another endometrioma!!!!! I have just had my laproscopy in March to remove endo and cysts and yes they have found a 4cm endometrioma! how can that be so quickly after the op?? Anyways I was given two options 1 to carry on ttc naturally and 2 to start Zoladex for 3 months then start IVF! as she didnt think removing the endometrioma would be a good idea as I have just had surgery and having to have more surgery they would remove more ovary tissue which is not good.  So have decided to try Zoladex and then start IVF as waiting around is not going to do much ( I have severe endo)  so am actually quite upset about the endometrioma!!! So basically can anyone give me advice about zoladex and has anyone had IVF with a endometrioma as I believe that if they were a specific size (smaller than 5cm) you can still have IVF?  Any advice would be appreciated - Sonia

Hiya Sonia

I have just replied to your PM

but just wanted to add that i agree with your fertility specialist about further surgery.  My specialist was in the same opinion altho i only had one ovary i had 2 cysts in one ovary and had 6 months zoladex prior to starting the ivf, when i started the ivf i still had the cysts altho a lot smaller than they were prior to the zoladex

If theres anything i can help with feel free to ask, there are a couple of us who have had zoladex/prostap type meds (GNRH) prior to tx and have got BFP

there was some research done to suggest that ladies with endo who had GNRH drugs had a higher success rate with ivf

Wishing you lots of luck with getting your BFP

Hi Sonia,

I had Zoladex last year for a cyst on my ovaries and it worked a treat, it also made endo a lot better afterwards although it has come back since my IVF in Feb. It's good if you can time your IVF with your zoladex. My Gynea discharged me before we started IVF so I wasn't on Zoladex when we started IVF. I sometime wonder if I had been if our's would have been more successfull!!

I hope it works for you and you get your BFP!!!!

Hi Rachel

Thank you for your reply - I am just gutted that I already have a cyst after my lap 3 months ago!!! anyways the doctor told me that it will not shrink my cyst it will just keep my endo at bay and shrink it a bit but dont think the cyst will shrink - How long were you on Zoladex for if you dont mind me asking?  and also what side effects did you have?  I am worried about them making you extremely teary and moody?  Why did they put you on Zoladex just to control your endo?
Sorry if all the questions Im just trying to find out as much as I can.  So are you going to be having your next IVF any time soon?

Hi

I had a cyst on my left Ovary which they wanted to get rid of. I was only meant to be on it for three months and then go for a review but they wrote to me to tell me my gynea was on holiday when I had my follow up appointment and the next available one was so far in advance I ended up staying on it for 6 months!!! The first month of Zolly was pretty bad, I had hot flushes and mood swings much like menopause but after the first few weeks it was fine I never had any side effects at all other than the no periods, but I'm sure other women would tell you differently, it affects people in so many different ways!!!

The only thing I would request is a local before they do it. the needle is horrible and my GP gave me a local first because with it being injected in your stomach it really hurts without it!!!  :-\
