Hi,

I am sure everyone's answer will be different and that there is no right answer.

I have never really been a real heavy smoker but I had my last cig a few days after starting to downregg during each of my cycles.  I am now 6 weeks pg with my fingers and toes crossed.

Good luck to you!  ^reiki^ and well done for quitting smoking.

Hi Julie

I was rubbish - I meant to stop but was so stressed out that I found myself smoking up until the day before the donors eggs were collected.  If I had used my own eggs I would have stopped when I started Stimms.  I found it so hard to stop before then as I really didn't feel I would actually be going ahead.  Once I believed in my tx it was easy.

I did cut down a LOT tho - I went from 20+ a day to less than 5 once I started my drugs.

As soon as I had embryos in the lab I rarely thought about smoking again as I did it for them :)  Once I had embies on board I could not have imagined smoking as I know it reduces the chances of success and I felt it simply was not worth it !

I am so glad I did and have been smoke free now for 2 years and 3 months ^clapping^ :)

Good luck - its not easy but its the best thing for your future embies :)  Its never too late to give up to give them the best start :)

Loads of luck

Hi Julie..its never too late honey...I cut down when I started downregging but only managed to stop completely the day before egg transfer..It was the thought of harming my babies to be that stopped me from lighting up...then a miracle happened and I got my BFP and im 6 weeks pregnant. Can't say for definate if stopping smoking helped but my previous treatments which resulted in BFNs I had continued to smoke a few a day..

Good luck honey..I really hope you get your miracle xxxx

Hi Julie

The most important thing is that you have stopped and thats already fantastic  ^clapping^ ^clapping^ ^clapping^ ^clapping^ ^clapping^

I can tell you my experience...2 IUIs and I continued to smoke. 1st IVF and I had my last cigarette just after ET. I felt so guilty and had the 'click' that said I didn't want to  continue TTC and smoke.....so had my last ciggie. My 1st IVF I was a poor responder (3 eggs) with poor quality 1 embie transfer.
2nd IVF I had stopped smoking since 5 months and produced 8 eggs with 2  good quality embie transfer.
Unfortunately still BFN but I do believe the fact that I had quit smoking helped a lot. I have to say I was also on stronger meds for 2nd IVF so it wasn't just the no smoking  that contributed to the improved response, but at least I felt I did my part to help also.
DH stopped same time as me and even though he doesn't have a problem with sperm count there was a significant rise in the number of his sperm for the last IVF. Was great for him as he also felt he was doing something active towards ttc.

Wishing you all the best with your journey and again well done on stopping.

Hi Julie,

Congratulations on giving up smoking: it's the hardest thing to do!!!  I just wanted to say that every hour you don't smoke is a benefit to you and your body.  I did give up about 5 months ago now(after smoking 20 a day for nearly 20 years!!) and I'm sure it helped me get my BFP, so here's wishing you the same, take care.

Julie,

I have been TTC for 2 years and have been on and off the evil weed - 2 weeks heavy smoking, 2 weeks none etc.  Felt really bad as its really no good for your health and isn't helpful if your TTC.  So why was I doinbg it ?  The evil trickster wraps you around his fingers and its "i'll stop tomorrow"  .... Stopped smoking full stop about 2 1/2 months ago just got fed up with the struggle and as i'm not an ignorant smoker always felt very low self esteem when I was puffing away.  Also started to give me lines arouind my mouth !! Started treatement 4 weeks ago, doing fine.

Its never to late.

I just wanted to add that I smoked for 14yrs with one break in between and then only stopped when I started stimming as just couldnt before then due to how stressed I was but we went onto be pg with twins and they are here now as you can see from my picture

The fact that you have stopped is the main thing
