Hello

Can anyone tell me when the end of the 1st trimester is and the subsequent reduced risk of m/c?

Most things I have read say 12 weeks, but if you divide the 40 weeks of pregnancy into 3 then you get 13.3 weeks?

If you have a scan at 11 weeks and all is fine then can you assume that things are ok and that you are pretty much at the end of the 2st trimester?

Many thanks for any help as I am very confused!

It's all very confusing isn't it!

I think Tri 2 starts at the end of week 13 (although I might be wrong).  After 12 weeks, the risk of m/c does reduce significantly.

I've probably got that totally wrong, but I'm sure somebody will put me right!!

I'm afraid not. Unfortunately I speak from experience - I had two scan where I had seen a strong heatbeat but lost a baby at 12 weeks and two days.

The risk does significantly reduce after 12/13 weeks but is not zero.

Try not to worry though (easier said than done).
