Hi Otissi,

I cant answer your question as  Iam currently taking protein powder myself to help with egg growth while doing stims. I too would like to hear from anyone that has continue to take the protein shakes while on the 2ww.

Iam can only add that Iam taking Whey Protein Matrix (3 stage time release pure whey protein) twice per day and it has a total of 48g of protein per day I think we need around 60 for egg building and pregnancy (not sure where I heard that) but still I am having a bit more natural protein through my diet.

I would like to know if it helped you during stimulation or if it didnt make much of a difference.

Good luck on the 2ww I hope to hear your good news. Stay  ^reiki^

Hi there

Ideally you want around 60g pf protein a day although getting this from natural food sources rather than protein shakes is preferable. I know lots of ladies drink protein shakes / whey powder during treatment but many of these contain soya.....according to Zita West in her book Fertility and Conception, she advsies against soya as it has mild contraceptive properties. I also avoid soya as much as possible because it aggravates my endometriosis (because of the plant oestrogens), although lots of foods do seem to contain a certain amount of it anyway so not always feasible to completely remove from diet. Whilst I never took protein shakes/whey powder, I still kept up my protein intake throughout the 2ww.

A few years ago I did put together some tips for during treatment (inc 2ww) for diet etc including some info on drinking milk, food sources rich in protein etc which you may (or may not !) find useful...it's now included in a pinned post on ICSI board so here's the link...

Through treatment I have also taken wheatgrass, spirulina and chlorella supplements which are high in protein as well as lots of other beneficial nutrients.

You may also find some useful information on the Prenatal Care and Complementary Therapies boards....

http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=20.0

http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=14.0

...and if you use the search tool you'll find many threads/posts discussing whey protein powder and shakes so maybe have a read of those and see other ladies opinions.

Good luck ^reiki^

Hi Natasha,
Thx for all the info, I will def have a look through the boards suggested.
I have stopped the protein powder and upping my natural intake.

Hi Havana, I am not sure if the additional protein helped during stims as my result (no. of eggies)was similar to my previous cycle although the quality of embryo transfered was higher this time so fingers and toes crossed maybe  ^pray^ . I def did feel better for having it though, like i was giving it my best shot, if that makes sense?!
Good luck to all Oxx

Hi

Thanks Natasha, luckly my whey protein is Soya free. Iam also adding beans and cheese and other proteins to my everyday diet so it all adds up. I searched the  boards at your suggestion and Yes lots of ladies are drinking protein shakes. Thanks a lot for your info.

Otissi- thanks for your response too. I had my stimm scan today and i looks like Iam ready for EC the nurse was able to measure 4 large folicules in one side and 3 large ones in the other. Now have to wait for until after EC for egg quality and quantity etc. I will really miss drinking my shakes if its not needed on the 2ww  :(  I will investigate a bit more about that.

Havana - Best of luck for ec, sounds like you have a nice crop of follies growing so fingers crossed for some nice healthy eggies. I hope the extra protein has done the trick.
I am really missing the protein powder just because it tastes soo lush! But just personal choice I have stopped now officially pupo!! And am just trying to eat as much as I can naturally.
Again all the best for ec and keep us posted how u go on

Hi Otissi

Sorry i didnt reply inmediatly was having some mild HSOS until 3dp EC but all is good now.

They got 14 eggs and 12 were good enough for ICSI of those 8 fertilised and embriologist said were really good embies so they cultured them for 4 days and I am now pupo with a couple of Morula  ;)  were Iam hoping they have progresed to more than that by now.

So I decided to keep taking the protein powder but more diluted and once every other day so as to not over do it just in case.

How are things going for you? I hope you get your BFP and  a healthy one too. ^hugme^
