Bike Seat vs Trailer?

Hi

I'm considering buying a trailer for when I go back to work. It's a 10 minute cycle to nursery and then I can cycle on to work in 20mins and get some exercise, but I'm also considering a bike seat.

I'm leaning towards a trailer as it's easier to take a bag as well and I generally don't like weight on my bike. I'll stick to quiet roads, cycle paths and pavements anyway.

Any experiences from people out there?

Thanks!

Have you thought about going to a bike hire shop & hiring a bike with a toddler seat & a trailer & seeing what you feel most comfortable riding with your LO on board? I know you already have a bike but a bike hire shop I recently spoke to wouldn't hire out the trailer/seat without the bike. For me the decision would depend on how easy it would be to navigate your route with a trailer.

I do plan to do that but I'm only going to get a limited try in a few hours.

My route to nursery doesn't have cycle path and a couple of the roads are fairly busy but that would worry me with both a seat and a trailer. I was thinking that the worse case scenario is that I have to walk with the bike for the 15 minute walk and then cycle on to work, I can't think how I could do that with a normal pushchair (maybe a sling though)

Apart from that route though, there are cycle paths near us to parks and a nice route along the canal to the city centre or to a nature reserve so I see it as a good way to get exercise and entertain the lad!

Would you prefer a trailer then?

Thanks

I have a seat, but have contemplated a trailer, I trust myself with one but not sure I trust all of those around me not to run me and the children over!!  I have been knocked off my bike with my DS on the back - at the time of buying the seat on the bike I thought it was a lot of money - now I know what I paid for - he had no injuries at all and I was black and blue with a seriously bent back wheel!
