I am going on maternity leave 5th jan for one year. I have been with my company 13 years. I work in high pressured sales role traveling a lot. I have worked from home for last 7 years perfectly well, no issues at all. I am respected, or so I thought, by the company and my colleagues.
My boss just told me that he will take back my company laptop and company mobile phone whilst I am on maternity leave.
I am really annoyed about this. I had no idea he would request to do this. I feel quite like my rights are being violated here....I am still an employee and taking benefits provided by company for official maternity leave. It's not like I am going to use my phone or laptop for much at all....and I have all my business contacts in my mobile phone and laptop. Taking all this away from me for one year is highly irritating, especially as I probably don't get same laptop and phone back after. I have tonnes of work contacts in phone, I will have to save them all off. If I need to access company hr policies or contact people internally whilst I am on maternity leave all phone numbers in laptop and address book won't then be accessible. I am feeling really rejected from the company by them doing this to me. It shouldn't be a trust issue after 13 years there. I don't really know what the issue is yet. I have to talk to hr about this.
Has anyone else had their laptop and mobile or company owned possessions taken away from them whilst on maternity leave? Is this really normal behaviour? I am still an employee!!
Anyone got any advice at all on this?
Thank you!
